‘Daily Show’: We Don’t Torture?

Posted on Apr 21, 2009

What is it with politicians who don’t seem to understand that anything they say these days may later haunt them on TV or even The Internets? Consider, for example, former President Bush’s three-word declaration of yore: “We don’t torture.” Oh, really?

Yes we do…we have for a long time. Try visiting a max security prison or a bootcamp. Read up on Black Sites.
http://www.mercurynews.com/politics/ci_12110915

“...Joanne Mariner, the director of the terrorism and counterterrorism program at Human Rights Watch, said the closing of the CIA prisons was “incredibly heartening and important.” But she said that a criminal investigation of the CIA interrogation program was nonetheless necessary, and she expressed concern that Panetta had not made it clear what evidence the CIA would need to detain a suspect….”
So, there were no BLack Sites, or theyre going to close them or wha???

Folktruther nails it.

I wait for JonStewart, Colbert to put the truth out there with video tape. Why won’t MSM use video on what these folks said, say, and keep saying.  Only MTP host uses video for those specious ‘gotta you’ moments.
Jon, keep up the good work - you, comics don’t have to make up stuff anymore, it keep on keeping on for you folks.  I remember Comedian Wanda Stykes saying ‘she is not afraid of the mugger walking down the streets, he will take your handbag and run away.  She is afraid of the suited guy with his WSJ folded under his arm.  That person will steal your life savings, send to the poor house, and you never know what hit you.’

Heads should roll? OK then…

“The CIA briefed top Democrats and Republicans on the congressional intelligence committees more than 30 times about enhanced interrogation techniques, according to intelligence sources who said the lawmakers tacitly approved the techniques that some Democrats in Congress now say should land Bush administration officials in jail.

Between 2002 and 2006, the top Republicans and Democrats on the House and Senate intelligence committees “each got complete, benchmark briefings on the program,” said one of the intelligence sources who is familiar with the briefings”

Hell yes…let the heads REALLY start rolling!

If the neo-cons believe the torture methods are SO darned effective, why did they stop the waterboarding sessions at 183 for Khalid ?  Why not do 184 or 1,000 -  why not just do it hourly so that even more info came out?
How did the CIA know that they had all they needed at session 183 ?  I live in the midwest - but I can smell something fishy from here.
Joe Scarborough says that Khalid was not only lucid but “at the top of his game” in court sessions - AFTER the 183 waterboardings.  Others say he was brain dead - if he was still SO lucid, why did they stop the “enhanced methods”?

The reason WHY more isnt being made of any of this is because as more comes out, more and more you will see that democrat leaders where [resent during those briefings, knew about the techniques being used, and agreed with them, in some cases even asking if there was more that can be done.

Once you open that big ol can of whoop ass you are going to have to deal with ALL of its contents. Pelosi and Reid are satisfied with people like Conyers banging the drum because they know it will keep things riled up…but wont bring about any action. And when the facts come out about interrogation techniques, warrantless searches and wiretaps…well…watch how quickly people change their tune.

Oh…and BTW…isnt it interesting that while everyone is thrilled Obama is wanting to close Guantanimo Bay, no one is objecting to the fact that he is building up a sister facility in the middle east…

Why is it a few comedians are the only MSM people that get to the truth?
Torture must be punished. This is a no brainer for any civilized nation.  But wait isn’t war profiteering a war crime and isn’t destroying a country and killing millions and ruining many more millions lives some type of crime also? Isn’t it a crime to run secret prisons and contract the torturing out to others?  But then isn’t a crime to use illegal wiretaps to imprison innocent citizens? Then we don’t want to get into the illegal and illegitimate backroom politics that created the financial fiasco we are in, but those are crimes as well.

Yes, we need to prosecute those that tortured and those that ordered the torture to take place. But when “We The People” supposedly twice elected the most incompetent, corrupt, foul, vile, leader ever to be elected in any democracy we own it to our posterity and to the world to prosecute the bush cabal for all their crimes.  We also need to make sure the republicans can no longer rig the elections.

Water boarding has always been torture, it was torture in the 1st century it was torture in the 6th century it was torture in the 13 century it was torture in the 20 century.  Only since these crazy American hating, liberty hating, freedom hating, wingnuts stole our country in the last 5 elections has it not been considered torture.
These gutless, inhumane, spineless, worthless, subhuman’s, who’s only concern is to steal all the money the hard working citizens pay to the government. The bush cabal should all be tried and hung like the worthless filth they are. Any gutless inhumane bureaucrat that tortured another human should be executed beside their leaders.

However, this is somewhat sticky since we routinely torture and in many cases murder our own citizens.

“omop”—

Still haven’t caught up with reality, eh?

1.  Osama bin Laden, RELIGIOUS FANATIC, was loudly on the record—it was in all the papers, none of which YOU read—for five years before Bushit was in office, about wanting Saddam Hussein OVERTHROWN, and his gov’t replaced with a theocracy along the lines of that in Iran.

2.  Saddam Hussein, AT MINIMUM AGNOSTIC, put in and kept in power by such as the US, and head of the most secular—non-religious—Middle Eastern gov’t, was one of the foremost (Israel the other) exterminators of “terrorists” in the Middle East.

3.  Answer: The only thing Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein had in common was that they were MUTUAL ENEMIES.

A bit of copied “sick humor” to comply with “We Don’t Torture”.

Questioner: You speak English?

Answer:    You speak Arabic or Urdu?

Questioner:  He says. Yes. Saddam and Osama call
              each other all the time.

The US power structure tortures because the population doesn’t oppose it.  The population doesn’t oppose it because it is united and lead by American Liberalism, rather than a socialist or other class struggle ideology like most other Western polities. This ideology legitimates a fake Democracy where the people have no power. the enormous class inequality has so skewed the balance of power that the US power structure can say and do anything with only ineffective resistence.

Just hearing the words “cramped box” and “caterpillar” literally made my spine shiver. I also read that this was a technique used on their children. That’s about as “1984” as it gets.

Thank you Jon…..

In defense of the torturers, they were only doing what they were told to do, just like the Nazis at Nuremberg these men and women were obeying orders from higher ups.
Really Now! Has America become the land of ‘obey the orders I give you and shut up about them,’ or does the US still have the Uniform Code of Military Justice, which states that any illegal or immoral order can be disobeyed?
Appalling to think that such atrocities have been committed by men and women who were raised to believe in the rule of law!
