‘Left, Right & Center’: Big-Dog Diplomacy, Sotomayor and Health CarePosted on Aug 7, 2009
Diplomacy by former President Bill Clinton that brought home two journalists from North Korea offers a moment to reflect on the anniversary of the Hiroshima nuclear attack. Sonia Sotomayor’s been confirmed, but not until after there was a dramatic display of partisan ideology. Plus, is the disruption of health care town halls real or orchestrated? The meaning of democracy is that both sides are heard and to shout someone down and then not listen is something that two years old do.
The right has the right to state their opinions but their opinions should not be based on some fear factor.
Like the man who thought that his son with Ceberal Palsey would be subject to mercy killing is crazy. No one would let it happen. This is not Natzi Germany and anyone who compares Obama to a Natzi is listening to someone who just wants to stir up the pot. Those who protest the loudest are the ones who have Medicare. Kind of like I have mine but you can’t have what I have.

Sotomayor just may be the gift to the Republicans they don’t want! They could only attack some of her more ‘radical’ statements in speeches but none of her rulings. The ones they did question she was with the majority and was following the law.
I am glad those two journalists are back from the gulag nation of N. Korea! Now if they could just do the same for all of those now languishing in Iran.
Orchestrated or no, the disruptions at the town meetings are not productive and move against the idea of such meetings. Hitler wrote about doing just that in “Mein Kampf” and he was by no means the only one to use such tactics. Any group of any political stripe who is bent on stopping normal decent people from exercising their rights is a danger to the Republic and civil discourse.
If they are organized only to disrupt then they need to be escorted out if they ask questions and then let them be answered. So should it be for anyone. There is plenty of evidence to show that they are coordinated which in itself isn’t bad, it is what they are after that is so. I am against it when on campus a right winger is shouted down instead of being allowed to speak. That is the essence of suppression of free speech. Free speech is that which you don’t want to hear or agree with. You may be next.
