Robin Wiliams ‘Still Feelin’ the Palin Love’Posted on Sep 5, 2008
Frenetic comic Robin Williams didn’t wait for David Letterman’s cue to kick off his routine on “The Late Show” Thursday—he was already well into it within five seconds of sitting down, leaving a blinking Letterman trying to keep up as Williams went to town on the RNC crowd, starting with vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin and on up to Karl Rove. bg1:
You are wrong about one thing: Rove’s plan all along was to face Hillary Clinton. He would have done ANYTHING to get her the nomination, and I believe he did what he could. Rove was sure it would be Clinton and had the WHOLE GOP geared up to attack her.
But I’m sure we’d agree on Rove’s viciousness and lack of principle in his pursuit of absolute power for the Re-thugs.

I tried to warn people, that nominating Obama was playing into the Right’s hands. Oh well. Palin’s nomination as VP is just the other show dropping. Now the GOP has made this election about the only two cards it has going for it - the culture war and race hatred.
I suspect that the nomination of Obama was part of Rove’s plan. The Wall Street owned media duped the hippies into pushing Obama through the primaries; they gave him a movie star build-up, convinced the blacks he could win because he’d won the white state of Iowa (never mind that the Obama vote was hippies and GOP crossovers for the day)and the right wing pundits showered him with praise. So now Wall Street, in a year when the GOP is the weakest it’s been in years, now has the weakest Democrat ever to run against. How convenient. The Dems who pushed Obama’s nomination are now scratching their heads wondering why he still hasn’t “closed the deal” with white working class voters. Well, DUH! or DONE. Obama is seen by white working class people as everything they hate, fear and despise. The affirmative action, Ivy League snoot who looks down upon them and would send their job to China in a second.

Though I realized long ago that the American political circus can produce few twists of unexpected surprises, not in my wildest dreams I ever imagined the surprise of this sudden phenomenon called Sarah Palin and her strange family and personality.
It has yet to been seen whether this sudden phenomenon is and act of ingenuity or total insanity!

Incredible that I should agree with a Fadel post 100%. Shows you how much of a REAL threat we are all under, together.
There’s a lesson in this: Never underestimate the American Radical Reactionary Right Wing’s capacity to go further to the Right and further to the truly weird. I think most posters here at Truthdig are more qualified to be Veep, or Governor of Alaska, or even mayor of Bumf**k, Alaska than Sarah Palin. Yet, this totally unqualified, fanatic twit may end up as a President that makes us say “Y’know, as bad as he was, Dubya was still better than the Barracuda.”
That’s got to be a terrifying and unifying thought for every American even slightly to the left of John McCain (except, of course, that complete dupe Joe Lieberman).

Re: Kurt Wx
In response to your many questions. I can not speak for others, just for myself. However, you may find many agree with my summation of the situation.
“What is the matter with you people? Why is it OK for you to spew hatred at her Christian beliefs?”
>> It is not hatred, it is reality. Fundamentalist religions TEACH that anyone who disagrees with their tenets are wrong and evil. So, with this in mind people are only gauging the reality of the outcome with a person such as Sarah Palin who prays for pipelines and hates ANYONE not of her fold.
“Why is it OK to mock her family and her appearance?”
>> This is because Sarah Palin talks the talk, but does NOT walk the walk. In fact, since her acceptance speech it is now also known, SHE LIES.
“Why do people speak as though she were about to be elected Replacement Mommy of All American Children and ram her beliefs down our childrens throats? Heres a newsflash: the public schools in this country have been used to ram other peoples beliefs down our childrens throats for decades now,”
>> Actually, the public school system HAS been used at times in our history “to ram other people’s beliefs down our children’s throats”, as in the case of school prayer. This was a hard fought win, but it WAS a win. It appears that Sarah Palin was not on the side of the winners. Sarah Palin is also advocating the teaching of religious tenets in the schools such as creationism and abstinence programs. Both, RELIGIOUSLY MOTIVATED mantras.
So it is not MY PREMISE to add religion into the schools. Which by the way is in DIRECT violation of the separation of church and state clause of our constitution. Palin’s position on these issues is a reflection of her hate for the rights and protections of the Constitution of the United States.
I do have a question of my own. Why would you defend someone holding Palin’s perspective as she vies for one of the highest offices in America…?

America will be the laughing stock of the entire world if this extremist Annie Oakley gets to sit in the Oval Office. With a 72-year old president who has serious medical issues, the odds of this happening are in her favor.
We get the government we deserve. Last week’s primary election in my area just had a measly 22 percent turnout!

Fadel, youve taken the words right out of my mind again. This has been exactly my reaction. A few others have mentioned it as well. One would almost think that the Republicans were TRYING to THROW the election!! And, theres no possible way Im gonna believe that.
So, this act of TOTAL INSANITY, (which is what I would call it) has a very ominous tone to it. It fact, its downright as frightening as anything theyve come up with to date. Its definitely insanity to us, but this is the same insanity that Hitler and other fascists displayed. The total insanity is what defines regimes such as this, and its the only way to maintain the chaos. And, they can only maintain the power as long as the overall society that has been intentionally destabilized, can REMAIN destabilized. Any measure of stability, such as is provided by an adherence to the rule of law, (Constitution) is consistently undermined by the regime who wants to retain the power.
This insanity is part and parcel of the bag of tricks. They ARE insane.
That’s what scares the crap outta me.

Sarah Palin must be doing something right to elicit this spontaneous burst of vitriolic hate from people like Robin Williams. His “humor” in this annoying clip is like the hissing of a venomous snake. The comments above indicate that many actually believe the election of Sarah Palin to be Vice President will cause the downfall of Western Civilization. What is the matter with you people? Why is it OK for you to spew hatred at her Christian beliefs? Why is it OK to mock her family and her appearance? Why do people speak as though she were about to be elected “Replacement Mommy of All American Children” and ram her beliefs down our children’s throats? Here’s a newsflash: the public schools in this country have been used to ram other people’s beliefs down our children’s throats for decades now, so you are too late to worry about Palin. I am glad that Palin has struck a raw nerve and gotten some of the people who never vote to wake up and start talking about some of these important issues facing our nation, whether they are for or against what Palin believes. I only wish we could be more civilized and less histrionic.

Texas,
You are correct that Alaska has no sales or income tax! Good point. She did however slash property taxes by 40 % when she was mayor Wasilla. However, don’t you think she had a hidden motive? She did after all own property in Wasilla!!! She also increased the city sales tax!!!
Is she a real Conservative? As mayor she instituted a policy requiring department heads to obtain permission from her before talking to reporters!! What a civil libertarian she is!!!

I would think anyone who was considering voting for McCain would want to take another look. If this is the way he selects his team, I don’t want him for my president. As the story goes, he met her once maybe twice, the vetting, if any was done a week prior to her selection. These are really a poor way to make executive decisions. And I would not want this lightweight, extreme right wing, “pit bull with lipstick” as the president of this country and given McCain’s age and health it could happen

Ron Ranft’s comment needs to be seconded. Here’s the first part. See below for all of it.

Corporations hold parties at the conventions bribing behind closed doors while the party goers lie to anyone who asks what they are doing. Both partys have sold their souls to the wealthy elite and then stand before the People and tell them how they are different, they remember that they are there to do the Peoples business while behind their back their hands hold envelopes stuffed with cash.”

Corporations hold parties at the conventions bribing behind closed doors while the party goers lie to anyone who asks what they are doing. Both party’s have sold their souls to the wealthy elite and then stand before the People and tell them how they are different, they remember that they are there to do the Peoples business while behind their back their hands hold envelopes stuffed with cash. On one side we have a warmongering Senator who helped end the Peoples ability to declare bankruptcy while making sure Corporations could do it as often as they want to avoid paying their fare share. On the other we have a so-called old boys fighting fisical conservative that runs with the old boys and oil money and left the town that was debt free when she became mayor with 19 to 27 million dollars in debt when she left. And this is just scratching the surface of the VP candidates.
For Pres we have 2 people who have bought the whole ridiculous GWOT thing. The only difference is one thinks it will be won in Iraq and the other says it is Afghanistan. Neither one knows what the hell he is takling about. Both of them will sacrifice every citizens rights and money to save other countrys all the while letting this one fall into ruin.
We are a nation of torture, kidnapping, thuggery and pre-emptive wars and arrests. This country looks alot like 1933 Germany including the cheering of the masses over the instruments of their nations demise.
The laughter we find in the antics of comics like Robin is because we laugh for fear if we faced or acknowledged the real absurdity of it all we would either have to do something about it or break down in tears.
So lets all sing another chorus of Welcome, Bien Venue!

I was planning to vote for John McCain, but I can not now with his choice for VP. Palin is so out in right field. With abstinence-only programs; like that has worked for her with her own family. I am not for abortion but I am for knowledge and thinking. Energy policies - dirty coal plants, opening up Arctic National Wildlife before the lesser evil of offshore drilling. She does not believe is global warming. How could she not? QW - how can she be praised as a tax cutter, when Alaska has no state income tax or sales tax. I respect McCain, however I can not see her as the next president if something should happen to him. Really, Really bad choice on his part. One loss vote!
