Hersh on Iran
thinkprogress.org

You may have already seen this, but it bears re-posting far and wide: The inimitable Seymour Hersh gave truly disturbing details, during the Campus Progress journalism conference in July, expounding upon his article from that month’s New Yorker about the Bush administration’s attempts to find a cause for war against Iran in late 2007.

RE: Hersh is the best investigative journalist we have.

Very likely, but his analysis is weak. It’s not a game of “chicken,” it’s a calculated “strategy of tension,” à la Gladio - http://www.answers.com/topic/operation-gladio -  designed to fail self-determinant states and plunge the region into chaos.

As for a real attack plan, the Air Force mutiny that grounded the nuclear-armed B-52 in Barksdale (Aug. ‘07), presumably on its way to join an Israeli air operation over Syria, was the closest it’s come. Has he dug into that one? And while he’s at it, what about the nuke that’s allegedly gone missing. Reports have circulated that 6 left Minot and only 5 were checked in at Barksdale.

He talks about ginning up a Gulf-of-Tonkin type provocation…what does he think 9/11 was? And for those who don’t like that kind of talk, are you going to accept that BushCo. lied about literally everything except 9/11?

This was occurring in Iran’s sovereign waters.  Iran has a right, by international treaty, to board ships to inspect for hostile intent.  No helicopters in the air. Submarines are to pass through on the surface, etc. etc.  This includes all nations passing through their waters.

And our governmental representatives allow these creeps to remain in office.  What a disgrace.

I dont think there should be any surprises here.

Did anyone actually think or beleive that our government (democrat or republican) would not lie, decieve, creat false pretenses, fabricate events, initiate and conduct terror, and or whatever else their devious minds can possibly come up with, in order to consolidate and expand the empire?

Integrity, honesty, morality, decency are not part of their vocabulary and the game they play. They pay lip service to these principles in the form of slogans to fool our naieve and misinformed public into hiding their true motives and actions.

As long as the work of the Military is being contracted out there will be war, for the investors are the one who are profitting from wars, why the American tax payers are doing the paying.

War for profit, proof, Iraq war.  Are we safer, no, whe should be afraid of the military contracters on over throwing our government.

Sad but maybe true.

I believe jejune is pronounced with a soft “j” rather than a soft “g”.  There were photos all over the internet after the “incident” with Iran which proved the Pentagon’s photo’s had been altered.

From the local newspaper 3rd week of May 2008:
National Guard unit alerted for 2010 mission:
The 3,000 members 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team(Mountain) based in Vermont, including six states altogether, has been alerted for possible deployment in Afghanistan.

Or could they possibly mean Iran instead? This administration should not be allowed to dictate future military situations years in advance, when they should not even be in the position to do so. Does this speak to you that they have no intention of leaving?

Don’t be surprised if the election does not take place. Hillary even said a while back that something BIG will happen the end of October to throw off the elections. At the time some thought it would be something about Obama. However, it could be the invasion of Iran. The sabre rattling and drum beat have been going on for some time now. And if this happens, issame group will refuse to vacate the W.H. and continue to drag down what is left of this country.

Congress has proven time and time again that it has no backbone to refuse to allow any more money for any more wars, so we will be stuck with another quagmire, just like the ones we have now thanks to the Bushco/Cheney the Chainsaw Gang.

It’s true that a lot of people have died in this war. But the death of the belief that we are a nation of the people, by the people, and for the people is the biggest casualty of all.

Hersh is the best investigative journalist we have.  There are so few now.

For the american citizens that believe these things just don’t happen… those denialists that have never heard about Operation Nothwoods or can’t possibly entertain the idea that 9/11 was an inside job, need to go no farther for evidence than this story.

Worked so well to fire up suuport for the illegal, trumped up invasion of Iraq. I’m sure they could pin that one on Hatfield, if the facts again lead back Detrick again…. Always got to have a back up Patsy.
Which Hitler type tactic, method or devastation are the International Community Waiting for before they finally levy High Crime Charges against this Admin and their Corp and Foreign “Royal” sponsors?
Congress, and SCOTUS have proven their impotence and/or Complicity- So it is theInternational Communities responsiblity to finally prosecute for these Unwarranted Aggresions and Threats to the World Community. After they clear out the Top criminals for War Crimes andCrimes against Humanity- We’ll clean up the rest for Treason, Spying, Embezzlement, Fraud ....and the Anthrax murders and attempted murders.

I’ve been reading Hersh for years. I’ve saved many of his articles. I’ve yet to find one that didn’t prove true. While I prefer primary sources or cited info, investigative journalists must have some unnamed sources. His article on Bush administration secret operations inside Iran is a must-read. Better Congressional and public oversight is imperative. Although this administration has less than 6 months left, it’s proved it can do a lot more damage.

I ditto JNagyara…

Seymour Hersh has delivered the truth over and over again, and well in advance of it becoming obvious to the rest of the world.

As for his sources, that’s probably the whole point. Daniel Ellsberg delivered the truth as well. So did Woodward and Bernstein.

Hersh has been responsible for breaking stories which—later—turn out to be verified by other media as being true.

Sure, if you want, wait for the verifications.  But Hersh’s track record is not to be dismissed out of hand because contrary to your distrust.

In addition, as to his sources in the Pentagon and military: the Pentagon/military is not a monolith holding one single view.  Not all in the military back the Bushit criminal enterprise and its anti-American plans.  And that has been obvious since at latest Bushit’s determination to invade Iraq, regardless teh facts and reality, and the warnings of such as Colin Powell about the consequences.

“I can’t explain it, but a part of me doesn’t entirely trust Sy Hersh.”

Fair enough.

Would you trust/believe Cheney if he denied it?

I can’t explain it, but a part of me doesn’t entirely trust Sy Hersh.

Maybe it’s because of his constant anonymous-“friend of mine” name-dropping, or his seemingly close contacts in the Pentagon.

Either way, I don’t think his information, or atleast his “sources” can be entirely trusted.
