McCain and the Media: A Love Story?Posted on Jun 30, 2008
The McLaughlin Group takes a look at why, as John McLaughlin claims, Sen. John McCain is “emerging upward”—at least in terms of the press’ treatment of the Republican “maverick,” whom one media source praised for his “zealous, unbending beliefs,” even as another touted his willingness to thumb his nose at ultraconservatives and compromise when necessary. Pat Buchanan, however, is adamant that the McCain “love affair is over.” Follow this link to watch the clip on Crooks and Liars. This is kind of a weird one. While McLaughlin’s point is well taken and absolutely true, the mail-it-in hackery of his segment is lame. First, one of the quotes he cites was from David Nyhan, a former Boston Globe columnist who died in 2005, and was clearly from the 2000 campaign. Define “recent”, John. Also, almost all of those quotes, although obviously out there in the public, were compiled in a legitimately recent piece in the Nation, yet JMac give no attribution. On a scale of one to ten, this rates a two in attention to detail.

“Unbending beliefs”??? McCain flip-flops hourly! He cheated on his wife! He takes credit for things he opposed! What is wrong with this country & the media-- “Unbending beliefs”?? What a total crock! This guy can’t remember what he pledged an hour ago. Please, please, someone in the media start showing what a “bending beliefs” flip-flopper this man is. God help us all if anyone thinks he has unbending beliefs. He has shown over & over that his so-called beliefs depend entirely on his audience.

The MSM, the corporate owned press and media, are scared spitless of Barack Obama. He’s going to raise their taxes, break up their monopolies and in general strive to loosen their fascistic grip on this nation. Does anyone think they’re not going to do everything in their considerable power to make John McCain, who’s a real scatterbrained doofus, look presidential?

This love affair with the press has apparently been an ongoing fling. The documents from the Spanish psychiatrist Fernando Barral who interviewed McCain after he was shot down:

Yet, the US News and World Report article of 1973 tells of a “valiant” McCain who supposedly (with much embellishment) “endured” a very different experience.

The site “Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain” has a great deal of information and articles highlighting the many conflicting statements and positions he has taken.
I would recommend this video found on the homepage, just scroll down.

Mac should be holding the Door for Badges of Valor for all those who saw Real action in Vietnam and for all those who are now living everyday in the danger zone in Iraq & Afghanistan.Mac was not a great Officer in training, nor a great Pilot, Nor a hero for staying behind when daddy got him his free ticket out.
Report thiscome on let’s be honest - who else was offered the Out when johnny’s Daddy & buddies got his release? What idiot in the Viet Cong top brass thought it better to torture a US top brass’s son instead of some Nobody? What bravery did it take to fly back after your mission to your barracks instead of spending your nights in the jungle, dodging trip wires and village women strapped with bombs. How many nightmare did Mac have from Post traumatic Stress?
At least Kerry saw real Battles- Mac saw nothing but villages below.and the fact he claims to have been a victim of torture opens to door to prove his claims- those injuries and disabilities are far more likely caused by his crash and Not Torture.
I do not discount any service- but there are those who suffered and lost far more than others. And in the Case of Gen Clark are far more Fit to be Commander in Chief then any guy who was born with a silver Military spoon in his mouth.
His Shameless Use of this Military experience is a disservice to all those who truely sacrificed and to those who lost their lives during combat and as POW’s.Not to mention A Lie to the citizens of this country for his Own Ambitions.
