Thanks to Barack Obama’s victory, the “Real Time” host says he takes back every bad thing he ever said about America, a country he likens to Jessica Simpson. We’ll let him explain that one.

It stands to reason you would like Maher since your idea of commentary or discussion is simply to replay what you said, “up yours?”  That sounds about right for a fan of this loser.

I’m truly disgusted by the hatred and venom spewed by the likes of truth diggers who despise Bill Maher. He’s one of the sharpest political comedians on the scene today and no one compares!!

I don’t agree with everything Maher advocates but I certainly welcome his no BS approach to discussing the issues. The fact is, to entertain, one requires a loudmouth, as it goes with the line of work!  Maher is a loudmouth and many on truthdig don’t respect his line of work. Well, I do!  And I do so because Maher is entertaining, intelligent, provocative and I agree with the majority of his politics. Up yours to those who despise him!

Hatred and venom?  I don’t see much of that, for the most part, he’s irrelevant.  Your accolades hardly fit him though as he plays to a pretty small audience with zero competition.  He is no Lenny Bruce, or even in the same epoch that’s for sure, not even up to Mort Sahl in his day.  He lacks polish or good writing most of the time.  And every time he does get a laugh, he can’t stop himself from aggrandizing himself and laughing at his own jokes which is the kiss of death and taking too much credit.  That sort of comedy needs to be dried out to be really effective and to have the edge.  He just doesn’t cut it for me.

Andrew Sullivan was on Real Time with Bill Maher this season. Andrew’s always a great guest. Sad that people cant get the sarcastic nature of his final new rule. Bad times.

As an American who left the states during and due to the Bush regime I remain damn glad I split. Living in France has it’s drawbacks but it’s a very tangible improvement over the life I left behind (though there is an embarrassing Obama based euphoria in the media at the moment). The U.S. is on the wrong path in myriad ways and the recent electoral turn of events are no reason for optimism. Just take a look at Mr. Obama’s chosen coterie; Rahm Emanuel is a potent reminder that neoconservatism has it’s roots in the Democratic party and Albright, Ross, Rubin and Summers are not exactly change I, for one, can believe in. Maher is and has always been an extremely shallow political commentator. Pablum.

Old Michigan saying during the last exodus of the ‘70’s would have become the new Aemrican Adage had McCain stolen the election.
Loved Mahrs’ segment on where to move if that happened. Granted Canada would have been the closest escape route, but cos tof living is still high. Mexico offers cheap living expenses, because they have no jobs. I heard if you could prove You are of Irish heritage you could get citizenship. That seemed to hold some promise.
It’s not just the Senile, war mongering Mac which would cause a mass evacuation, but the fact he is such a Whore, He’d have made Hagee Sec of Defense.
The Evalgelicals have Crowned themselves the Catholic Church for the new millenia, ready and eager for the New Inquistion. Has anyone Tried to expalin to them their attempts to oppress and persecute those not of their faith is not only heretical, but Anti American. Most came here not only to escape the Monarchial ‘Trickle Down’ economic oppresion, but the tyrannical and Immoral Religions- like Catholism and Protestantism. Just because You call yourselves ‘Evangleicals’ or Born Agains does not disguise your Intentions or goals. Americans Will Not be subjugated to Any Religious Doctrine- It goes against our founding Principles! Don’t like it ...Move to Afghanistan and join the Taliban, you already have so much in common!
Let’s call these assholes what they are…Self serving, self centered arrogant Heretics. These groups are Working way above their Pay Grade- passing judgement on other, deciding who is Worthy of Redemption or salvation and who is not….Hell they even have the ‘End of Days’ all planned out…Apparently God is not Working fast enough for their liking.
McCains little song ‘Bomb bomb bomb Iran’ must have given Hagee a hard on! And that Dumbass, two faced Traitor would have let him have his way by Pre-emptively striking Irna for No Legitmate Reason- except to kick off Hagge’s delusion of Granduer Armegeddon scheme.
So Ya if Mac had ended up th ewinner (by hook or crook)I’d have been looking for a New nationality.
Really how much closer to the English monarchy and papal Rule could the Repugnants caused then ‘Trickle Down ’ and the unbridled influence of these Zealots?
Shit that’ sexactly the reason this country was Founded to End such atrocities to humanity.Mac would be King and Hagge the Pope. Talk about a Close Call for the Free Market and Democracy in America. Man we dodged that bullet (or should I say Nuclear War head)

Maher’s habit of laughing at his own jokes makes me sick.  I can’t watch this guy as he can’t seem to get over how “funny” he thinks he is.  His delivery is amateurish and his ideas stolen without the grace they need to be relevant.  If you wanted someone to make the left look bad, this guy is the one.

My take on Bill Mahr is that he is not nearly the sophisticated intellectual he thinks he is.  He has no tolerance for the views of others and seeks to belittle anyone who disagrees with him.  Andrew Sullivan was able to put him in his place a few times.  Perhaps that’s why I haven’t seen him on Bill’s show this season.

I like the disclaimer, “Now I might regret this, it’s kind of like going grocery shopping when you’re high”

Good stuff.

I wouldn’t put it q-u-i-t-e where Maher put it, just the same, you can’t deny the WELCOME “change” from Bush to Obama.  Christ… it’s like moving from Siberia to the South of France.  Of course, I can’t see Siberia from my house so I’m obviously not as well “traveled” as others, but still….

Actually, I’ve never been to Siberia or the South of France, but I’ve seen the pictures….LOL.  But I can still “hope”.... that one day I’ll find myself strapped to the bottom of an airliner at LEAST headed in the direction of Europe.  And I seriously “hope” that that’s NOT what Obama means by “hope”....?

So… Is anyone else still thinking about those deep-fried ice cream bars drenched in chocolate syrup, made with cookies…?

Hope Bill is reading this…

You mixed up our head of Government with the Head of State - who may be the Queen of England but has her representative, a black, Hatian-born lady - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada (soon coming to a Central European Country near you)

http://www.gg.ca/menu_e.asp

Yup, she’s the one who signs off on our laws, giving “royal assent” to the bills that make it through Parliament.

OK, so the GG is chosen by the Prime Minister, which makes her more like a cross between Medvedev and Beatrix than Sarkozy and Obama.

But still…

Usually Mahr goes too far but I thought this was really good. The guy’s totally right for once. This is a bright and shining moment in America’s history that EVERYONE can and should enjoy it, regardless of political leanings. Lighten up, Paracelsus, the honeymoon will soon be over.

I acknowledged that he had validly complained about the GW Bush administration, but I have the feeling he is not going to complain about Democrats committing acts of moral turpitude while they are in power. It seems that the best way to put liberals to sleep to corruption is to put the Dems in office. I can see free trade treaties being passed willy nilly while they go wild with their own imperialistic adventures. I can see Maher acting ignorant for the next 4 years. A real waste of skin.
