Ari Melber

The Nation’s Ari Melber has some ideas about how the president can turn around his slipping poll numbers. First and foremost: Take charge and fight for the public option.

Side note: This clip is taken out of context, but it appears to perfectly capture the main problem with television news, with guests and host panting while they rush to express their bullet points in the few seconds they have for discussion.

Truth #1..
The Germans and the French have elected more conservative governments and not bought into the Joe Biden falasy that you need to spend your way out of bankruptcy. Last weeks news.. France & Germany have “unexpectedly” started to ease out of their recession and have actually grown their economies. Obamabots disguised as reporters here in the US are reporting the same thing despite the FACTS! Republicans oppose the progressive’s legislation because they would like to actually improve the country, NOT put the entire economy under the control of Obama’s multitude of unelected, extremist czars. Everyone keeps saying the Republicans offer no solutions, but the fact is their voices are ignored when they propose any ammendment. That being the case, I too would do everything I could to stop the Democrat’s progressive agenda, which by the way has done NOTHING but quadruple our debt. Now before some lib moron goes on a rant insulting my mama or saying I acted stupidly, I must say, I’m not real pleased with Republicans either, but if there are only two choices, it’s better to be right than a mindless drone.

I highly recommend a “middle class tax cut” right before the next election.

Truth # 1:
The Republicans have done everything possible to negate Obama’s attempts at bipartisanship. The Republican record clearly demonstrates filibuster threats, orchestrated interruptions of town hall meetings (those meetings, in themselves, a bipartisan gesture lacking during the Bush years), deliberate misinformation regarding the health care proposals, and attempts to confuse and lend a chaotic atmosphere to every debate on every issue.

Lie #1. Obama has mistakenly attempted a “bipartisan” approach.

Trying to ram the Bill through before anyone can think of its implications by relying on Democratic majorities isnt bipartisan. Withholding the matter from public debate on the Senate and House floor isnt bipartisan either. And getting a token handful of Republicans to vote with you isnt bipartisan.

Since the debate can’t happen in Congress, some citizens are justifiably nervous. Interrupting meetings is impolite and counterproductive, but many people feel that they must scream to be heard. Disagree with that method? So do I. You think it is fake? I do not.

Obama the campaigner PROMISED to be ‘bipartisan’ and ‘transparent’. But as President he is divisive and a closed door type of politician. He creates fear and intimidation to pass legislation quickly against as little public debate as possible.

Obama reminds me of Bush before the Iraq war. Its an effective method, and its legal. But opponents see that almost no congressman can say what needs to be said, so the opponents must say it themselves, which is also legal.

Whether you agree with his cause or not, you have to admit that Obama is using the same tactic as Bush. Limit the time and place for debate, and then your followers label any opponents as un-American. Or manufactured. Or fascist.

Dismissing the legitamacy of opposition is a bad habit and today the Left is doing it. How do we do better than this? Is it even possible at Truthdig?

Do not try to create a mythic angelic Obama when we can all see his very human qualities at work. He is not powerless, he contributed to the mess we are in.

Do not scapegoat Obama’s faults onto Rahm. This is the Obama Presidency.

Obama has pissed off (excuse the french) the people that count. Namely the Modlavians and now enjoying special priviliges due to their close relationships PM Bebe Nethanyahu and friends.

A Moldavian by the name of Orly Taitz and a California lawyer filed papers in Kenya as proof that Obama was actually born in Kenya. Ms.Taitz according to press reports is at present living in Tel Aviv. And with opposition of AIPAC, along with the Moldavians and Bebe, Obama is goning to need more than 4 ways to boost his numbers.

The rumors are amplified in: http://www.voltairenet.org/article161601.html.

“Someone said said something stupid: Ed, I blame the Israeli lobbyist Rahm Emmanuel for much of Obama’s treachery.

Yeah, when things go wrong, there is always a Jew somewhere who serves as the scapegoat.”—OzarkMichael

Ozark, I said that and stand by it; besides, you are comparing apples and oranges. Being an Israeli lobbyist (or technically a fundraiser for lobbyists) is not identical to being a Jewish American. Believe it or not there are many who see his role in such terms:

http://www.counterpunch.org/walsh10242006.html

Of course the israelis and others disagree, citing Rahm’s support for limiting Israeli settlements:

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/132656

but in any case he is a war monger:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeff-gates/rahm-emanuel-barack-obama_b_142837.html

Ozark, perhaps you prefer not to see a connection between big money and Rahm’s behind-the-scenes efforts on behalf of pro-war Democrats in order to assure continued conflict in the Middle East. I am not antisemitic and draw a big distinction between a patriotic Jewish American, and a political operative who works for a destabilized Middle East in order to give Israel opportunity to commit genocide in Gaza.

Funny, but I don’t think this deductive reasoning is stupid at all.

Obama IS educated, IS articulate, IS intelligent. But we’re all fools if we think those qualities (refreshing as they are, considering the idiot before him) are enough.

1. Obama has mistakenly attempted a “bipartisan” approach. The Republicans - especially the extreme right in that party - don’t give a rat’s @ss about bipartisanship. Let’s stop pretending they care more about their country than their party. They don’t. We’re being played as suckers.
2. Obama, saddled with more holes in the dike than any incoming president since Roosevelt, should have IMMEDIATELY taken advantage of the chaotic situation he inherited. Right away first couple of weeks into his presidency, out comes his proposed health care program, the stimulus packages, closing Guantanamo, ending Bush’s tax breaks for the wealthy, eliminating the “don’t ask; don’t tell” policy, opening the door on a war crimes investigation, pushing for federal legislation to permit gay marriage, etc. Instead we got bipartisan committees on this, bipartisan committees on that. He TALKED about this, SAID that, TABLED this, HEMMED on that and HAWED on that. Big Mistake.
3. So now, seven months later, Obama has pissed off BOTH the Republicans AND his progressive base. The Republicans can point to a man who not only they disagree with, but who’s flip-flopped on his promises! Instead of change, we have….what? Continued dialog?
4. Obama has to draw a line. Screw bipartisanship. Screw the drug companies. Screw the homophobes, screw the banks, screw the anti-science evangelists, screw the hypocrites. Sweeping change is what is needed and my bet is that more Americans would have gotten behind those changes, would have gotten more excited by those changes had they come right away. I have a sinking feeling that unless our president changes back to his CHANGE message, the train will have left the station and we’ll be back with a Republican congress in 2010.

Obama is failing because he didn’t Rahm the bill thru before the break. Now people have an opportunity to read the bill and they are thinking, why does the government need access to my bank account? If all of the “progressive” legislation passes, Americans will become slaves to the government. That’s the change I’m not hoping for!!  If anyone saw the report from the UN, you all better hope the global warming bills pass within 4 months or the world is doomed. Well, actually, winter will be here and it will be harder to sell, but still, we’re all doomed!!

This administration and this democratic congress have nobody to blame but themselves. They have done nothing but alienate the American people with their arrogance and classification that if you are not with them you are a mob or un-American. These people have lost their mind. President the buck stops with you, it is clear your actions (lack of leadership) are speaking louder than your words.

Yeah, when things go wrong, there is always a Jew somewhere who serves as the scapegoat.

I only wonder why there is talk of boosting Obama’s numbers. Just a few months ago he had terrific popularity, even after a bitter presidential contest. Has something changed? i never saw any notification here at truthdig that anything changed.

I mean, isnt Obama the most intelligent and unifying President in recent memory?

Duro writes: “Obama gives pretty speeches, but he is failing because he doesn’t know how to act. Like me, he is full of ideas which he is unable to execute because he lacks the skills and experience to do so.”

I don’t believe that’s why he isn’t executing on his promises. In fact, I wish it was. What I am honestly starting to believe is that this man has pulled the betrayal of the century on Americans. I really suspect Obama is a neocon trojan horse meant to demoralize the progressive movement once and for all.

But if that turns out to be the case, I believe the backlash from dashing the expectations of the people will be enormous.

Obama has betrayed progressives on issues ranging from same-sex human rights to Afghanistan, from the banking crisis to the single-payer health care option. It’s so extreme “bait-and-switch” is a legitimate perception of his motives and lack of ethics as a citizen as well as POTUS.

Obama has sold everyone out except the wealthy interests who have lined his bulging pockets. Now he wants our support? I don’t think so, unless he honors his promises and turns around and does us right. Threatening us with the GOP Bogeyman isn’t going to work either.

Ed, I blame the Israeli lobbyist Rahm Emmanuel for much of Obama’s treachery.

This “expert”, predictably, ignores our disastrous Israel-centric foreign policy as any sort of problem for Obama’s popularity. The fact that Obama is essentially continuing Bush’s hated foreign policy couldn’t be any sort of political problem, could it, for a guy who got to be President largely because he claimed to oppose that foreign policy?

Obama could hugely boost his popularity with a hell of a lot of voters by finally standing up to Israel, for example by absolutely ruling out any US war against or bombing of Iran, and by telling Israel — loudly, publicly, and in no uncertain terms — that the US will cease all support for Israel if Israel should decide to bomb Iran itself.

(Of course,  I wouldn’t expect a Mr. Ari Melber to agree with me or even mention this subject. And of course, he’s the only kind of “liberal expert” who gets to give political advice to Obama on our corporate Zionist TV news shows.)

Obama gives pretty speeches, but he is failing because he doesn’t know how to act. Like me, he is full of ideas which he is unable to execute because he lacks the skills and experience to do so. The public does not need reassurances, it needs leadership and the country does not have that.
