John McCain ad
youtube.com

What are we to make of this new John McCain campaign ad, in which colorful countercultural degenerates prance through the opening frames, and, near the end, a still of Noble Older McCain is superimposed over footage of Hunky Younger Ex-POW McCain? The take-aways: (1) “Our world is dangerous ... our economy in shambles.” (2) “John McCain doesn’t always tell us what we hope to hear” (our emphasis). (3) John McCain is a heterosexual and a maverick—and definitely not a hippie.

Bob Sheer must cringe when he reads these comments.  Not an intelligent response among you.  You sound like how I would imagine the responders to the Swift Boat web site must sound.  How about some intelligent discussion?
McCain is a total conundrum.  He has a history of bi-partisanship and has done some good things in the Senate.  Finance reform, waste in the military, and progressive ideas about immigration among them. However, he seems to be playing the “I’ll say what you want to hear if you’ll vote for me” card.  Unfortunately, so is Obama.
As far as the ad is concerned, it’s totally insulting.  It says to me that anti-war protesters in the 60’s are anti-american.  The McCain camp seems to be using Roveian tactics, just wait for the negative stuff to start flying.

There is a great article in Nations Magazine, a couple issues ago, entitled the Media love Affair w McCain.  Try to read this article.  It sheds a lot of light on this glossing over of McCain record.
What was real interesting was when Gen Clark said on Face the Nation that just because McCain got shot down in Vietnam doesn’t qualify him to be president; I thought the host was going to pop out of his seat.  It was as if to say ‘how dare you stick holes in this inflated ballon we (MSM) have created for McCain.’  For the next several days, pundits railed, decrying how dare you, Gen Clark.  You can’t do this to us.  That McCain is not using his POW status to run for president.  Here it is a week later - McCain puts out an ad filled with his POW status.  Back in February McCain introduction video was filled w his POW stuff.  I don’t expect MSM or the pundits to question his credentials but I do expect honest journalist to question them.  Hey, I gotta keep hope alive, don’t I?

McCain will vote any way you want him to, provide that you will vote for him. Ethics, truth, and integrity be damned.

Was McCain the only POW during the Vietnam War (I use the term loosely)? Did it help him to have a daddy admiral and a grandaddy admiral to help get those medals for him?

Mc Cain was always a bottom feeder - very close to the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy - would anyone ever have heard of him if he weren’t a POW?

Let’s acknowledge the “heroism” of the many other POWs of the Vietnam incursion.

McCain is nothing but an empty headed old fool and any media source, including TruthDig does its readers or viewers a disservice by pretending that the range of ideas goes from Grandpa to Obama.

Nader has ideas that should be discussed as much as Obama’s.  McCain should be retired to a convalescent center for old drunks and forgotten.

“Oh, please!

This arrogant selfish conniving old jerk left his first wife while she was dying in the hospital after a devastating car wreck, because he couldn’t bear to live with a scarred, disfigured, disabled woman. Like he was so damned beautiful!!!!”
============================
Rage, thank you for this piece of personal information about this “old jerk” called “maverick” McCain! I have to admit that I didn’t know this piece of information, and my excuse for that is due to being absorbed, for the last eight years, with the phenomenon of our Liar-in-Chief becoming the President of this sad country of ours for two terms!

Though I knew that this jerk McCain was a senator, I never took him seriously and that’s because to be a senator, in the last twenty or thirty years, all you needed to do is to pander and pay respect to the Israeli AIPAC, take their dirty money and you’re guaranteed to win.

But after reading what you wrote about his personal life, and the fact that he is the Republican nominee who might become our next Fear-Monger-in-Chief, I am wondering how our MSM has not brought this dirt up as they are doing in the case of Obama! In my judgment, if what you said about abandoning his disfigured dying wife, for a wealthy woman is true, then that’s the most important aspect to judge his less than normal human character! If for the money of his wealthy current wife he sold his human principles and family duties, then this man might easily sell his country and his fellow countrymen to anyone who might top the scale of the glittering gold for him.

Again, I am wondering, if this piece of information is true, how the Obama camp has not capitalized on this in an add the way they are doing to him and lately his wife! I hope the Obama people would read my comment and get inspired about creating an ad; for, after all, a large part of this campaign is about dirt digging!

A would be Fear-Monger-in-Chief says, “Our world is dangerous ... our economy in shambles.”
===============================
On these two points senile McCain might be speaking the unintended truth he knows well, because he knows his own contributions to making this world dangerous and our economy in shambles!

Oh, please!

This arrogant selfish conniving old jerk left his first wife while she was dying in the hospital after a devastaing car wreck, because he couldn’t bear to live with a scarred, disfigured, disabled woman. Like he was so damned beautiful!!!!

He came home from captivity in Nam to the cushy command of a bunch of worthless chowhounds flying a fleet of heaps the Navy was about to decommission. All this jerk did was get paid to keep moral up in this squadron of useless 2nd raters until the Navy could get around to reassigning or washing out this bunch. It wasn’t Top Gun by any stretch of the imagination. What’s more is this twit didn’t even make admiral at the end of this tour. No, he went on to sit around the Senate for three decades in much the same way.

Quite frankly, McCain is nothing more than an over-glammorized welfare receiving knave who has spent a lifetime sponging off the government , pretending that he’s working for the good of the people. He couldn’t care less about anyone or anything that hasn’t assured him wealthy retirement residuals.

It’s time we took those biscuit wheels off that gravy train. Surely, by now, the old elitist coot has enough on which he and his beer baroness Barbie can retire comfortably from public life to live in the properties not slated for sale for nonpayment of their taxes.

Snatch Gramps’ snout out of the trough! Three decades of the people slopping this war hog is enough!

Greetings Fadel Abdallah, the biting satire that you enjoy can not be attributed to beer at all. (You know: Don’t drink and blog.) Now I know that some people like to ponder matters over a good glass of ale, I don’t. Beer drinking, unless I am working as a consultant, is a recreational flavor adventure that has nothing to do with other activities. So my comments on the Arizona Senator are stone cold sober, always. But the Budweiser comment fits in with the fact that his second wife, Cindy is an heiress to a massive Budweiser distributorship in Arizona. A provider of such wealth that Mrs. McCain could spend three quarters of million dollars on shopping in a single month. As my friend Nasser, a devout Muslim and convenience store owner said to me: “it must be nice!”
Peace and blessings, The Beer Doctor

It’s my understanding that had McCain taken an early release he’d have faced courtmartial, I don’t know how true that is, but it could have served as a deterent.  And how handy that he can now use it as a campaign strength, to emphasize his service to his country.  He should move away from his war efforts, though, before public awareness focuses on what, exactly happened to him during his years as a POW.  Did that experience leave him LESS able to govern a country because of the torture, stress, etc?  That would be my big question.

McCain must be older than he looks - imagine him trying to catch up to today’s culture. The next thing we know is that he will learn how to use a computer and maybe even an ipod - or he might text message his staff if he can learn the alphabet.

John, we hardly knew ye - and ye ain’t helping!

I am the beer doctor and I approved this message: JOHN McCAIN is a genuine American war hero, he is genuine the way the great American lager Budweiser is genuine. When his government called to help bomb peasants back to the stone age, he said Yes I will.

Excellent comment, the beerdoctor! You saved me the trouble of producing my own. And I love the deep sarcasm in your comment! I want to know how much of this depth is attributed to beer drinking? My disadvantage is that drinking alcohol is a no no in the religion I was born in; therefore is there a non-alcoholic beer you recommend, which also has the effect of sharpening one’s brain?!

Hunky young ex-POW?  I keep reading that McCain was one of the very few POW’s that came back from captivity looking “hunky”.

To quote Paulie Walnuts from the Sopranos, “In my book, you get points for staying out of the can!”

For his service the United States owes McCain everything it owes all it’s veterans, and nothing more.  It is as if he is asking me to “give him” the presidency because he made a sacrifice when he was younger.  He appears to be asking for my sympathy; and hoping I would vote for him out of sympathy.  I’m not sure how McCain’s time spent in prison qualifies him to be President.  We shouldn’t “give” the presidency to people as a reward for time served in a foreign prison.  We need bright, competent, and articulate leaders, not a “mercy date”.

I know expressing these thoughts in public is heresy; but mine is not the only mind these thoughts have crossed.

When his government called to help bomb peasants back to the stone age, he said Yes I will. Then, after being shot down during one of his heroic bombing missions, the riverboat gambler with a penchant for hot women, no excuse me, Maverick, chose to remain in captivity. Proofing that macho and masochism aren’t necessarily bad. As H. Ross Perot said: “McCain is a classic opportunist”. And what else is America but a land of opportunity? He is a living reminder to all those degenerate hippies of that era: make death, not love.
