‘God Damn the Democrats!’

Harriet Christian’s total meltdown at the Democratic Party’s Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting was outrageous enough to make it to the top of YouTube’s political charts. Her tirade illustrates some of the challenges facing the Democratic Party and the Barack Obama campaign as it woos Hillary Clinton’s more colorful supporters. This one, though, is probably a lost cause.

She lied to them for weeks claiming clear victory when she was actually losing.  It wasn’t the usual spin.  It was a series of black lies.  I had some respect for her when the campaign started, but it didn’t take long for me to catch on to the fact that she was a manipulator and a liar.  McCain is just like her, though perhaps more transparent.  It is an indictment of our filthy political system that Obama is such an exception to the general filth that dares to govern us.

Make them all the same is one of the oldest propaganda tricks in the book.  All politicians are crooks.  Voting makes no difference.  They are all liars.  Clinton and Obama are equally guilty.  (Absolute baloney.  Clinton deliberately planned and executed this despicable campaign for personal reasons so that the Democratic party could be divided for the Republicans.  She is a sociopath and a crook just like McCain.  I sure hope Obama isn’t stupid enough to take such a sabotage master on his campaign.  Some suckers even think the Democratic party should pay off her corporate crook backers.  Let her stay busy paying off her debts.  That should get her out of the way for a couple of weeks.)

I’m voting for the Democratic ticket regardless of the convention’s outcome. I believe the Democrats are part of the corporate oligarchy but it’s important that the Republicans be thrown out of power (hopefully across the board).

With that said, I lost faith with the U.S. voters in the election of 2004. The majority of the voters in this country are a ship of fools who vote against their own self-interest and against the long-term interest of the country (ie. their grandchildren).

The country has the president it deserves right now. Apparently John Kerry was too elitist so the voters re-elected a half-wit that more accurately reflected themselves. Go ahead and vote for McCain. At least he’s not another jerk with an MBA degree.

No offense intended here Brigitte, but I believe it is YOU who have missed the point.

In this contest, it is NOT about Hillary’s gender, it is about HILLARY! There are multiple posts, from many, many women on this site, making this crystal clear.

Nobody who has paid even a pimple’s worth of attention is unaware that in a patriarchal system such as the US was original established upon, sexism has prevailed. To say that there has been NO progress is foolish. To measure such progress as dependent upon putting ANY woman in the white house is insane.

As Aegrus has put it so clearly, far too many women have thrown THEMSELVES under the bus. I’m sick of hearing about how long it took for women to get the vote, since it was STILL long before ANY African-American (specifically in the South) was able to vote, and besides…YOU VOTE NOW for Christ’s sake!

But, as Aegrus has also pointed out, we STILL only earn 70 cents to the dollar that men are paid for the same jobs. So why aren’t you bitching about that? Why were you not complaining when Billary was setting up the NAFTA plan, and outsourcing so many jobs? Why weren’t you complaining when Bill was setting up the union busting precedents, and cutting back billions and billions for social programs that assisted primarily WOMEN? And why haven’t you been pressuring Senator Clinton in her position on the Armed Services Committee, to do something about the horrific conditions that ALL of our troops, but especially our female troops are dealing with, when 1 out of 3 of them are being raped by their fellow military personnel?

Why are you so willing to put this person in the top office, when she has done NOTHING to indicate that she’s the least bit interested in addressing the concerns of women? WHY, as women and mothers, are we not more concerned with making sure that our children – our sons and our daughters, have equal access to education, and jobs? THESE are the things you should be doing with your vote, since you DO have it now. And that would require paying attention to the PERSON running for the offices, and not the GENDER or the RACE of the PERSON.

Smart Americans, regardless of their gender, or their race, or their religion or lack of it, will examine the issues that are of the greatest importance to them, and decide which PERSON is most likely to deliver on that. Hillary’s track record has so far indicated that she cannot and will not work in my interests as an American citizen, who happens to be a female of color.

Now if you’re so worried about who does the ‘work’ and who counts the money, then you need to work that out with the people who are doing the work and counting the money. How do YOU know that isn’t the arrangement that they feel most comfortable with. And what makes you think that you can pigeon hole all Americans into the role models that you choose for them?

And what makes you think that you can collect any points by insulting the larger population by claiming that we would rather ‘self-destruct’ than vote for a woman? Are you crazy? We’ve been in destruction mode for nearly 8 years, and the WOMAN whose job and duty it is in Congress, NANCY PELOSI, has failed us miserably in her refusal to use the legal remedy to halt this destruction, via the impeachment process.

So no. If you’re a ‘second class’ citizen it’s only because that’s what you’ve CHOSEN to be, by your own inaction, and corrupted perspectives and priorities. And Hillary isn’t gonna help you with that.

So, you should speak for yourself on the ‘women have always been second class citizens’ thing, because I’m a woman, and I’m damn sure not a second class citizen, nor will I allow myself to be treated as such.

To all of you, American haters

You can always find an individual (i.e. Paris Hilton) to point out American short comings.  You can point out the flaws of the video of Harriet Christian, but she spoke and said many things that a lot of people agree with.

A short lesson in American Politics

The Democratic party has been about selling Liberalism, through basic groups or voting blocks. In the last 38 years not successful in getting to the White House or the executive branch of our Government.  Now, some in the Democratic party are trying to marry Liberalism to Liberation theology, because atheism is not a growing sect since the demise of the Soviet Union.  Many reasonable Democrats are finding the marriage distasteful since it means leaving the center and taking a sharp left towards people like Chavez in Venezuela.

The Republican party is a coalition of values, not voting groups. Thus, open to transfer of voter groups, in this case it is the women’s voting block.  Mainstream women voters are not radical Liberals, they are just people that are concerned with security. More importantly they do not agree with Political Correctness when they have been overtaken by an upstart.

Maybe this explanation is too reasonable or too deep of an explanation to American haters.  But if you did not understand that, then understand this…

At the end of it, it will all work out. And America shall reign supreme, we sill re-invent ourselves again and we’ll keep teaching the world a thing or two about how to move forward.

Thanks

I, too, am a 50+ caucasion woman, and ashamed and shocked at this type of blatant, racist statement.  I, too, was torn between Clinton and Obama at first.  Some change is essential at this time, we’ve had WASP male leadership in this country for too long, it’s old and stale.  I think it’s time for either a black person or a woman, and I could have voted for either, but I’m leaning toward Obama now, Clinton is not taking the simple fact that she’s losing with much grace.  First and foremost McCain must be defeated and a personal win is just not that important when the alternative could be another four years of a rich white repub. male administration.  My own personal preference would have been Edwards, but I have never really had my personal preference come out in front in my lifetime, so I’ll get over it and support the (in my mind) next best thing.  The idea that if Clinton doesn’t get the nomination (and she’s not going to) democrats would vote for McCain can only be read as racist.  Maybe the dem. party has failed it’s members in the past, but voting for McCain is not going to punish the party as much as it will the people.  Think about that if you’re inclined to vote against whatever person the party nominates to prove some point.

Look there is hypocrisy on both sides...Ms. Christian’s ratings were borne more out of frustration than racism, while I cannot say she is a racist only she and God know for sure.

People that despise Hillary or the Clintons in general will easily allow themselves to believe they are racists.

One can make a similar claim with the Obamas, many think Michelle Obama has some prejudicial views on whites, certainly Pastor Wright does and Father Phleger seems to enjoy being an apologist for African Americans rather than ministering to the people of his parish. I am Catholic and in all the years I attened mass no Catholic Priest has ranted and raved in the demeaning way that Father Phleger has. He did not only demean Hillary and women in general but he demeaned African Americans mimicking them with a deplorable jive “ghettoesque” way of trying to “talk black” Can you imagine Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Harold Ford Jr., and many other prominent African Americans talking and acting like Father Phleger did?

At the end of the day the fact is that Senator Obama will be the democratic nominee and I say ths as a Hillary supporter. For those that say they will vote for McCain, please explain to me the logic behind that? As Hillary supprters and Democrats I assume you believe in the goals and the ideology that the party stands for are you going to sacrifice all that you believe in to support an opposing ideology?

I have no great love for Obama but because of the ideology of my democratic party of helping the poor providing insurance for children [s-chip] raising the minimum wage which despite the recent increase is still substandard, the belief that governmemt has a responsibility to the poor, the belief that governmemt should not defy the Constitution and spy on its on people because of paranoia about terrorism as justification for it, and many other reasons I will vote for Obama despite my reservations about him. My advice is for him to pick Ed Rendell as Veep and listen to his wise advice [actually he was my pick for president before he decided not to run]

I still think Hillary would make a far better president than Obama but that now becomes a moot point, however in time I believe the Democratic Party will unite after the convention.

We are far, far behind EU countries in many ways...but it isn’t because of Thatcher, Merkel, et al.

How many German PM’s have been Jewish?  How many British PM’s have been Paki, Indian, or any of the other myriad nationalities that the Brits have ruled over?

Besides that, European heads of state (in many cases) rise to that position not by winning a direct election but through the wonders of proportional representation and multiple party systems that the European democracies use.

We’d be better served by catching up with Europe in how we do politics rather than trying to simply elect a woman or a black man or an asian or whatever.

You do realize that many EU countries have voter turnout in the 90% range.  Let’s catch up that way and see where it gets us, eh?

Come on guys, we don’t need to add generational warfare to this lady’s list of grievances. Instead of saying she and people like her should hurry up and die already, perhaps there is a more reasonable way to ask disappointed Clinton supporters to consider that other voices from this primary deserve the same equal regard which they demand. Opposition to her candidate — or to Ms. Christian’s perspective — is not proof of the disenfranchisement of women. Which begs the question: Does she really desire equality? Her argument sounds like a demand for some (Hillary suffragettes) to be more equal than others (the rest of us). Ms. Christian was given the opportunity to be a “somebody” in the eye of the media but, by ranting like a lunatic, she squandered her chance to be heard and marred the public face of the cause she claims to support.

In the same way, as Democrats seek to unite and to appeal to independent voters and disaffected Republicans, those who support Onama — and more importantly an end to Republican abuse of the executive — must try to avoid behaving in the childish manner of Harriet Christian. The task at hand must be viewed as a PR campaign first and foremost. If you want to win, it is essential to convince others of the validity of your view. Hammering at the wedge simply does not help.

Well said Aegrus! You speak for most of us, even though it was a total waste on Sue Cook, and any other ideological Hillary supporter, who has no clue about any of the issues that you raised.

She starts out with the same ignorance that has been evident since the very first post I remember reading from her. In this one, she says that Hillary supporters have been ‘let down’ AGAIN!

What does that even MEAN? Again? I mean, I can see how they’ve been ‘let down’ by Hillary losing, state after state, after state, after state. But I don’t get how that’s the fault of the DNC!

Yet, there was another similar comment from another Hillary worshipper, asking ‘when has the DNC ever ‘ruled’ in Hillary’s favor?” What the hell is he/she TALKING about? Since when did the DNC become the ‘deciders’ or rulers of in an election process? I thought that’s what the VOTERS did!

The mentality here is that NONE of the rest of us count for anything! Now all of a sudden, only Michigan and Florida are the important states? Holy shit! How did this get so jacked-up? These were the same states that Hillary obviously didn’t give a rat’s ass about when she agreed with the original plan that you all, (MI and FL voters) wouldn’t matter. Now it’s the rest of us that don’t matter. (at least according to Sue Cook and other Hillary worshippers).

Still, just because I honestly would like to understand, WHAT are the OTHER times that Hillary supporters have been ‘let down’?

I read a piece in the NYT on the Puerto Rico primary, (where she did ‘win’, btw) and one of her big time supporters was lamenting that ‘she didn’t deserve’ the ‘treatment’ she’s been getting. My God, my God! WHAT ‘treatment’? It’s an election. People vote. Then we count the votes, and whoever has the most gets the nomination. Hillary doesn’t have the most votes. She hasn’t had the most votes in a really long time. Remember the 11 state losing streak? It’s probably happened sometime around then. And that’s been SINCE Super Tueday, when Obama also made a better showing.

Now I just read that she needs 358% of the superdelegate vote to win. Yep...358%!!!

I don’t think I can take anymore of this ‘new math’. It’s enough to boggle a middle-aged woman’s mind!

Meantime, check out the posts from Cesco. He thinks Americans are downright crazy! After watching this spectacle, can anybody blame him?

That’s the kind of defeatist attitude which blocks good legislation from ever being brought forth. It also keeps fat, worthless representatives in Congress even though they do nothing but take up a seat with a letter next to their name.

I’m fed up with this contorted logic. You have no idea what Europe is like, or the rest of the world for that matter. Everyone has progress to make. America is not alone. You’ve lost the faith, so don’t blame Obama or anyone else for the fact this country has lost track. Robyn,

I agree that Hillary’s supporters feel let down...again!  As I see it, justice was not served with that farce of a meeting they publicly aired to make it look like they came to the conclusion of seating the delegates, (but not fully)that day. (after hours of deliberating?)

That conclusion has been tossed around months ago when this whole debacle came up.  What changed?
The outcome was predictable.

The democratic party (DNC) should be ashamed of themselves.
I know I am ashamed of being aligned with them.

I will be changing my affiliation to “independent” because of it.

I never seen so much confusion with the backwards rules they impose on candidates with the expectations of running a smooth campaign.

Hillary supporters keep citing sexism as the reason why she is losing. Where is the evidence for this? I have not heard Obama or his campaign suggest that she can’t win because she is a woman, but I certainly have heard Hillary and her campaign suggest in veiled words that Obama can’t win because he is black, and many of her supporters (especially in West Virginia) have said so outright. But not once have I heard a sexist comment against Hillary.

Where is the proof? Is the mere fact that she is losing in the delegate count and the popular vote count (assuming we don’t accept her wacked out math) proof of sexism?

Perhaps Hillary and her supporters should blame poor campaign strategy rather than sexism as the reason she is losing. She was the front runner. She had the institutional support of the Democratic leadership and all the money, but when she ignored the small states, Obama took advantage of it and racked up a delegate lead that she couldn’t overcome.

That’s where Hillary lost. This cry of sexism just sounds like sour grapes. In every contest, there is a winner and a loser. If you have lost, then the best you can do is lose with class. The way Hillary and her supporters are acting is completely undignified.

I could imagine that Ms. Christian has given most of her adult life to the Democratic Party and now she is summarily tossed into the trash heap of irrelevance. Figures. Both political parties are guilty of arrogance, self-serving elitism, and using the ‘common folk’ for an end that might not justify their means. I’m willing to bet that Ms. Christian is heavily “invested” in ‘donkey’ party and she didn’t get her moneys worth. It’s the two party system that is broken and painfully corrupt. We shouldn’t chastise Ms. Christian for her outrage. Ms. Christian becomes just another media sound bite that Amerika snickers at for several moments and the real issues of importance are ignored. By the candidates and the political parties. I’m thinking there was a time when an outburst like Ms. Christian’s would have been headlined as ‘righteous indignation’.

This irrational and racist outburst does not represent the views or voting intentions of all older caucasion women. Many of us are ashamed and shocked by the delusional public statements by Hillary and by the destructive antics of many of her benighted supporters. I initially was torn between supporting Hillary and Barack, but this kind of behaviour by both Hillary and her followers have made firm my and my women friends support for Barack. The above behaviour is shameful!!!

What a joke; hehehehehehhehe.. This lady is realy out there. She’s not alone though. And that my friends is the reality that we face today. People that are 50+ yr’s have a racist attitude lurking just below the surface of their plastic smile ready to explode when they feel thretened. And it won’t go away until they die. Lets just hope it happens sooner then later. for our children and grandchildrens sake.

“There is far more sexism in this country than all the other “isms”...be they racism, antisemitism, etc.”

You think?

My State (which voted for Obama has two women Senators (whom I support) What State has two Black, Jewish, or Hispanic Senators?
There are 16 women now sitting in the US Senate.
There is one Black man.
There have only been a total of five black senators in U.S. all of U.S. history during that same period, 35 have served in the Senate

Currently, eight women are serving as governors of U.S. states.
There are two black governors, and only one of these was elected.
30 Women have served as governor in various States since the first, Nellie Taylor Ross served as Wyoming’s Governor in 1925.

There have been 3 Black governors, all elected since 1990.

There are currently 43 black members of congress, 14 of them are also women

There are 60 additional women (who do not self identify as African American) making the total 74.

Sounds like racism trumps sexism ...at least at the polling place.

You are missing the point....it’s not about the “black guy” thing, it’s about the “woman” thing.  Women are, and always have been, second class citizens.  Women (of any color) didn’t get the right to vote until men (of any color) had the right to vote....and things have not changed in this country.  There is far more sexism in this country than all the other “isms”...be they racism, antisemitism, etc.  I’ve seen it in business and in the private sector.  Last weekend, I attended the Greek Fest in New Orleans...the women were doing all the work, while the men were counting the money in the backrooms.  And even in Jewish culture, women are second class.  Americans pride themselves as being on the cutting edge, but Americans would rather the country self-destruct than vote for a woman.  We are so far behind the European countries, we may never catch up.

I know it pains you all, but Ms. Christian is absolutely right......the Democratic Party threw us under the bus YEARS ago.  They’re just as craven as the Republicans.  If they had any decency, when they were voted back into Congress in 2006, they would have thrown out the war criminals currently running the executive branch of our government.  I’m disgusted with the whole “process.”

Scary, but it’s good that this was captured and made available to us. Because, THIS speaks to the REAL ISSUES that we’ve had to deal with for all of this time.

THIS crazy old lady is NOT alone in here thinking...and notice how she kicked it off. It’s not about the gender thing, (thought that’s been convenient enough to incorporate) but rather about the same old thing that has plagued us since the beginning of this ‘experiment’. It’s about the racism that they just can’t shake. It’s in their DNA.

It’s about some BLACK guy, thinking that he could upset the old ladies status quo. She’s made herself feel like a second class citizen because the status quo of her day made her (as a white woman) second class to the white male, but STILL ALLOWED for her to ALWAYS have another ‘class’ BELOW HER. (Isn’t that why God made black people? Well..that’s what SHE was raised to believe)

Now of course, (after a few centuries) that ‘lower class’ is changing in it’s stucture, and color, and so she’s just not ‘adjusting’ to this very well. I see it all the time.

Fortunately however, Crazy Harriet does NOT represent the thinking or attitudes of all old folks, so we’ll just be grateful for small things, eh?

Wow! Color me convinced. i completely renounce my conviction that the the super delegates should not vote to overturn the pledged delegate count.

We shouldn’t have bothered holding primaries and caucuses at all, we should have just sent Harriet around the country knocking on doors inviting folks out to meet her for dinner…

maître d’: “Harriet Christian? Party of one!”
