John McCain, WTF?
youtube.com

John McCain does. This hilarious YouTube clip, from a documentary filmmaker, gets at the heart of the disparity between the realities of working folk and the politicians who claim they are “friends” with the American people. (Alert: salty language.)

Seems about right.  The top 1% realize about $1000/week from the Bush tax cuts - to be extended by McCain - while the rest of us realize about $1.50/week.  We poorer folk need the cleaning jobs to stay alive and Bush/McCain are kind enough to make sure there are rich folks to provide them.

Magnanimity thy name is Republican.

Troublesum

Cindy McCain s in top “One percent”
Her 2006 Tax returns show 6.1 million
As an heiress to the largest brewery with 13 homes and 11 cars. The McCains are rich.

As for the Obamas. I know engineer couples in CA that make more than 991,000 a year. Hell, my stepfather an Aerospace Engineer makes 500k.
They are well to do EDUCATED people with good jobs.
The Presidential Salary is $400k plus 50k expences

Why would anyone with an excellent education, a chance to make much more in the private district.
Take on a low paying job like the President?

Unless they had a history of public service like the Obama’s.

Or some old man with only 3 words in his vocabulary
A noun a verb and Hero.

Before you get down on me. I did my time and was paralyzed from the chest down in Vietnam. Yes Johns a hero. But there are fields of dead heros and millions living in the streets in cardboard boxes

The true measure of a true Hero is humility.

You don’t mention it in every conversation or to get gain from it.

Besides the real heroes were fighting on the ground. Not dropping bombs from 30,000 feet on rice patties. Then expecting a heroes welcome when shot down in the backyards of the people you bombed daily.

No, Troublesum. In your limited world. You may think 991k a year for a family of 4 is rich.

But even paralyzed I make 6 figures a year.
I’m college educated thanks to my G.I. Bill. The same Veterans benefits McCain votted no

Because, they don’t matter. Not at this moment. Great ideals, though. But if they swing the election to McCain/Palin they should just jump off the Golden Gate Bridge before the nets are attached. Sorry, that’s my view. I appreciate what they say, but think their time is really not now.

WHY are Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinny being vastly ignored by the majority of the American people?

I don’t think many people realize that the Obama’s are in the top 5% income bracket.

~~~~~~~
Troublesum, if you really believe this statistic, (top 5% income bracket) you are even dumber than I thought.
Oprah Winfrey is in the top 5%, not the Obama’s. They just finished paying off student loans a few years ago, and that’s because they’ve done better than most of us. I’ll still be paying off my student loans until I’m 74 years old.
I find it incredibly interesting that all these “folks” esp politicians have supposedly “best sellers” and rake in millions when no one I have ever met & many others have ever even read their book. Quite simply a way to “launder money”; read the other day that the Mafia is no more; that’s because they are now our “leaders”; criminals & crooks; think not for a second that the “financial” or “housing” crisis came about without long term preplanned & carried out warfare against the people of the USA by our Gov, working with Corps; read Lou Dobb’s book “war on the American dream”; read “license to steal” about Wall STreet; all done with full knowledge & approval by the “political” parties in the USA; indeed they are all operating outside of the laws of the USA, Congress many times, international law, & laundering $ like you would not even believe. Nice to know that the Pentagon sent around memo’s for it’s folks not to use the $1000 an hour prostitutes while it’s “election” year: while disabled vets from Iraq & Afghanistan have yet to receive a cent huh.
The Obamas do well, but it’s absurd to imply they are in the same economic class.  You can’t compare $1 million with $100 million.  Different worlds completely.  And, as other posters have noted, Barack and Michelle followed the American Dream and worked their way into it. McCain was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and married a silver shovel.
Number of times McCain and Obama have spoken the words “working class” in their two year campaigns:0
My point is that neither McCain nor Obama cares about people like the ones in the video.  Wake up!
McCain is rich because he was born into it. The Obamas are rich because his book sold like hotcakes and they are successful lawyers. It wasn’t that long ago that the Obama family was doing their own laundry. McCain---no. Maid’s work. Big difference.
By Big B, October 10 at 1:42 pm #
I still do the laundry, while my wife does most of the cooking. And we would both gleefully give up those arduous tasks if we made 900K a year!
Shit, who wouldn’t?
Don’t fault someone for being rich. Fault them for acting like assholes because they are fortunate enough to be rich.
If you read the wiki article you will find that the Obama’s INCOME for 2006 was $991,000.  That was my point - most people are not aware that the Obamas and McCains are in the economic class.
You are confused.  The Obama’s net worth was ~1mil in 2006, not income.  There is a BIG difference.
The point is, each year the McCains spend more on ‘domestic help’ than >99% of families earn.
“Elitist” indeed.
It doesn’t matter if they are in the top 5% of household income.  They didn’t spend 1/4 of their income on house staff.  They are wealthy lawyers.  You can’t really get to be president without being wealthy.  It’s when you can’t remember how many houses you own that you are seriously out of touch.
The Obama’s had a combined income of $991,000 in 2006.  They probably have household help.
