Shock!: Olbermann Doesn’t VotePosted on Nov 10, 2008
MSNBC’s pugnacious pundit Keith Olbermann dropped in on “The View” on Monday, where he rattled his gaggle of lady-hosts with his announcement that he doesn’t vote as a “symbolic gesture.” Hold on to your mug there, Keith! Melanie, everyone has a right to a political opinion. Always. No matter what you think about how or if they vote.
Pat, is it possible that not voting telegraphs disrespect for our most undemocratic electoral process?
Report thisThere is a movement not to vote until we vote in truly democratic elections that don’t include barriers to the ballot and the weighting of our opinions based on the state we live in.

It is valid not to vote, especially not to vote in presidential elections since we have such a rigged, money-based, entrenched, media-controlled, anti-democratic system that deprives people of real choices and real democracy, and is subject to manipulation.

Sorry, this part didn’t make my original post:
These legal requirements all help to ensure that fraud or malpractice can be traced if need be, while at the same time ensuring the secrecy of your vote. They ensure
that the voting official knows exactly how many and which ballot papers have been issued to each polling station; if any false ballot papers were introduced at the polling station or count, they could be identified.
Report thisthat an Election Court could investigate alledged cases of fraud and decide which votes should be allowed or disallowed; a court order is necessary before the sealed containers can be opened.
Due to the above reasons, the ballot is secret and no-one should be concerned that their vote will be traced.

Purplewolf…
It IS done mostly by exit polls. By law, votes can only be opened on the order of an election court, where a case of malpractice or fraud is being pursued. The documents are destroyed after a period of time that is laid down by law.
Whether or not the laws is followed is anyone’s guess, but I believe they are. If i didn’t I might as well move to a dictatorship.

Some people who participate in religion do not vote as their branch of religion believes in not voting. I do not feel that this is the reason Keith does not vote however.
Some people don’t vote as they no longer believe in the system after two stolen elections and dishonesty in which votes are counted and also the Diebolt and other voting machines that can be and have been hacked and altered to throw the elections.
Jeremy Keith Hammond:
Report thisAs for your vote being secret. Not really. How do you think they know how many people of different races vote on certain issues or for which people to elect. It is not from exit polls. When you go to the voting polls you fill out a form with your name, address etc., then once they decide you are actually you, the next step is the register book which lists your name, address and there is a spot where a poll worker registers a ballot number-next to your name, real secret right, then they hand you that ballot. That ballot number can be traced right back to you, so just why do people think their vote is secret? Is it because the talking heads tell you so. Well guess what it isn’t. I have been voting since the 1970’s and it never ceases to amaze me that the sheeple can still believe their votes are secret, if that were true there would be NO NUMBERS on the ballots next to your name or on the ballots they hand out at all. DUH!

He covered his View appearance last night on Countdown, but the voting issue - and explanation - was conspicuously left out. Guess it is his right to privacy, but who knows? Maybe he has a valid rationalization.

There are some - however few - reasonable reasons not to vote but to say he wanted to appear objective as a journalist is just silly. They’re SECRET ballots, Olbermann.

That show is the epitome of all that is the worst in us as human beings.
But what would we expect from a former Survivor show participant?
Report thisI only watched because I like Olberman.
A mistake to think they would let him talk.
Real change in our country will have come when this show is so unpopular it is cancelled.

Vote, dude!
Not to do so telegraphs disrespect for our most fundamental right under the Constitution.
(Here I toss a ball of paper at the screen which shatters into a million pieces!)

I really respected Olberman’s opinions up until today. Everything he has ever said has been nullified by the fact that he does not vote. There is no justification for this kind of “symbolic gesture”. Time for a new vocation Keith. You no longer have the right to political opinions.

It wouldn’t been interesting to hear Olbermann’s reasoning for not voting, and what exactly his “symbolic gesture” is gesturing. Thanks goodness the hostesses let him explain himself…
