‘SNL’s’ Spiked Emanuel SkitPosted on Nov 24, 2008
Is it safe to mock Barack Obama’s chief of staff yet? Will it ever be? What could be the explanation as to why Andy Samberg’s impersonation of Rahm Emanuel didn’t make it onto last weekend’s “Saturday Night Live” lineup? So many questions. At least he won’t be in Congress any more.
God, I hope they don’t replace him with another Israel-for-brains hack. Emanuel supported the Iraq war and did what he could to sabotage all the real antiwar candidates in the Democratic primaries. People like him made sure that even Jimmy Carter wasn’t allowed to speak at the Democratic convention. People like Emanuel are the reason why Obama, as soon as he got the nomination, went groveling to AIPAC, promising to hate Iran more murderously than anybody else. I’m so sick of this “bipartisan” consensus dictated to us from Tel Aviv.

Doc,
None of that is much of a secret. It’s been all over the MSM…not least of which his public apology for his Dad’s wacky diatribe. But, how many legislators do you think owe AIPAC for contribtions? There are alot of Israel supporters in this country on the left and the right. I think that you can’t have an effective US policy with regard to Israel without having these people at the table. I imagine Obama has no illusions that Rahm is one of their most vocal and influencial members. So where would you put him? He doesn’t go away if you ignore him. He would be practically running the house.
For the record, I don’t think Israel’s creation was a very good idea; western hubris at it’s worst. But that’s not a bell you can unring. For better or worse there it is. And for better or worse US/Israeli interests have not been separate affairs for forty years. If that’s ever going to change we’re going to need to see an an end to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Keeping that conflict going has served the interests of hardliners in Israel and neocons here. But the world wants to see an end to it. I don’t see how you can get there from here without geting the parties to the table. Maybe with pitbulls like Emanuel and Clinton in Barack’s corner we can get that done.
And if you seriously believe that about Bush I’d like to hear more about how you came to that conclusion. How do you see an Obama Israeli policy being worse than Bush?

The reason it isn’t funny is simply because Rahm isn’t particularly funny. A little scary perhaps, but certainly not funny.
(Any accurate depiction of the man, even in the context of a comedy skit, could spell trouble for Obama in his attempt to keep us all in a perpetual state of ecstatic hypnosis.)
Report thisWe surely can’t have any of that.

I suspect it didn’t air because it isn’t funny.
In other words, it’s like the rest of SNL.

Perhaps it was spiked just because… it wasn’t funny. Imagine that. What a concept.

... At least I doubt that was the reason. The gratuitous references to politically motivated violence within the context of actual violent political tensions simmering just beneath the surface, and a record number of recorded threats against any President-Elect are most likely the reasons this skit was cut - and rightfully so.
