This just in from President Obama: Being rude is the easiest way to get airtime. Well, at least that’s his take on the lows to which public discourse has sunk of late, especially concerning the keenly contentious issue that is health care reform. Obama fields questions about all this and more (ahem, Afghanistan) in these clips from Sunday’s episode of “Meet the Press.”  —KA

What a relief it is to have a president who can express himself in a nonconfrontational way, and discuss some of the nuances of complicated problems in an interview on TV without pointing his fingers and blaming others!

Part 1: He’s a kinder, gentler fascist. He wants us to have support just as long as the Health corps(e) get their pound of flesh in the bargain. Holds up the idea that a typical Democrat is just nicer about stabbing you in the back than your typical Republican.

He doesn’t want to say anything about the blatant and subtle racist based attacks. But to deny it I think is wrong. He must know it is there but he should just acknowledge it then move on.

Part 2: Yes he is the president and he gets ready access in most venues. Though Fox still wants to interview him, again. Afghanistan? How definite will he be? McCrystal‘s assessment will it change his way of working there?

Then we need to start scaling back our overblown military right now. We can save billions a month doing so. We could have a much better country if we did. Then I could trust you in what you say. So far you support the imperial ambitions of our moneyed elites in the background. Corporate evangelicals who want to use the sword and commercial to remake the world safe for their God’s return. (In their mythos he won’t come back otherwise!)

Kid gloves interview. Why doesn’t anyone ever seem to mention the poor? Its always about the middle class, never about the impoverished.  I wish the interviewer would have asked a bit more about the mandate.  Obama said it was like car insurance mandates, except one can choose not to have a car and not pay car insurance.  I don’t like the idea of being forced to buy anything just for having a body, especially crappy insurance with lots of co-pays and high deductibles.  I guess I could choose not to have permanent residence and then not pay, we know the swelling numbers of homeless won’t be covered. I stand firm that a single payer plan is what we need.  I have a feeling the healthcare problem is only going to get worse from this legislation.

I am hopeful that Obama seems hesitant about Afghanistan.  The smartest move he could make is to start looking for ways to get out of there.

Open note to the Mulatto-in-chief; nine months is long
enough to be nonthreatening to white people.  To allow
a Strom Thurmond protege to insult black America in
the chamber of Congress goes too far.  It is NOT jews,
mexicans or other cheap scabs from Central/South
America being attacked verbally/physically(despite
their screeches to the contrary); it is black American
citizens catching hell from the redneck nation because
the ruling class is telling them that we are the cause
for their woes.  Like I sent their son/daughter to
Iraq/Afghanistan-Pakistan, or caused the loss of their
retirement income, or flooded their communities with
illegal workers to compete for the remaining jobs that
haven’t been shipped to China, etc.
