Rep. Michele Bachmann is sounding the alarm to radio-show host/wingnut Sue Jeffers about the scary government-controlled future that will surely result if Barack Obama has his way with us—starting with “mandatory” re-education camps for American children. And don’t even get her started on SCHIP.

Bachmann is taking some of the heat off Palin, for the moment…..
They both run their mouth on Energizer, and they just keep going and going.

AmericaCorps’ list of “what you can do” possibilities for young people isn’t that different from the Peace Corps’ brief. It’s not like our country couldn’t use the help—tutoring, habitat-for-humanity-style projects, helping clean up environment—and sounds more individually-driven than choices offered by boy and girl scount troops etc. What’s not to like? (As in all afterschool extracurricular stuff of course the young people would have to be maintaining high averages in learning during school hours.)

Bachmann is horrid in so many ways it is difficult to keep up. In addition to this nonsense about “re-education camps” she is also one of the douche-nozzles spewing the absolutely incorrect rhetoric about the $3128.00 increase in the average homeowners anual energy cost. She cites a reputable study which not only contains no such figure, it comes to no such conclusion.

Her hateful lies are whipping the far-right fringe into a lather and inciting rebellion. She is a traitor. She doesn’t belong in the House. She belongs in the Big House.

“...re-education camps for American children…”

Oh, WTF! Aren’t all those suburban jeuvenile behavioral modification centers, replete with socially repressive indoctrination programs, the same parochial and private school systems that gave birth to the taxfunded dole we call school vouchers? Why, those wasteful ReThugniCons just spent 8 years touting those suburban GITMOs as second only to the rapture when it comes to segregating affluent little white kids from the children of poor white people, children of the freaking rainbow coalition, and worst, the dreadful assorted offspring of colored heathens who noisily celebrate a strange, foreign dogmatic heritage that is strictly forbidden by entrenched, black robed, pompadoured institutional regressionists overseeing suburban white cultic rituals every Sunday at mega-religious industustrial corporacratic indoctrination complexes inconveniently located in the middle of some sub-suburban nowhere, approximately 175 miles away from known civilization in all directions.

So, now that every suburban Dumbbuttistan boasts a voucher-funded educational GITMO, why is Bachmann’s hair ablaze? After all, I was under the impression that having one’s rotten child considered for entry into such an exclusive edcuational facility was the all-consumming obsession of Bachmann and every other affluent, brainless, shallow, multi-tasking, SUV wheeling, suburban dingbat, er, uh soccer mom, who dwelled under constant high security surveillance behind the Blackwater guarded gates of the over-valued, bogusly mortgaged, regularly forclosed McMansion-stuffed concentration camps in suburban Dumbuttistans all over America. As soon as half these obnoxious hags gets that very first positive on her home pregnancy test, they immediately commence to salivating like Pavlov’s dog at the chance to etch with smoking treacle the hyphenated names of their satanic proginee onto presitigious stone waiting lists that distiguishes the youthful Nazi peerage awaiting potential selection for internment into one of these fine terrorist breeding facilities where future psychotic antisocial pathocrats are notoriously groomed to take over large corporations or terrorize small countries. Most of these hussies adamantly insist that their little pug-nosed nitwit be securely enrolled before the brat is even potty trained. I mean, heaven forbid, the Hitler’s little Adolph is denied this golden opportunity longer than kindergarten, thus stifling the development of the recalcintrant little churl’s imposing tyranny, and inexplicable sense of inflated self worth and global entitlement. Why, it will render this potential bottom-feeding butt wart to be positively useless to the religio-fascist military industrial corporatocratic empire in which he will goose-step to retirement, prison, or death, whichever comes first. Is this not every single thing for which these RethugniCon Dumbbuttistanis could have prayed? Sheesh!

Seriously, Michelle Bachmann needs to consult her physician to find out if Ambien is right for her. Obviously, that ginormous lithium bolus is no longer strong enough, even with the valium.

This Woamn is a US Representative, not a nobody blogger. She is not only misrepresenting the people of MN- she is also Misrepresenting US.
If she feels she is a correspondant reporting behind enmey lines while serving in OUR Second Branch of Gov’t- she is the Enemy, Not the Age old institution she is operating from.
worse yet she is blatantly calling for hostile and violent insurrection ‘Armed and Dangerous’. Is MN calling for another Civil War? have they given her the OK to speak such treason on their behalf?
It is one thing for Bat shit crazy bloggers like myself, or even small BS groups to talk shit..it si entirely a different matter when an elected official working within our Halls of Gov’t to perpetuate such ideas. FYI As Public Servants your duty is to Serve & protect our laws and ‘Unitedness’- not try to undermine or Destroy them.
The Entire Right wing has been inciting violence, on an individual level and a natioanl level- it’s time they are held legally culpable for the inevitable results. No one is out to take away the 2nd amendment- just use some common sense- so those making such outrageous claims should be prosecuted for the complicty in the deaths of those 3 police officers- and any others who died because of this Out Right LIE! they are just as guilty of a crime as a person who screams ‘fire’ in a theatre when none is present. That’s not covered under ‘Freedom of Speech’for the exact same reason- it endangers peoples lives. These politicians and their Media lap dogs have a responsiblity to Public safety- they have intentionally broken that Priviledged Authority. It would be far more egregious for a Fire marshall to Yell ‘Fire’ than merely a movie goer- since the audience would respond more readily to their Expressed authority.
I see no difference when it come to the hyteria that the Repugs and their media mouthpieces are doing with the Rhetoric they have chosen to use to express their greivances. They are literally inciting mass Hysteria, which is endangering our form of Gov’t and every citizens personal safety within their communities. I am far more fearful of the whacked out Rightwinger down the Street now, than any far off Cave dweller. I am now more likely to die at the hands of some Neo con than any AQ operative. History has proven they are the True Terrorists Americans should be monitoring and reporting.

When you see terms like “mandatory volunteer service”, you know there’s a con going on.

We could call it by some of the more traditional names like ‘forced labor’, ‘press gangs’ or ‘slavery’.

@ Outraged

“In short she values her kids so much more than most that everyone else’s kids could just die as far as she is concerned.”

In this point of view she is honestly an elitist. Most of Congress would gladly sell out the interests of the working classes. As to the mandatory volunteer service, I think I would be concerned over various attempts to force a draft upon the youth. It is on of those agendas that will always return to the process.

This is similar to more free trade treaties or a large amnesty for illegal aliens or another attempt to pass a hate speech code. The hate speech crimes bill does have some unsympathetic figures to target such as homophobic Christians or xenophobic identity groups. But the same law that can could charge incitement to violence for what was free speech can be used against free thinkers who rail against Islam for its misogyny, or criticize barbaric African customs like FGM or witchcraft as hate speech.

In essence I see an antipathy toward civil rights and constitutional government. I am reminded of George Bernard Shaw, the gentleman Stalinist/fascist, who considered the American constitution as an obstacle to progress.

Rahm Emmanuel and Obama have in the past stressed the need for a national draft for a federal service corps. Obama stressed that military service could not on its own get the job done, and a national service corps would be needed to supplement it. I recall Rahm Emmnauel saying that we would be part of the circle of love when it came to a mandated service corps for young people. I would say we should be aware of any attempts to force people at a point of a gun to serve the government. I think any service program that mandates indoctrination in the public schools toward service should be opposed. I would like to see how many liberals would react if every student was required to take a course on the importance of serving in the military. I thank Outraged for clarifying the issue in the legislative process.

Re: Paracelsus

This site explains “the mandatory” issue among other things, an excerpt:

“Forced Public Service

Some Internet postings claim the bill says the government must come up with plans for a “mandatory service requirement for all able young people,” but that phrase is nowhere to be found in either the House-passed bill or the Senate version.

The bill as introduced in the House, however, did call for examining whether this would be a good idea. It called for a congressional commission to “address and analyze” several topics, including “issues that deter volunteerism” and how they can be overcome, how expanding international public service might affect diplomacy and foreign relations, and “[w]hether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation.” The commission would also investigate “[t]he need for a public service academy, a 4-year institution that offers a federally funded undergraduate education with a focus on training future public sector leaders.”

All of that language is now gone. To be clear, the original bill didn’t call for a mandatory public service program, but called for the exploration of whether one could be established. But the entire section on creating a “Congressional Commission on Civic Service” was stripped from the bill.

It is part of a separate piece of legislation, introduced on March 11 (two days after H.R. 1388 was introduced) by Democratic Rep. Jim McDermott. H.R. 1444 was referred to a House committee. No other action has been taken on the bill. McDermott introduced a similar bill in 2007 and it died, never making it out of a subcommittee.

Furthermore, Hatch, a Republican cosponsor of the Senate’s national service bill, said on the floor of the Senate that nothing in the legislation called for mandatory service”

“I am not going to play the game of make fun of the right wing nut.”
**********************************

I am not either but I will say this about this screaming harpie and her paranoia about an educational system that benefits her ‘precious’ children which she can afford but leaves far too many others behind because ‘public education’ costs too much. In short she values her kids so much more than most that everyone else’s kids could just die as far as she is concerned. I have seen her shooting off at the mouth about how much better of person she and her family and the conservative whole are, that she would just as soon see the ‘poor’ middle class die off for her goddamn benefit. She isn’t fit for the position is holds and I look upon her as a traitor to this country and the people that her decisions adversely affect. Another neoconservative that just won’t go away like that palin woman who will do what she can no matter what the cost to others just to try to become president. Prime example of female conservatism out of control.

Pardon me, but Section 6104 seems to have been stripped out of the Give Act, but it is now in HR 1444. I suppose it is a matter of keeping the eye on the pea when it comes to the shell game. I do not agree on Ms. Bachmann’s other ideas on foreclosures, but I don’t think it is a matter of knee jerk excoriation of the bad Republican. Volunteerism is wonderful, but if you have to indoctrinate school children to volunteer then there is less time to teach them Shakespeare or trigonometry, and that somehow fills my nostrils with a horrible stench. Having a class in “teaching” the virtues of volunteerism seems out of whack. I thought that sort of thing should be taught in church or by family. Rahm Emmanuel dilated upon the idea of required voluntary service in 2006. Can’t you see an agenda that goes against due process and the prohibition against involuntary servitude?

I am not going to play the game of make fun of the right wing nut. I just know what I have read from the GIVE act as passed by the House:

Section 6104 of The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act requires that a commission be established to investigate, “Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.”

Section 6104 requests that government investigate forced labor from young folks. It is there in the act. Do all the name calling you want. I did not make this up; Congress did. As for re-education camps, perhaps that is the end game, but the term is premature and hyperbolic as it makes for good chum for the left-right professional wrestling game. Then again I do not know what this investigative committe could come up with. We already have tent cities, so it would not be such a stretch to turn them into re-education camps. I did not see the video from Truthdig when I posted this. After posting I will watch the video.

Bachmann’s statements about “free markets” make her agenda clear.  She is trying to incite the public on behalf on the “free marketers,” especially among the “armed and dangerous” crowd. Since she’s not promoting accountability and regulations, we can only assume she’s promoting the “corrupted” status quo.

Michele Bachmannis one of those big mouthed republicans who often speak with ignorance instead of listening to reason.
In my opinion she is a racist and is intolerant to all but her own radically religious agenda.
The only dumbing down in America can be placed on the people from either political party who would want to do away with the nationalised school system that we have in favor of vouchers now-and later those vouchers would be rescinded and we would find only the wealthy buying their educations.
Wake up America.
Maybe Michele would do better to concern herself with the youth boot camps that kill youngsters in the name of discipline,
pretty much a republican education.

I don’t know anything about Bachmann, but I have read Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt book “The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America”.

Those that think this isn’t real or true better think twice before they dismiss Bachmann.

That zaney Representative Bachmann!

Her 6th Congressional District in Mn has the highest foreclosure numbers in the state, yet she opposes every bill that tries to keep people in housing and mortgage companies being paid

But there’s time to protect the US currency from non-existent plans to change it that no one intends to try .... and now alert the youth of America about those subversive, propagandizing Democrats who will force mind control over our youth, an astonishingly surreal interpretation of pending legislation

Her priorities puzzle, to understate it

Bachmann’s “re-education” camps:

Each year, AmeriCorps offers 75,000(of course this was increased with the new legislation) opportunities for adults of all ages and backgrounds to serve through a network of partnerships with local and national nonprofit groups. Whether your service makes a community safer, gives a child a second chance, or helps protect the environment, you’ll be getting things done through AmeriCorps!

AmeriCorps members address critical needs in communities all across America. As an AmeriCorps member, you can:

Tutor and mentor disadvantaged youth
Fight illiteracy
Improve health services
Build affordable housing
Teach computer skills
Clean parks and streams
Manage or operate after-school programs
Help communities respond to disasters
Build organizational capacity

Benefits of Service

As an AmeriCorps member, you’ll gain new skills and experiences—and you’ll also find the tremendous satisfaction that comes from helping others. In addition, full-time members who complete their service earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $4,725 to pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back qualified student loans; members who serve part-time receive a partial Award. Some AmeriCorps members may also receive a modest living allowance during their term of service.

What…. are we letting anyone in the door as a representative in congress….. she’s insane.

“Just to the north of the Twin Cities, the 6th district, represented by Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann, had the most foreclosures of any of Minnesota’s eight congressional districts, with an estimated 5,227 in 2008. Her district also had the highest rate of foreclosures as a percentage of households, at 1.80 percent, nearly that of the city of Minneapolis at 1.85 percent.

.... and how is Bachmann responding to the crisis?

While much of the crisis is centralized in an area covering two congressional districts, a search of the congressional record reveals that the representatives in those districts are dealing with the crisis very differently. Rep. Michele Bachmann has voted against all but one measure aimed at foreclosure relief, while Rep. Keith Ellison in the neighboring district has supported or introduced more than a dozen bills to address the issue.”
