Obama to Tribal Nations: ‘You Will Not Be Forgotten’

President Obama

President Obama told a gathering of tribal leaders at a rare Interior Department summit that he intended to devote more time and attention to the concerns of American Indians. In closing, he also addressed the Thursday shooting at Fort Hood.

AP reports: “Whether that promise results in action over the next few years will be the test. In a question-and-answer session, audience members pressed Obama for government help on a litany of matters, from more respect for sovereignty rights to environmental cleanup to concerns about offshore drilling.”

Just because o promised ‘loyalty’ to the corporate world during his campaign(and is the reason I did not vote for him or mccain) should be a warning to the Native Indians to watch their backs and not just because I smell another ‘win/win’ situation sneaking out of corporate america, but maybe more for keeping what they were ‘allowed’ to have after their submission.

I’m starting a new tribe.  The Wangdangs.  Who wants to join?  We’ll open a casino and just kick back while the Great Tan Father throws money at us.

Gerard -

You could just as easily say all the same of Gays and Lesbians.

During the campaign Obama was only too happy to curry their support and their donations.

So why wasn’t he in Maine sometime…anytime…in the past few months actually DOING something to return the favor while Maine voters were putting people’s rights to a vote as callously as slave traders used to put black people on the auction block?  Where was Obama?

Mere “awareness” of problems is a pretty low standard to be set for American presidents, particularly a black American who ought to be keenly aware of how America is diminished when ANY American is forced, by a majority, to accept that they are less, by virtue only of their birth, than any other American.  Shit, even Bush was “aware” that there was some rain or heavy fog or something down in New Orleans.

Say…when is the C-Span coverage of the negotiations with Big Pharma going to be on TV, anyway?

Come on, you people. Admit it.  We have a President who is aware of the horrendous problems of Native Americans, the deplorable history of treaties broken and promises neglected for a couple hundred years, and who dares to bring up the subject publicly in the first few months of his office. He’s dealing with a government and an electorate that has successfully and happily avoided facing these problems for longer than any of us have been alive. Thousands have died as a result and the rest have been imprisoned by discrimination, lack of public respect, education and employment and disastrous lack of medical care.  Whose fault is that?  Not Obama’s.  Help out.  Write a letter of approval and willingness to cooperate in helpful changes, addressing the Bureau of Indian Affairs in D.C., pronto.  Then talk.

Well you know what the Obama loyalists would say: Baron, put a sock on it.

‘You will not be forgotten, unless of course you’re a homosexual”

What a disappointment this man has turned out to be.  Just another wind sock.

More vague, empty rhetoric, with no actual commitments.
