Protesters Call for Boycott of N.Y. PostPosted on Feb 19, 2009
The New York Post may yet discover that not all publicity is good publicity, particularly when it comes to the Rupert Murdoch-owned paper’s decision to run a cartoon on Wednesday linking Washington politicians (perhaps one in particular) to a marauding chimpanzee. The cartoon sparked an uproar that on Thursday found hundreds of protesters demanding a boycott of the Post by readers and advertisers. AP via YouTube:

...Sober up people, don’t forget the real tragedy here - forcing a jungle dwelling primate to consume wine, lobster and drugs while subjecting it to the internet and television (perhaps even Cable!) is the cruelest twist in this too twisted tale. Imagine the confusion and horror of trying to fit in to this alien world, liken it to yourself being on some alien spacecraft with no hope of understanding the technologies or cultural nuances that discourage ripping off your fellow man’s limbs and privates. yea, pity the beast, but no more than we ourselves have become in our senseless quest to assign and identify human qualities in creatures that would as soon have us for dinner.

Time to start the boycotting process and extend it to Israel and the zionists which support it, whom Murdoch is among their number.
Cancel Amdocs and Infosys contracts as the NSA has recommended and plug those holes created by outsourcing.
This is just another example of PR by a thousand cuts.

Dr. Leon III is right on target again
The Power of Imagery and Why It Is Used
Friday 20 February 2009
by: Dr. Wilmer J. Leon III, t r u t h o u t | Perspective

“Hundreds of protesters outside The New York Post’s headquarters showed up Thursday to voice their anger over a controversial cartoon published by The Post showing two police officers shooting a chimpanzee and referring to the stimulus bill the Obama administration has championed.” (Photo: Getty Images)
This past Wednesday, February 18, The New York Post published a cartoon drawn by famed cartoonist Sean Delonas depicting two white police officers killing a chimpanzee. One of the police officers says to the other, “They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.”
In response to public outrage at the bigoted, insensitive and racially inflammatory cartoon, Col Allen, editor in chief of The New York Post, released the following statement: “The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington’s efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist.”
Allen’s response is interesting and just as ridiculous as the cartoon he is attempting to defend. If Col Allen does not understand the historical context of this outrage, I would say he’s an idiot, but that would offend the idiots of the world. If the editorial board ignored the potential for outrage before the cartoon was published and published it anyway, people of good conscience should never buy The New York Post again. Also, advertisers in The Post should understand that they are vulnerable as well.”
Then there’s the ‘meat’ of it, that I’ll let you read at the link if you like.
But, he starts to finish up with the main point of these and other types of racist propaganda that he also mentions in the piece.
“This imagery is powerful and used for a very specific reason. It allows the satirists to say vile and bigoted things in a public space that they do not have the guts to say directly. Many times, the images are more powerful than words could ever be. Through their imagery, these individuals are pandering to the lowest common denominators of those who think like them in an attempt to send a message or strike a nerve under the cloak of satire, parody and humor.”

And, there we have it. The only thing we can do now, is the same thing that we HAVE to do, which is to essentially shut these people down. Expel them from our society, (virtually if not literally)
It’s like Purple Girl says: APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED.
(It wasn’t an ‘apology’ anyway – it only continued the insult)
Let the Boycott begin. (maybe we need a couple of effective courses on productive boycotting techniques - target the advertisers as well.)

Hopefully this will be the beginning of Press boycotts for inflammatory, racist content (I can think of a whole lot more).
and a message to Walter: New York’s not liberal anymore, at least not anywhere near where it used to be.

There really isn’t any doubt about the violent racist intent of this cartoon. Sure, we have the First Amendment in this country, so the Post has the right to publish this thing or any other smut; and we need to stand by the right of free speech. That said, no one should ever buy one more copy of the Post, period. What good would an apology do, since the statement has already been made? We know what their intent was, and we should repudiate it right now and don’t look back. We do not make lynching jokes in this country, or Holocaust jokes, whatever hateful feelings people may harbor in their private souls. They’re just not funny.

Couple of things:
Report thisWho is the dude who wrote drew this cartoon?
Who are the Editors who let it go into print?
Who are the people who buy the NYP?
Answer: They are all the same. Close minded, low class, woefully misguided, racist republicans who chose a path of ignorance over intelligence. Its no surprise a racist propaganda tool thinly veiled as political commentary was printed on this rag of filth. No one in there right mind works there or reads it!

If this cartoon was actually “meant to mock an ineptly written federal stimulus bill,” it was without a doubt a very inept effort, which is why I think so many people are questioning the cartoonist’s intent.

APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED!!!!!
Report thisWhoever wrote that lame ass so called ‘apology’ can go screw themselves.
That crap was equal to the shit they print in the rest of that Rag - the National Enquirer, jsut with a different header. Reason I don’t waste my money- just something to laugh at while waiting in the grocery line. Wall Street Journal should think about changing their Product placement too- they could claim a higher readership then. That family should go after Murdock fro Breach of Contract- didn’t it stipulate maintaining the WSJ Integrity? You got Shafted, and so did your readership.
But this ‘Sorry you Feel that way’ excuse of an apology should be shoved right back down their throats!
It wasn’t just Racist or sexist- it was an Innuendo about Political Assasination. And with the people who actually read the NYP and the Lunatics who populate the Repug Party- that is Reckless endangerment- With Forethought and malice.
Come on these socio paths bomb clinics, the Olympics, shot Docs, open fire in churches, leave people to die on fence posts in WY, Drag others behind their Pick up Trucks!!!These people are seriously Unbalanced, and violent.Proven to be a Clear and present danger to society and our Public servants.
Anything, I mean anything threatens Pres Obama or Speaker Pelosi, Murdock and his employees should be co Defendants in that Trial! Could they have possibly put a match any closer to an Unstable Powder keg?I think Not.
The Repugs have jacked the psychotic element up for decades with their fear & hate mongering, it’s time they face legal responiblity for their actions and the Well foreseen Results.

If not motivated by racial tendencies, then an extreme lack of good judgment by the Post. Either way, their pathetic response “cloaked” as an apology is simply ridiculous. The Post should forthwith respond with a “real” apology that as well shows that they understand that this type of visual imaging and what it “clearly” shows it is trying to say…..should not and will not be tolerated in our country. There lack of understanding the vileness of what the cartoon “clearly” is saying, and allowing the cartoon be printed is simply despicable.

What a conservative newspaper like The New York Post in a liberal city like NYC any way? Run them out of town by boycotting their newspaper and advertisers.

They shouldn’t only boycott the Post, they should also go after the advertisers. I’ve been boycotting that filthy rag ever since slimeball Rupert Murdoch took it over and turned it into a propaganda sheet aimed at lower IQs, racists, and the incredibly gullible and willfully misinformed.
