Alec Baldwin on Sarah ‘Bible Spice’ Palin

Posted on Oct 30, 2008

After so many years on television, David Letterman knows a headline-worthy quote when he hears one, and he clearly thinks Alec Baldwin’s nickname for Sarah Palin, “Bible Spice,” makes the cut in this clip from Wednesday night’s “Late Show.”

Brava!  As a minister, I want to sat that that is one of the best, clearest, most correct and concise assessments I have seen almost anywhere of the “truth” of Christianity versus what it has become after being misstated, co-opted and/or hijacked by such as those in the so-called Christian Right (which, like the Moral Majority before, is neither), few of whom would know Jesus if He bit them on the ear.

I am personally saddened by what has happened with Stephen, since he and I were friends many years ago (before his conversion), and he was very much a liberal democrat at the time.  My guess is that whoever has been “guiding” him since his being “born again” (i.e., his pastor, etc.) is as clueless as to the “truth” of Christianity as you describe it, as so many others are.

Thanks for your important and instructive history lesson.

Dear Bible Spice and Stephen Baldwin,

Jesus was NEVER a Christian.

The term ‘Christian’ was not even coined until the days of Paul, about 3 decades after Jesus/The Prince of Peace-who promised it is the peacemakers who are the children of God-walked the earth a man.

2,000 years ago The Cross had NO symbolic religious meaning and was not a piece of jewelry.

When JC said: “Pick up your cross and follow me” everyone THEN understood he was issuing a POLITICAL statement, for the main roads in Jerusalem were lined with crucified agitators, rebels, dissidents and any who disturbed the status quo of the Roman Empire and Military Occupying Forces.

Jesus, while never a Christian, was a social, justice, radical revolutionary Palestinian devout Jewish road warrior who rose up against the corrupt Temple authorities and challenged their job security by teaching the people they did NOT need to pay the priests for ritual baths or sacrificing livestock to be OK with God; for God LOVED them just as they were:

Sinners, poor, diseased, outcasts, widows, orphans, refugees and prisoners all living under the Roman Empire and Military Occupation.

What got JC crucified was disturbing the status quo of the Roman Empire and Occupying Forces by teaching the subversive concept that God preferred the humble sinner, the poor, diseased, outcasts, widows, orphans, refugees and prisoners all living under the Roman Empire and Military Occupation above the elite and arrogant.

The early followers and lovers of Jesus were called members of THE WAY-being THE WAY he taught one should be; NONVIOLENT.

We Christians have been warned NOT to judge the nonbeliever but to provoke the believer onto good works.

We Christians have also been warned that on the Day of Judgment there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth by those who were so sure they were in-because they get left out.

“What does God require? He has told you o’man! Be just, be merciful, and walk humbly with your Lord.” -Micah 6:8

From one of the other clips on this video, mcpalin is stupid. Too many people realize taxes will have to be raised to pay for the last 8 years of w & dick, or maybe a national lottery would suffice. If the money is NOT raised somehow will it just be an easy task to look at your children and grandchildren and tell them because we, the people, the politicans, the corporations, have ALL acted irresponsibly the past 8 years, they will be left holding the bag to pay for our excesses.
I personally believe that the rich and any american corporation that has fled america to avoid taxes, should bare the total weight of paying off this debt. Otherwise, we the people by default accept the condition that whatever debt is incurred, we the taxpayers are liable for paying for it, along with our children and grandchildren just to keep a few so called ‘elite’ from being put out by forking over their fair share which is most of the debt.

Some bloggers have been calling her Bible Spice for some time. It’s good to know that people are reading the blogs.

“Bible Spice!” That’s rich beyond rich-dom. Dang, I wish I’d thought of that.
