What’s Racist About ‘Obama Bucks’?Posted on Oct 17, 2008
Uh, in what way does putting Barack Obama on a food stamp mock-up, surrounded by fried chicken, ribs and watermelon, not read as racist? Well, Diane Fedele, the Chaffey Community Republican Women of California member who unwisely decided to include the “Obama Bucks” image on the organization’s newsletter, insists it isn’t at all racially problematic. However, as television station KCAL’s Kristine Lazar discovered on Friday, two members of the Chaffey women’s group don’t agree with Fedele’s take on the “Obama Bucks” image, even if Fedele’s husband and daughter defiantly defend her perspective. Also see Gawker’s collection of alarming anti-Obama jokes and images here. Hi, Michael. I’m live in adjoining Ontario, myself. We’re a little more Democratic down here than those snotty Republican Uplanders, and the pigs are a little less piggish in this town, but ain’t the Inland Empire Great!

Hello, I am from Upland. Wow… Finally we are on the map. Damn it took a long time. Just so proud of my redneck, white trash, intolerant city. I mean, this IS the heartland. (not sure where the heart is though) I grew up thinking like this, and not until I moved away did I see the errors of my ways. Take the blinders off Uplanders!!! You are nice American people. Let’s take it to the next level and rid yourself of the racism that is blocking you from become responsible Humans who actually believe in and live the teachings of Jesus, and not the racist rhetoric of your/our community.
Report thisAnd… if you are saying to yourself, “If Obama wins the election then I am getting out of America!!” Then I say to you that you don’t love your country enough. To bend so easily when defeated would show you are weak. I mean, you guys are the ones who voted Bush in TWICE, and look where that got us. So, morally, you should all refrain from voting as you guys suck at picking a good leader.

Oops, I somehow got the idea that it was a black Republican woman had put this thing out. My mistake. That makes more sense at least. The black Republican woman was the one who cried for 45 minutes. I trust she will now switch parties.

It’s really something that a black woman would not see any racial connotations in this cartoon. It’s just food to her, she says. Amazing! Maybe it’s true. She just likes watermellon and that Col. Sanders chicken with the eleven secret herbs and spices. It reminds me of a Dave Chapelle skit, where he is eating chicken in a Col. Sanders and he imagines everyone thinking “Look at him! He loves it!” After that, he says he had always thought he loved chicken because it was delicious, but now he realizes he must have some sort of genetic predisposition for it.
Besides, you can’t trust the Colonel. No white man could understand about those eleven secret herbs and spices. It was slaves made that chicken!

“Please, racism isn’t confined to white and black. It is by definition- a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others. So in actually, it could be between black and hispanic or asian and italian. I believe that the woman figured she could slide that in and nobody would notice.”
~~~
THANK YOU CS Jones, for this excellent definition. I could go on, but this is certainly enough.
If only, if only, if only…we could stomp out IGNORANCE!! I swear it is more deadly than every other cancer in the world.
It’s hard to know if the woman actually thought she could ‘slip that in’ and not have it be noticed. Even now, and after pondering such questions for a lifetime, I don’t know if SHE’S really that ignorant, of if she thinks everybody else is. Maybe they are one and the same.
God I hate ignornace.
I saw the comment from the head of this Republican women’s group, saying she had no idea this was racist, and to her, they are just food items. Her comment is so despicable, and so insulting to anyone with a brain. Does she really expect anyone to believe they just accidentally, out of all food items, chose racist symbols to put down Obama? Not only is she disgusting for what she did, but for what she said as well. Republicans continue to show themselves as racist, bigoted, fear/hate mongers, who have no respect for the intelligence of their fellow Americans. These hateful Republicans, more than anyone, are showing the world it is truly time for a change.
Dude…
Report thisthis election is scary!!! This is starting to look like good verses evil…
All this hate speech that is starting to come from the audience of Palin and McCain is scaring me!!! Next thing we know they might start carrying torches at night, wearing white masks screaming “savages”!!!! like in Pochahontas. I just want it to end. U know, this shouldn’t be a fight between the two candidates. We should be fighting against the government…which has lied to us from the gate. They are the reall savages. I’m sorry to say, but we need an all out civil war!!! We need to rebel.
What are these people thinking, it is despicable, I am seriously seeing the true colors of these US voters. They disgrace all of us, starting from the MCcain rallies which are starting to seem more like Klan meets than anything vaguely resembling a political event. THis says a lot for the state of Race relations in this country, I think even if Obama doesnt win next month he has at least helped to bring these things to the surface, even then given USA’s constant refusal to face their own demons it’ll just get forgotten. But this is just horrible.
Why are Republicans still stuck in 1950’s America thinking it’s okay for white Americans to be this openly racist? There is NO mistaking it, the “Obama Bucks” is as racist as it comes using every conceivable racist cliche to portray Obama on this despicable Republican piece.
But racists are cowards as well when called upon their blatant racism by defending - actually DEFENDING - their deplorable, anti-American, KKK antics.
This is disgusting.
ANYONE ELSE SEE THIS FLOATING ABOUT THE WWW?
How Racism Works:
What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?
What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was divorced?
What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after she was severely disfigured in a car accident?
What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?
What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain had graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)
What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
What if Obama couldn’t read from a teleprompter?
What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?
What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?
What if Michelle Obama’s family had made their money from beer distribution?
What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?
You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are? This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.
So let’s consider some other stuff like educational backgrounds:
Barack Obama:
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude
Joseph Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science.
Syracuse University, College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)
John McCain:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899
Sarah Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester
University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in Journalism
Education isn’t everything, but this is about the two highest offices in the land as well as our standing in the world.
I’m African-American and when I saw the “Obama Bucks” picture I became very silent. I was thinking to myself that in 2008 we still have folks that are just ignorant. I saw the interview with the daughter of the woman responsible. She claims that how could her mother be labeled as racist when her mother’s husband is Mexican. Please, racism isn’t confined to white and black. It is by definition- a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others. So in actually, it could be between black and hispanic or asian and italian. I believe that the woman figured she could slide that in and nobody would notice. I hope she wakes up and apolgizes. I also believe for only two of the women in the club to be offended that says a bunch about the club’s remaining members.
Moose-elini/McShame will TRY ANY DIRTY TRICK[including PURCHASING the votes of the ELECTORALS] if it will place him in to POWER-then if he were NOT ABLE TO DO HIS JOB-she-and her “I can see russia” mentality would have her “finger on the buttons”....DOES SHE HAVE THE INTELLIGENCE TO NOT PUSH IT?[I-personally-DO NOT THINK SO]
