Even if you’re not much of a royal-watcher, a rather puzzling pastime for some Americans and a royal snooze as far as we’re concerned, the woman has reigned in the U.K. during a significant swath of recent history. I am no fan of monarchy but whatever one may think of the idea of royalty in general or the British monarchy in particular, this queen, her consort and especially her parents are deserving of the utmost respect for the exemplary way they have conducted their lives and duties. The Windsor motto: I serve. And her generation certainly has.
