Ever wonder whether it gets a touch exasperating for politicians to face angry throngs of American citizens at those unruly gatherings everyone quaintly insists on calling “town hall meetings”? Well, witness Barney Frank, here, on the brink of a town hall snap (or two) in this bit from Wednesday’s “Daily Show.”  —KA

I have always thought that comparisons to Hitler and NAZIs from either side of the political spectrum come across as histrionics which make the speaker look foolish. Unless they are a dictator killing millions, its not really in the same ballpark, and to use such an emotional ploy really just lowers the whole discourse.

the person to unload on is not some demented dingbat at a public forum, but his party leaders who are selling out the people.

The dingbat in the forum i think was a Democrat, a follower of person named Lyndon LaRouche.

As far as what we should say when we are called NAZI: I will take that under advisement.

Conservatives are accused of being NAZI everyday. Its been going on a long time and any answer we give only validates the fact that an accusation was made. Rational answers dont work, so I am going to use the “Barney Frank method” from now on.

Mark it well, Truthdiggers.

You have been warned.

I don’t know about Frank being a genius, but this was a good way to respond to such a stupid question.  Its about time these nuts started being dismissed as nuts.  What happens with the nice guy approach is that nuts start defining the terms of the argument.  When we don’t want to be rude and dismiss people’s arguments as stupid, we give those stupid ideas validity.  They should be dismissed outright as stupid.

In this case if you start to argue that its not really a NAZI style health bill you give the idea that it might be a NAZI style health bill validity as a question.  It then becomes an argument over whether its NAZI or not NAZI, which is just stupid.

If you start talking about the subtleties of gun laws in response to nuts showing up at political rallies you have legitimized it.  Legal or not, it should be called out as crazy behavior, not the exercising of rights.

Obama would do very well to follow Frank’s lead and grow some balls and start calling these people the nuts they are.  Don’t be scared, let the right wing throw tantrums, hold their breath, get blue in the face.  Continue to lead on and call their BS.  We know there are more of us than those rightwing loons so stop being scared of their tantrums and dismiss them as the fringe loonies they are.  The right fringe are spoiled brats who have gotten their way for a long time, now they are throwing a major tantrum because they aren’t getting their way and someone else is in charge.  We can give in to the tantrum or start ignoring it as a tantrum by a small minority of the population.  You can’t please all the people all the time.  Any change will require pissing some people off, so let them be pissed and move on!

Frank’s got that thing, whatever that thing is. Brilliance, mostly, but something more. Maybe just that forever aura of tiredness. Is there any other in government who looks so tired all the time? Or who’s half so brilliant?

I do understand that he is a hero on the left. Everyone needs heroes. But I just had to laugh when i read the above rhapsody.

Recall a few years ago: Barney Frank deflected investigation Of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac with the remark that there was nothing wrong with Fannie Mae, and he accused those who said otherwise of using scare tactics. Even Bush knew there was something wrong. Even Bush.

There were important questions being asked, and Frank as chairman of the committee just waved them away. A rather costly error for the nation. By Mr Frank’s guidance, Fannie Mae was allowed to continue on its way to shipwreck, triggering a tremendous financial mess.

It is hard to imagine Barney Frank ever doing so much good that he could ever make up for his stupidity with Fannie Mae, let alone enough to be remembered as the “brilliant” politician of our times. Unless you are referring to Frank’s amazing ability to shift the blame to his opponents, and appear to be the one who helped saved the nation from disaster back in October, in which case i agree: the man is a genius.

If you have no idea your US Rep is jewish and gay, why would anyone expect you to have a clue about anything regarding healthcare proposals.
Come On I Live in MI,and apparently I know more about her Rep than she does!
Did she think she could influence Franks opinion by merely holding up that picture. Did she expect Frank to have a sudden revelation from her Graphic Arts skills about the true nature of Obama’s policies?
Who could take seriously the claims of a woman who can’t even deduce that minimalizing and marginalizing the effects of Hilters acts agaisnt the Jews would be offensive, to a Gay Jewish man?
It was wrong of the Left to be as insensitive (myself included) when comparing the Bushies to Nazi’s- But evidence to vindicate at least some of our asllegations are being revealed constantly-Illegal and unjustified invasions,Rendition, Black Sites, torture, spying on citizens, propaganda, hit squads. It is not merely the showers and gas chambers which define the Nazi Crimes, although by far the most vile.
Heres another stark difference between the Left Levying the charge of ‘nazism’ and the Right- The Left has not made a call to it’s members to become ‘Armed and Dangerous’.the left never showed up with an Semi Automatic slung over their shoulder to a Townhall meeting with Repugs to make a political point.
Not only do we have to be concerned about these 2nd Amenders mental stability, but their ability to protect that weapon from others, handle the weapon properly if called upon and know when they are not. We don’t need some idiot getting in the way of trained law enforcement in a security siutuation. A gun is NOT a Badge!
Many of US don’t need or want Your ‘protection’, the cost is too dear. If is far more the fantical radical Right I Fear, than any other Terrorists ‘sleeper cell’.
Frank was being diplomatic- a diningroom table can’t be a sociopathic dumbass lunatic, which is what I would have called her

Frank was in a position, head of the Financial Services committee, to deny the economic crimes of the financial community

He was willing participant of the “economic crimes” you speak of.

Why is it that people confuse Frank’s sophomoric retorts as a show of brilliance? I still hold the wise-assed gasbag responsible for the financial meltdown and housing crisis.

Frank was in a position, head of the Financial Services committee, to deny the economic crimes of the financial community and did not. But this response to the memorized nonsense of a far right zombie was right on target…We need much, much more of this.

Frank always comes over as an exhausted adult (often in suit and blue shirt neither of which appears quite to fit, and with tie loosened, and with slightly askew glasses from behind which he seems always to be in search of intelligent life) trying to reason with a particularly recalcitrant brat. Which makes for delicious comedy. Even more so when the subject is Lou Dobbs. Who’s just too dense to get it. Lou keeps inviting Frank back, whereupon every time Frank has Lou for dinner, speaking of dining-room tables.

Frank’s got that thing, whatever that thing is. Brilliance, mostly, but something more. Maybe just that forever aura of tiredness. Is there any other in government who looks so tired all the time? Or who’s half so brilliant?

Though Democrats are too right-wing for me, I love Frank not least for his capacity to endure. As he was saying of the First Amendment. He somehow keeps on believing.

We see here how Frank might address most of his colleagues and everyone in media too did he not have to be politically correct. Reality is that most are interesting as dining-room tables.

I suppose lucky for the poor woman she’ll not likely ever realize how one day she got run over by a Mack intellectual. (She looks a little befuddled, and, actually sadly, she’ll not likely ever realize just what happened. Anymore than will those gun-toting fools blathering of their “rights,” which is to say, blathering out of their egoism.)

While a pity for the serious left that Frank is also just another Democrat.  He’s way too smart for that crew of losers, who even when they win insist on continuing to lose. If not in the interest of “bipartisanship,” then as they squabble as to what the party supposedly stands for—dough or people, or just themselves.

Like when they keep telling us single-payer can’t be done. Aside from being no less sell-outs than those of liars party, reasonable to ask exactly why not? And please, none of that “free-market” drivel after that’s been thoroughly debunked.

But (trying to be) grateful for small things: Frank’s not a Libertarian either.

Did that woman really accuse a Jew of supporting a “Nazi” program? That’s worse than accusing an Italian of supporting a “Mussolini” program.
