The president must have had those blue dogs in mind when he attempted to link health care reform to deficit reduction during his press conference Wednesday. At least one pundit called it a defining moment. We embed, you decide.

Outraged,

Appreciated your comments.

I have to admit I missed most of this.  I got the part where he was only talking about insurance exchanges and I could feel my BP rising and couldn’t watch anymore.  And after that I couldn’t listen to him drone on anymore.

So the O-man actually uttered the words “single payer”.  Interesting the way he talked about the bus analogy.  But doesn’t the insurance mandate sort of take care of this problem?  Just asking.  You know me, I’m a single-payer advocate.  I am curious why O mentioned this.

I tuned in for a few minutes into the Ohio Town Hall that he held today, and flipped it off as I was hearing O doing nothing but talking about the usual and no questions had been asked.  I know Helen Thomas and Chip Reid ripped into Gibbs about the last scripted and pre-screened joke of a town hall,
where a single-payer question was allowed only for the sake of saying it’s not feasible.

Cleveland Clinic,Mayo Clinic ,Johns Hopkins attract top talent.NO DOUBT about it.BUT these hospitals serve another set of clients,VIP and very rich from around the world—who pay 10,000$/day for consulation with top doctors. Some one told me that normal charge is 125,000$ for doctors—surgeons charge close to 500,000 $.Hospitals have their own charges.WHAT’s my point:
Salaries are supplemented by these extra Perks/consultations.
This is fine—as these VIP/RICH can afford. If Michael Jackson paid his doctor 50,000$ per month ,that is fine.President Obama has several doctors who are paid well.
IF WE TRY TO RESTRICT DOCTORS compensation—QUALITY over time will go down as most talented can pursue other professions—like LAW or business.
LET US KEEP DOCTORS FEES ATTRACTIVE—I would say—PAY THEMOVERTIME—for taking night/weekend calls in their office—rather than shifting them to ER—doctors who are fully trained as Internist—MISS STROKE or CHRON’s symptoms often.
LET US attract the BEST—other wise MEDICORE will order more tests and COSTS will go up.Top doctors who got top grades—know answers to most problems—whereas most doctors pass board exams with 75% marks—thus passing with One wrong answer out of Four questions.

The Man is serious and tackling The Health Care change. More than WE can say about the Last 8 yrs which was Zero. It’s not perfect, but I thrust that he is looking out for most of us. I don’t feel we have anyone in Politics who has it tgether as Obama. Work with the man, he can do it

Last night on Faux Snooze, Bill-O said that he listened to the Pres and failed to understand ANY of it.  His example was the situation Obama mentioned about a person going to three different providers and each provider conducting the same test - this is absolutely rampant in the health care industry.  What is it that Bill-O cannot understand?
Each doctor/hospital/dentist believes that ONLY the tests or x-rays at his/her facility are useable/accurate - THEY DON’T CARE that they are doing expensive duplicates.  Most US facilities are moving to digitized x-rays and electronic record keeping - but each format is unique.  That MedPak Board should at least dictate a single digital standard for each type of record or test - and patients should be able to have a copy of EVERYthing on a thumb drive.  Patients often have to PAY to “borrow” their own records or x-rays e.g. a 2nd opinion or additional treatments.  The providers think those records belong to them instead of the patients.
Having been to the Mayo Clinic, one big reason they can cut costs is that they SHARE the electronic data among all their providers.  Each appropriate doc, nurse, clerk, whatever has access to the data just in time for a patient appointment - NO REPEATS - and very short delays between visits.  Privacy is important; but it can be handled correctly and expeditiously to the benefit of patients and medicos.

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs. - Thomas Jefferson

Heard President talk about cooperation from doctors,AARP,AMA,Pharma co.,Hospitals—HOW ABOUT COOPERATION from PEOPLE—who have driven OBESITY from 15% to 30% in 30 years? How about millions who smoke? How about 6 million who abuse Prescription drugs? How about millions who ignore their Doctors—not take medicine or get Colonscopies or other Cancer Screening or Diabeties Screening.
Obese have Gastrointestinal disorders—3 times more. They have more diabeties and heart problems.
Safeway’s employees cooperated,Cleveland Clinic’s program to offer Nutrition and Exercise advice as part of health care is important.
Gastrointestinal Health Specialists in Geneva,Illinois have launched a program similar to CLEVELAND CLINIC.
Also—How about paying doctors OVERTIME FEES for seeing patients at night or weekends?
Mayo Clinic provided primary care in communities on 24 hours/7 Days basis. That lowered ER costs.

Outraged,

I have posted your degree of outrage elsewhere, mostly directed at the inept press that refuses or is unable to ask the right questions.

Thanks for the post. I missed that first part of the presser.  I’m glad I did, because I don’t think the veins in my forehead could have taken the apoplexy that would have resulted if I would have heard that statement from Obama.

Your doctor will tell you to take all of your medicine not just enough to feel better. A single payer system is the prescription for the health care we all deserve.

The MOST important statement Pres. Obama made during this press conference also appears the most overlooked or under-realized, at least from “pundit gallery” blather.

“PRESIDENT OBAMA: I want to cover everybody. Now, the truth is that unless you have a—what’s called a single-payer system, in which everybody’s automatically covered, then you’re probably not going to reach every single individual, because there’s always going to be somebody out there who thinks they’re indestructible and doesn’t want to get health care, doesn’t bother getting health care, and then, unfortunately, when they get hit by a bus, end up in the emergency room and the rest of us have to pay for it.”

Absolutely, I agree.  That IS the truth….. so if the public option can reach 97% or better, why not the WHOLE BANANA…?  Endorse SINGLE-PAYER.  Demand SINGLE-PAYER.

Some say why….?  Many others (including myself), say why not…?  EVERYBODY IN, NOBODY OUT, it’s the only way to fly.  It’s simply silly to think that some should hang from the wings of the plane because they’re either daring or stupid enough to do so.

(For those suffering with cantankerous systems like mine, a transcript of the press conference can be found here)
