Last week marked the official debut of Sarah Palin, now John McCain’s running mate, at the Republican National Convention—not to mention the Alaska governor’s introduction to most of the country. How do her accomplishments stack up? Will she be, as “LRC” co-host Tony Blankley wonders, “gold dust or Kryptonite” for the McCain campaign?

It’s definitely time to arm ourselves, not for moose, but for barracuda or pit bull or some such menacing carnivorous life form. I think we have been surprised by this Republican move and have not yet figured out how to respond. This article from the Huffington Post should help. Please read it.

For the record, nearly twice as many folks identified with Obama at DemCon than Miss Congeniality at NaziCon.

You actually think a star was born because Karl Rove selected a little know twit months back when he was so certain that Barack HUSSEIN Obama was absolutely positively going to put Hillary Clinton on his ticket if he had a satanist’s chance of testafying in a Baptist brush arbor of even losing respectably.

You are starstruck by a candidate intended to combat a competitor who is no longer in the race based on the predictions of some rotund pinhead, whose most recent flagrant misuse of his defective leaky magic 8-ball lost his party solid majorities in both Congress and the Senate, who really ought to be in jail for contempt of Congress, instead of raising hell through LIES on Faux Noise.

I don’t know which I find to be more stunning, Rove’s lies or the idiots who, after 8 horrific years of Dumya and Cheney, still listen to and believe Rove’s lies.

You want to attack Obama for being a community organizer, and slander the good work and reputation of ACORN, but conveniently fail to mention that Palin was a member in good standing in a 527 successionist group that wants to take the State of Alaska out the union of the United States of America.

You want to call Obama an elistist only because you are too lazy to look up the real meaning of the word.

McCain is the son and grandson of prominant affluent Admirals in the US Navy.

Right now, he’s in an adulterous marriage to a beer fortune. Gramps is so wealthy and privileged until he can afford to lose, along with his mind, count of how many homes he and botoxed beer baroness Barbie are staffing with a full completment of servants.

Sarah Louise Heath Palin is an hier to one of the largest candy fortunes on earth.

Yet, Obama, raised by a single mom on welfare in public housing, who only recently paid off his and Michelle’s student loans for college, is an elitist whom you can’t understand.

You’re not only lazy, but willfully ignorant.

Obviously, for you, believing the worst and most ridiculous crap put out about Obama is easier than accepting the truth about the ticket of deceit and hypocrisy. I bet you’re too poor to even qualify to be a ReThugniCon.

You’re probably worse off now than you’ve ever been since birth, but you still long to have a beer with Dumya. You’re among those who would think you’re doing a great work for God to crucify His Son Jesus, another unappreciated Community Organizer Who esteemed and loved the poor, but failed to square up with Dr. Dobson’s talking points. IDIOT!

Well, here’s a news flash - Sarah Louise Heath Palin is not a star. She’s not even a waning ball of gas near whom a match as been struck. She’s just another fading Rethunicon fart joke under investigation for abuse of power. If Gramps weren’t so stubborn, she’d be gone by now.

That notwithstanding, Biden is going to end her career in a way that I pray doesn’t drive her to take her life. After all, she’s Biden’s lunch.

Palin’s only reference to Obama is to destractively shield that craven old Navy pussy cowering in the pleats of her skirt until Obama calls the old coot out for the debates!

For Palin to be famous for that is a harsh blow to the ascent of women EVERYWHERE!

Yes the Governor of Alaska is some kind of loon. Saw a repeat of the November 2, 2006, television governor’s debate, where Sarah Palin distinguished herself by sitting between two male political hacks, where they basically agreed with one another on local issues, which mostly revolves around who gets to cut up the big revenue oil pie.
It is downright ridiculous to try and make Alaska on the cutting edge of anything. The GOP operatives try to bundle hot air, claiming that Alaska is an essential part of the all important foreign policy front, because of its close proximity to Russia.
No, despite the vast tract of land, Alaska is a sparsely populated place where politics, because of this size, is all local and very petty. This is where Sarah Palin cut her political chops.
The Republicans choosing her reveals what utter contempt they have for the American people in general.

beerdoctor,

Motivated by your question, I just tried to find some sort of confirmation (like a family tree of sorts) regarding Sarah Palin nee Heath connection. Aside from Heath being her maiden name, I couldn’t find anything else that I would take as a confirmation.

That doesn’t mean it isn’t there. *I* just didn’t happen to find anything.

So, I guess we don’t know for sure. Just the same last name doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

Now of course I don’t really much care if she’s a candy heiress or not. She’s insane, and that’s enough for me to wanna keep her as far away from our house as possible. If the Alaskan’s like her, then they can keep her there.

I don’t think all of them like her either though. Sort like how not all of us here in California like Schwartzie. Like, we don’t like him one damn bit!!

Your comment: “Is it more likely that Palin “stood up” to Big Oil or is it more likely that Big Oil owns her, has invested a billion to make her a popular governor and is now backing her along with McCain?”

I agree.  Why not “out” Ted Stevens and take his place….?  Let’s face it SOMEONE would have to take his place…right.  It’s a GREAT STORY of “standing up” to “big oil”.  That woman is bought and paid for.  In addition, she had her “connections”.  Doesn’t her husband work for BP.  Small world…small world.

Many of us who live in Alaska and are close to the issues know that the news for Palin can only get worse, since here first shot on the national stage was a complete fabrication of her resume and a lie. She is known as the queen of pok in Alaska and I would compare a pitbull to Palin by saying that a pitbull fights in a money pit and Palin fights for a money pit. She just gave every Alaskan a $1200 bonus on their PFD by gutting the state budget, additionally she suspended the states gas tax because that would bag higher ratings in the polls an besides, she can get the federal government through Ted, Don or Lisa to chip in any shortfall through new earmarks.

Seriously, much as this woman rubs me the wrong way in every way there is, I am sure Arianna is right and we should concentrate on the issues and avoid personalities. So, what about Palin’s relationship with Big Oil? She has a reputation for “standing up to the oil companies” and that she has managed to extract from them a subsidy of several thousand dollars for each of Alaska’some 600,000 citizens. As I saw Joe Biden asking, why isn’t this a “windfall profits tax” as advocated by Obama? To be consistent shouldn’t she favor a similar tax a the national level? That would be something like 300,000,000 times 3,000 = $900,000,000,000 or a almost a trillion dollars a year!

Is it more likely that Palin “stood up” to Big Oil or is it more likely that Big Oil owns her, has invested a billion to make her a popular governor and is now backing her along with McCain?

Robert Lee unregistered: Gee, seems like the bridge she was for, then wasn’t for, keeps getting pricier by the second. Would it not be more cost effective to build one with materials found in the environment, much like the indigenous peoples built bridges to get to the other side? It seems when ever a politician gets their nose into some project, one that could be done for $100,000.00 ends up costing millions, if not billions. Whatever happened to all the clearcut trees?

Like Bush said at the start of the Iraq was, he figured it would cost no more than 4 billion dollars from start to finish. My neighbor, a former Marine thought I was wrong and that it had to be millions and not billions of dollars for Bush’s war. No, we were both wrong its in the trillions.

Brenda-unregistered: I have read over 50 hours of info on this woman since her coming out. But I knew of her long ago and I don’t even live in her state. I am one of the people who feel animals are important and thus have funded wolf restoration for Wolfsong of Alaska, and my home state of Michigan. I educate the public on the truth and expose the lies that surround wolves. I do not appreciate some sadistic, bloodthirsty, indifferent person like her in political office, and especially not the W.H. If you think she would make a good V.P. or Pres. you need help, unless you do not mind being property of your spouse and your reproductive system the property of your government. She wants all mothers to home school their children, thus causing massive teacher pink slips, rollback science teachings and bring in creationism instead. American children are among the lowest scoring children among other children from countries who also educate their people. Many children cannot read or write upon graduation as it is. Now, if we take mothers, many who have these same deficiencies, we will continue to become a nation of dummies. Her personal religious beliefs are fine for her, but I do not want a person making rules for me to live my life by according to her religion dogma. What color burka would you like?

Holy Smoly Woahly!!!!

Let me repeat what Brenda writes here, obviously with a single clue to what she’s saying. This is spine chilling….

“Three weeks ago, (just 3 little weeks ago folks) NOBODY EVEN KNEW WHO SHE WAS!!”

Brenda, THAT’S the SCARY part!!!

Until 3 weeks ago, less than 1% of the population who will vote in less than two months, EVEN KNOW WHO SHE IS!! Why does that not ring some really LOUD alarm bells for you?

We’ve been completely sandbagged by the GOP, and none of this is even ABOUT Sarah Palin, aside from the potential puppet that would replace george jr. She can’t replace Cheney, because NOBODY can. He and Addington, and the rest of his secret staff would continue to pull the strings.

Now there ARE some Americans who knew her already, and it makes sense that they would be the residents of Alaska. Are you suggesting that they shouldn’t have ‘opinions’ based on what they KNOW? And are you suggesting that they shouldn’t tell the rest of us what they *know*?

I hope not. That’s part of the spilling chilling nature of your comment.

I don’t get what’s going on here. It’s just all too “Stepford Wiveish” come to life, and like I said, that is just TOO scary!!

As an Alaskan I know the difference between Palin and a pitbull. Pitbulls fight in the money pits and Palin fights for money pits in her district such as state owned dairy, Mat Maid. Just google Mat Maid to start educating yourself on Palin lies. Palin got where she is by mastering the are of both state and federal pork barrel. She, the queen of pork in Juneau is also the champion of the redundant bridge through nowhere to her district from Anchorage called the Knik Arm Bridge, the other bridge to nowhere. It is estimated to cost 3/4 billion dollars and rising. Oh yes, Palin added a $1200 bribe to every Alaskans PFD that will total $3200+ this year just to shut them up.

If you have read the Anne Kilkenny e-mail concerning Governor Palin, she reveals that, as someone who has known her and seen how she operates for a very long time, that people are fearful of speaking up about her, because they will wind up on Palin’s enemies list. This may be the reason why more of the fraud has not been exposed.

I come from a family of 8 children. My parents were Catholic and sweet and naive.

I was 7th and they should have stopped in my opinion after #4 to have been really good model parents. In the end, after we all grew up, my 80+ very religious parents came to believed in gay rights and more liberal family policies—especially after the child sexual abuse scandals that still plague the Christian fundamentalists and it became all too clear that the best of the 8 of us was gay and had a vey loving, supportive partner..

Experience led them to those beliefs. It is not always many years experience that can lead to progressive ideas, it can also be sensible and really challenging life experience which for some can be decided in shorter time frame if they get there.

Choosing family planning practices is a significant policy “change” for this country. I am a neophyte blogger—it seems a waste of time—am I right?

I haven’t liked her views since she underhandedly used a loop hole to allow aerial wolf kills. This is a person of God? who claims life is sacred, yet thinks nothing of killing creatures not to her liking as they get in the way of big oil.

She tried to fire a librarian as mayor of Wasilla because she would not censor certain books Ms.Palin didn’t approve of.Fired the supervisor of her brother-in-law because he would not fire him as he was going through a divorce with Palin’s sister. Those who have helped her attain her political goals have immediately been stabbed in the back by her. She fires anyone she has a problem with and doesn’t like, then surrounds herself with less capable workers who suck up to her totally.(This sounds very familiar, like the last 2 terms of the Bush)We do not need another rerun of that now do we?

Who says that Bristol will marry the alleged father of her baby,I haven’t heard him say so.I have seen his myspace page and his attitude about babies and his personal insight into what he is,a redneck who thinks that it is fine to kick their ass to anyone who gives him problems.Yep,a fine upstanding role model for a child to learn from.

Also about Sarah’s so called pregnancy with little Trig.If it is hers,as there was no doctor present at birth and no birth certificate. She didn’t show until the 7th month, did not tell friends and family until the 7th month and then suddenly had premature labor, water broke while giving a speech, yet she continued with her speech, all the while leaking and claiming to know the child was an at risk
pregnancy, premature,Downs syndrome, took 2 flights over 8 hours to reach Alaska and then drove the scenic route home to give birth. No airlines I know of would fly out a person in that condition unless she really wasn’t pregnant or lied about it to the airlines.Bet the person who cleaned her plane seat was mad. No,this tale is too far fetched to be true, but we should all know by now that a lie is easier to believe then the truth, just look at the Republican party,it is totally based on lies.

If this is a true event surrounding Trig’s birth, Sarah Palin needs to be arrested for reckless endangerment, child abuse and neglect just to start with and by failing to get to a hospital,as any sane woman would have done, she choose to put the child’s life at greater risk by her actions.Or maybe she was hoping something would happen to it,as I cannot see Sarah being able to accept a less than 100% perfect child.Besides she went back to work in 3 days. Sarah is such a caring mother! Her 18-year old son signed for the Iraq war Sarah “was not concentrated on.” Her 17-year old daughter is pregnant out of wedlock. Her premature baby (she was hopping airplanes while 8 months pregnant to be around the Oilmen in Dallas) was left to other people’s care since he was 3-day old. The woman is a heartless monster.
And is it true that Sarah Palin’s 18-year old son signed for Iraq because of a trouble with the law? Since she refuses to answer any questions, there is no other way but to ask the Internet users, if there is any truth in this Palin junior story, Iraq vs. jail?

This program is, if not the best, certainly one of the best political programs on radio. Now why is this not an hour is beyond me. There is no time in half a n hour to give Tony, Arianna and Robert a chance to discuss the issues well.

Furthermore, it is amazing to me that Tony just seems to accept that the Republicans are dishonest in their ways but politics is a game and they know how to win in it whatever way possible. I find this quite irresponsible and right down dangerous. The consequences of another 4 years of Republican crazy policies could destroy the US forever.

To claim that blue-collar women will identify with Palin is laughable…LOL.

How do people come up with these analogies..?  Blue-collar women mainly despise what they consider yuppity-yups of any kind.  And they especially hate the beauty queen, pit bull type (for that matter does anyone like them).  I’ve NEVER met a blue collar women who found these women to be “inspiring” to put it mildly. And yes, I’ve met a lot of blue-collar women. LOL

No… the reality is Palin will more likely attract the part-time working wives of successful men who identify with her, but most likely these are ALREADY McCain votes.  Having known a few fundamentalists in my day, I don’t think she’ll attract them either.  I think fundamentalist women will view her as one of the nasty Christian women whom they despise for her “questionable” good fortune. While fundamentalist men just don’t endorse women in positions of power.  Especially given the fact that McCain could die and SHE’D be in charge.  As for attracting Hillary supporters, all I can say is they MUST not read the comments here on TD.  Palin will lose more votes for McCain than she will gain.

BTW, just my two cents on why Republicans are so “successful”.  THEY LIE AND CHEAT.  That’s it.

Sure… some people are stupid enough to vote against themselves, but not THAT many.

McCain and the Republican party have unleashed an ego-maniac, extreme right-wing, religious zealot who has a horrible record of working well with anyone not to mention a platform that broke in half when her daughter (at 16) became pregnant.
She fires people who disagree with her and has run her offices like a dictator not an elected official. Let’s not forget that she is being investigated right now for another one of her ‘decisions’ based on what ‘she’ wants done.
This is not how our democracy operates.

McCain was the only Republican I could have voted for before choosing Palin. I thought he was independent, but he’s shown he too must kowtow to Rove’s religious right. McCain has always made his feelings of contempt known for that wing of the party dominating it for the past 25 years. Well, I will say, he’s given them a good poke in the eye now, and they have to embrace somebody they couldn’t stand. With all the very competent moderate Republican women to choose from, he found an evangelical Christian with a pregnant teenager, and my oh my, are they ever backpedaling their usual heaps of scorn.

I come from the same background as her - white, rural, small state, religious conservative—and parents forced to marry because of an unwed pregnancy. Years of misery for all followed.  So, Palin appeases the hypocritical religious base by making it sound okay that her sexually active teen daughter now pregnant will marry the father.

Here’s what I don’t get—family values on all sides would naturally expect that a woman with a pregnant daughter, especially underage, would be spending time preparing for the baby, counseling her daughter, and keeping her out of the limelight, especially since the woman’s got a newborn demanding her attention. Women can have it all, but there are seasons to our lives. Letting naked ambition contribute more to this family’s current level of dysfuntion is turning off a lot of women.
