Obama Heckled During Speech

Email this item Email    Print this item Print    Share this item... Share

Posted on Sep 9, 2009

Rep. Joe Wilson, Republican of South Carolina, is a real class act. To prove it, he heckled the president Wednesday, shouting “You lie!” after Obama promised that his plan would not cover illegal immigrants.

AP reports that Michelle Obama shook her head at the riffraff.

You can do the same, if you watch the clip below. Also, check out “dagger eyes” Pelosi after the heckle goes down. There’s a woman with cat herding experience.  —PS

Update from AP via Yahoo: Wilson apologized for the outburst afterward, saying: “While I disagree with the president’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility.”

Knowing that MarthaA wouldnt cough up the reference, i found an online reference for her Mein Kampf quotes.

I went to quite a lot of trouble to scan through Hitler’s whole damn book. I have spent hours on this. Reading stupid Hitler’s stupid Mien Kampf for stupid MarthaA.

My guess was quite correct, it was Hitler who was holding meetings of what he called “decent people” and “innocents”. That is what he called his Nazi rallies.

http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks02/0200601.txt

Volume two, chapter seven is the part to go to. Its about 3/4 of the way down the long page. Scroll down several paragraphs. Or read the whole chapter.

Oh MarthaA. You were so wrong about the ‘interrupters and disturbers’ of Hitler’s meetings! You should be ashamed. If only the ‘interupters’ and ‘disturber’s stood firm then Hitler wouldnt have come to power, then there wouldnt have been WWII, and no Holocaust.

I would be proud to be a ‘disturber’ who tried to break up a Nazi meeting. But not MarthaA, who has heaped abuse on me about this for a month now. A whole month of crap from MarthaA.

How long MarthaA, will you decieve people? Anyone can see that in Hitler’s twisted Mien Kampf world the ‘innocents’ are not innocent at all… they are evil NAZIS.

I know what is at stake MarthaA. You have more in common with the evil Nazis than anyone I know. You are an evil person and I will oppose you at every turn.

MarthaA says: Either you are a fool or you think others are, but the one thing Hitler knew was that he wasn’t innocent.

MarthaA, you do know that Mein Kampf was written by Hitler to make himself look good? You seem to be saying that Hitler really was good.

I keep trying to explain to you that Hitler is not good. You keep quoting him as if you can trust him to publicly admit that those who oppose him are innocent. If you want to fall for Hitler’s lies that is your problem.

In Mein Kampf Hitler is publically proclaiming himself to be innocent. Only a fool could be stupid enough to buy into it and agree with him! That fool is you, marthaA.

Worse though would be the very special fool who argues with someone who tried in a nice way at first to show her she was getting it wrong. That special fool is you, MarthaA. I was nice to you for awhile but that was a big mistake.

Why dont you take that Hitler quote that we are arguing about and enlarge upon it by posting the paragraphs before and after?

If you are right it would win the argument for you.

Go on MarthaA. Look it up. Post it here.

You never did that. You never will. I think because you know I am right.

Give me the chapter. I will do it for you.

There is no disapproval at all, other than from a few foolish lumpen-proletariat chickens being led by the Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMIST REPUBLICAN foxes; Dick Armey and his Freedom Works Right-Wing organizations, as if Right-Wing EXTREMISTS care anything about the 70% MAJORITY COMMON POPULATION.  You should read the following links:

And, even this is incorrect, as ABC said there were only 10,000 people showed up for Dick Armey’s Right-Wing Freedom Works Project. The picture is an old picture to make it appear there were lots of people, because “confidence without merit” is the Republican slogan.

In case you missed it because of all the heckling from disrespectful Republicans here is the speech again:

OzarkMichael said:  “Hitler is the one holding the meeting. He thinks of himself and his fascists as “the innocent”. MarthaA answer:  We’ve been here before.  These are political FRAMES.  You are wrong.  Hitler names no one,  as Hitler wrote these political frames in his book while he was in prison for his people to use when he got out of prison to be able to take over the government of the Weimar Republic, which they did.  Hitler was not a fool.  Either you are a fool or you think others are, but the one thing Hitler knew was that he wasn’t innocent.  Hitler knew what he was doing and why.

Why do you defend Hitler?  Is it because you want to use Hitler’s frames and declare yourself to be innocent?  Please explain, inquiring minds want to know.

MarthaA, someone needs to correct you since you are making a fool out of yourself.

this quote that you give to chide peiople who interrupt meetings:

Adolph Hitler said in “Mein Kampf”:  “If through some sort of threats it becomes known to the authorities that there is danger of a meeting being broken up, they do not arrest the threateners, but forbid the others, the innocent, to hold the meeting, and what is more, the run-of-mill police mind is mighty proud of such wisdom.  They call this a ‘precautionary measure for the prevention of an illegal act.’  Thus, the determined gangster is always in a position to make political activity and efforts impossible for decent people.  In the name of Law and Order, the State Authority gives it to the gangster and requests the others please not to provoke him.”

The problem with your quote is that Hitler is the one holding the meeting. He thinks of himself and his fascists as “the innocent”. The people who interrupt and disturb fascist meetings are, to Hitler, the gangsters. Hitler would never call fascists bad names, would he? he would never admit that the protestors have reason to struggle against him, would he?

You are making a fool out of yourself MarthaA, if you think this quote shows that interuptors are fascists. You are getting the people in Hitlers book completely backwards. When you use this quote, you stupidly turn Obama into Hitler and you turn Joe Wilson into a hero for disturbing his meeting. Which would be funny if it wasnt a serious matter. So please stop. use another quote instead of this one.

A slight correction, the Mayan Calendar ends on December 21,2012, the winter solstice. This is the conclusion of twenty six thousand year cycle, and despite Hollywood and the desert God mind grid, the Mayans never said it was the end of anything, but a change in the astronomical clock, known as “the long count”.
A civilization that observed very subtle changes in the cosmos over very long periods, were, as far as archaeologists know, the most precise timekeepers in the history of the human world.

Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMISTS like Rep. Joe Wilson are following Hitler’s Playbook of Political Frames:

Adolph Hitler said in “Mein Kampf”:  ““At that time I (Adolph Hitler) adopted the standpoint:  It makes no difference whatever, whether they laugh at us or revile us, whether they represent us as clowns or criminals; the main thing is that they mention us, that they concern themselves with us again and again, and that we gradually in the eyes of the workers themselves appear to be the only power that anyone reckons with at the moment.  What we really are and what we really want, we will show the wolves of the Jewish press when the time comes.”

Adolph Hitler said in “Mein Kampf”:  “One can never count on protection on the part of the authorities; on the contrary, experience shows that it always and exclusively benefits the disturbers.  For the sole actual result of intervention by the authorities —- that is, the police —- was at best to dissolve, in other words, to close the meeting.  And that was the sole aim and purpose of the hostile disturbers.”

In the name of Law and Order, the State Authority gives it to the gangster and requests the others please not to provoke him.”

our version of fascism, which will, in many ways, be
far more subtle than the classic/historic form and
unique to the U.S. That will make it no less vile. If

out of options. All of that said; I’m doing my best

dihey…i think ouroborus’ post of 9/10 8:23pm to u is spot on.  if i understand correctly, u are a netherland’s resident and not a USAn.  living in the usa presently is long way from living under nazi terror.  but as a 61 yr. old, i can’t remember a time when i felt more ill at ease about my country’s future than i do now.

a couple weeks ago u pointed out in a post that our governmental system has a MAJOR flaw…the structure of the senate gives disproportionate power to small states.  this violates the democratic principle of 1 man, 1 vote (a senate voter in wyoming—600,00 population—has 30 times more power than a california senate voter—18,000,000 population!!)  this all comes to play in the health care debate.  the house of representatives, more in line with one man/one vote, could possibly pass a single payer or at least a stronger “public option” bill, but it would be checkmated by small state repub and blue dog senators.

when u mentioned this design flaw in democratic governance, u were met with pretty much deafening silence from the “progressives” here at TD.  it’s like USAns don’t think an 18th century design can be improved.

many TD’ers have voiced support for a progressive third party.  but face it, a lotta people in this country are of the libertarian bent.  it seems like a push to open up a MULTI-party system would be the way to go. progressives, “real” liberal dems and liberterians could then possibly form a working majority on usa imperialism, bank bailouts, the drug war, etc.

dihey, i guess i got on a bit of a side rant there..just saying that ouroborus’ observation, about times in the USA being more dangerous than u seem to allow for, is on the mark.

I believe the Health Care Program is going to end up providing coverage to all 300 million Americans instead of the 50 million for which is being created, and it’ll end up having an absolutely unsustainable cost. As soon as companies realized that the government’s health care coverage is cheaper, they will stop providing health insurance and encouraging their employees to enroll in the government program instead. Those 900 billion that Obama says it’d cost to provide health care coverage to 50 million people will jump to 5400 billion within a 10 year period to cover 300 million people, this might be the end of America as we know it.

“People believe these false statements because they are repetitively being asserted by the republican party. It is astonishing.”

It is astonishing, but it isn’t new. It’s an extension of conservative behavior decades old now. It extends from Gingrich’s sarcastic usurpation of American history when he called for a “revolution” that was waged on sofas around the country (much to his delight), except it did stir and embolden the militia movement.

Their boldness grew through the Clinton era, actually accusing the President personally of murder, and it wasn’t stopped then. Now these people are at the boiling point, furious and seeing nothing but the self-declared blessings of God in front of them.

Their logic is simple: they prove their patriotism through malicious behavior toward liberals. Extreme misbehavior is justified by the extremeness of the threat—you. And since they decide how dangerous you are, they are completely, morally uninhibited. Even their clergy approve their sinfulness, either explicitly or through passivity.

This course cannot end well, especially with a liberal community which can’t distinguish between the right to free speech and the threat to free speech. A lot of people have already died. Start counting with Dr. George Tiller, and don’t stop til you get to Iran. Conservatives have fully understood for decades that they’ll only accomplish their goals if they eliminate or suppress you.

Republicans—yes, anything that even looks like an “R”—no longer deserve any respect at any time in any venue by anyone who considers himself or herself an American citizen. Act accordingly.

You liberals and so-called independents, who think you’re being intellectual by whining about Obama not doing “enough”, are contributors to the conservative mayhem. You too are under attack, and I don’t mean intellectually.

Wake up! Unless you feel like taking on one of these Bluto’s in hand-to-hand, you’d better do the next best thing, and realize you need to move legislation. Fast. And lots of it. It doesn’t matter how comprehensive or far-reaching or brilliant or this or that it is. It doesn’t matter if it’s got cap-and-trade or crap-for-brains. Five thousand little steps will take you the same mile as one big step. The same is true for progress.

Do a little, do a lot, but do something, and do it fast. Then do twice as much next year.

Listen to your President for a change.

Hitleresque Verbal Disrespectful Assault By Right-Winger Joe Wilson

South Carolina Republican Representative Joe Wilson should receive legislative punishment, as disrespectful heckling assault is not representation in any way and shows low character. An apology because one has been told to apologize is worthless and an apology to the President of the United States can not be accepted by a secretary.

The Right-Wing have been allowed to be arrogant and disrespectfully assault verbally members of the Democratic Party at democratic meetings to the point that mindless Representative Joe Wilson didn’t see any difference in a disrespectful assault on the President of the United States, which should put him in jail without bail for at least 30 days, to think about his abhorrent behavior. Imagine what would have happened to someone who had acted like that on the left when Bush was in the White House, the same needs to happen to this reprobate.

Rush Limbaugh is as vulgar and sinister as anyone critical of Obama.  His pathetic support of “the Heckler ” aka Joe Wilson, was nauseating to hear today on his radio platform.  It only makes one wonder what the intellectual level of the “Right” is. It is a hysterical notion yet Limbaugh seems to think of himself as the heir- apparent of William F. Buckley.

I would not be surprised if Limbaugh wears white sheets at night and burns crosses somewhere in the backward regions of the country.  He unmistakably despises Obama and the intensity with which he undermines the man i.e. (unrelenting ad hominem attacks) as well as the complete disregard for Obama’s keen intellect only emphasizes what an inferior being Limbaugh is.

Ouroborus

The classic fascist movements and governments of Italy, Spain, and Germany needed scapegoats/enemies to intimidate the populace and maintain themselves in power. They maimed and murdered these innocent scapegoats/enemies in the streets of Rome, Berlin, and Madrid as well as in SS cellars and concentration camps immediately after they came to power. If you had lived in Germany, say, in April of 1933, only a few months after Herr Hitler had become the German Chancellor in January of that year, and had posted on a website, assuming that the internet had existed then, your view that Hitler was a vile traitor fascist you would have been in one of the already existing concentration camps within a few days, possibly the one in the Moors or else in Sachsenhausen.
A sophisticated analysis of our current form of governance is not served by a historical falsification of naming it “fascist”. It may be entrenched corporatist but fascist it is not.
P.S. As a young person (I am 82 now) I lived under fascism. My fears, if any, of today are mild ripples compared to my real daily fears then. Get real man!

How is it that the republican party has successfully stated false innuendo, false
light (defamation), and outright lies as fact.  Fact !  Very little admonishment, no
claims for redress.  The lies simply continue and accelerate because they are not
overtly disputed.  No wonder so many americans think that President Obama was
born in some far away country.  That he is muslim.  People believe these false
statements because they are repetitively being asserted by the republican party.  It
is astonishing.  Representative Wilson should not be allowed to briefly state a mea
culpa for calling the sitting President of the United States of America a liar to his
face, in public, in Congress, and on broadcast television worldwide.  It is
unacceptable.

As a person who lost family and friends to the “brownshirts” I totally agree with you. The insane injection of Adolf Hitler and his hordes into current US politics and policies is not only a sign that Ouroborus cum suis have already lost his/her arguments but is also a vile insult to the true victims of Adolf Hitler and his hordes.

Republicans are fighting like hell to remain a minority
party of 20%.  They’ve got a lock on the whack-job

I’ll give you credit for only one thing; having the
courage to comment on my post.
If you do not see the long slide of the U.S. government
into a fascist/oligarchic form of governance then so be
it.
Frankly; the denial exhibited by the apathetic
citizenry of the good old U.S. of A. is whats pathetic
and if “the truthdiggers” have no idea of what you’re
talking about then it’s time to look in the mirror and
ask why? The fault lies with thee, not me.

I ought to weigh in on the interruption.

It has been the custom for generations to let the President speak without
verbal sparring, heckling, etc. The most you can do is cheer, or murmur
disagreement. As a conservative I do not like it when people downgrade our
civic traditions. There is a time and place to say that the President is wrong,
and even to say the President is lying. But not while he is addressing congress.
Not only is it wrong, but it is ignorant. Ignorant because downgrading our
interaction hurts everybody. The next President(probably a Republican, will
have to deal with hecklers during his/her address to congress.

This sort of thing only gets worse.

In my opinion, the guy who heckled Obama should not only apologize, but lose
his seat in congress.

Now a quick take on a similar subject: Ouroborus did a little
downgrading of our civic traditions too. The “Nazi brownshirt” stuff goes way
over the line. It is not only wrong, but it is ignorant.  The rhetoric of fascism
could come back to haunt the Truthdiggers, who as usual have no idea what i
am talking about.

Matt Taibbi writes about real stuff. His piece on Sarah Palin, Goldman Sachs, and now this health insurance debacle, are good examples of actual journalism that is not afraid to make those in control very uncomfortable.

Ah, the republicans, god bless em and I know they think
god does. Their behavior is familiar, but they’re
missing those nice brown dress shirts. I suppose the
next step is a raucous night breaking windows in those
neighborhoods they deem immigrant/illegal areas. They
already have their swastikas, but now they look like
crosses.

Just makes Obama look better and reverts the debate back to right vs left bullshit
obfuscation while real reform gets tabled. Wouldn’t be suprised if they agreed on
this beforehand.

re: Rodger Lemonde

What planet? I think it is called reality. The reality of actually examining what President Obama actually says, where you soon discover that his primary goal is keeping the health insurance industry viable; but of course, after reassuring the corporate syndicate that making profits from the misery of human beings is good, President Obama then claims they must be fair, and accountable.
A better question would be: What planet does Barack Obama live on? Sure, the numbskull who heckled the President showed bad taste, but hey, he is a republican, which translate into part of his character being totally dysfunctional. But when President Obam speaks about his “republican friends”, I stop and say: Really Barry? That same party that claims you are an illegal alien who has usurped your way to the executive throne. The same party that hinted you were a pedophile. That same party that claims you want to get ride of Grandma. And those republican friends of Obama all know he is Karl Marx’s bastard grandson from Kenya, or Hawaii… the same bloody difference.
Enjoy this very lame puppet show. Because if you actually take the time to read Matt Taibbi’s analysis, I think you will realize that’s all it is.

Not that I am crazy about Obama, but , I think he should have said, “Who said that? Tell me what I am lying about?”

It was absurd and Wilson should be embarassed. Of course, before this he should have been embarassed to be alive. The jackoff JAG officer.

Rep. Joe Wilson owes President Obama and the American public an apology—a big, quick and very sincere apology.  He was disrespectful and ignorant and showed no manners.  (Now that I think of it, if either or both of his parents are alive, he owes them an apology, too).  Rep. Wilson has, once again, embarassed the citizens and voters of S. Carolina and they’ve had enough of that from their leaders already.  Right, Governor Sanford?

It is terribly lame for Truthdig to be defending an incredibly lame president. For a much more in depth report on this health care mess, I suggest checking out Matt Taibbl’s recent brilliant analysis in the Rolling Stone. Here is a link that I hope works, if not, take the trouble to find it yourself:
