Colbert Turns O’Reilly Against HimselfPosted on Jan 29, 2009
Bill O’Reilly must be some kind of highly dedicated comedian who has managed to fool the country with a series of elaborate Andy Kaufman-esque stunts. How else to explain moments like this, exquisitely captured by Stephen Colbert, when the “Factor” host unintentionally ridicules himself ad absurdum? Oh, I know…all the right-wingers would claim Colbert’s “interview” is unfair because he uses previous statements to “trap” O’Really? into making a fool of himself.
Too bad Mainstream Corporate Media doesn’t do this. Instead, they sit there listening to O’Really? and never throw his lies and errors back in his face. Result: O’Really?, Hannity/Insanity, and Beck are taken seriously instead of laughed off the air.

Anybody who actually believes this was an interview is way beyond stupid.

If you watch closely you’ll see that it’s not a “live” interview with Bill-O but rather expertly edited clips put together like a running conversation. Note that Bill uncharacteristically stops talking after each sentence, instead of bloviating over Colbert’s follow up questions. It’s hilarious and so well done. This is an extension of the Daily Show’s familiar and very useful method of exposing hypocrisy by showing clips of contradictory statements juxtaposed, but stringing the bits together like this reveals the level of cognitive dissonance required if one were to take this clown seriously.

Somehow even in the midst of a “credible” report, Bill O’Reilly makes an ass of himself as seen in this piece.
Report thisStephen Colbert, can and does work rings around the “bloviator” and he does it suavely and with panache.
I used to think that Colbert was just another person taking up airtime, but I have come to enjoy the ongoing “feud” between BillO” and Colbert. And Colbert seems to be winning the war of words, the battle of ideas and the use of tape to make his points.
Thank you Stephen Colbert for your adroit and sensible use of the airwaves to expose the bloviation and hot-air, coming from those of the Far Right Wing Nut persuasion.
