Scott McClellan’s DisillusionmentPosted on May 29, 2008
Scott McClellan appeared on the “Today” show Thursday to discuss his memoir, “What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception,” and the “two defining moments” that caused him to become “increasingly dismayed and disillusioned ... with the way things were going in Washington, D.C.” Watch the clip—courtesy of BraveNewFilms.org Advertisement Previous item: Stewart Checks Out McCain's 'Unremarkable' Buttocks Next item: Amy Goodman Talks to Robert Scheer About 'The Pornography of Power' CommentsAre you a Truthdig member yet? I just love the free marketeers like Hannity and Coulter. Always worshipping at the altar of Adam Smith, they blather endlessly about capitalism and the almighty buck until someone makes a few writing a book exposing the truth about them- then all of a sudden making money is so hypocritical.

Hillary Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe tells the National Journal’s splendiferous Tammy Haddad that he doesn’t care for former Bush White House press secretary Scott McClellan’s scathing memoir.
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/05/mcclellens-book.html
“I never like it when someone works for someone and then comes out and writes a book trashing them,” quoth the Macker. “I don’t care if it is politics or life. If he was that upset about everything, he should have quit. Remember, Gerald Ford’s press secretary quit when he disagreed with pardoning, Ford pardoning Nixon. If you don’t agree, then get out. And I just, I find it abhorrent the way these people come out and write books about their boss. It made ‘em money, it made ‘em prestige, it gave them all this power, and then they turn around and slap ‘em. I just, I gotta tell you, I just uh, I don’t care who it is—Democrat, Republican—it’s wrong.”
Which puts McAuliffe on the same side as mainstreammedia. The puzzle here is how come McAuliffe and mainstreammedia are offended?
Which original founding father felt truth was important?
Oh right ... all of them.
Meanwhile mainstreammedia and McAuliffe, not being able to realize the value of truth are far more focused on the value of loyalty. Never mind that McClellan, like all the rest of us got sick and tired of being lied to and decided loyalty to his believes had to take precedent over loyalty to a pack of liars.
Now some might say he took far to long to tell the truth.
But I find it interesting they are the same reporters and editors and anchor men and politicos who knew damn full well all this crap was going on and took, and STILL take even longer! In fact even now, while they should be busy verifying McClellan’s claims for the public, they are instead trying to discredit him!
Why is that?
Simple answer really.
They are part and parcel, hand-maidens to the liars. And they know it. And they think WE don’t know it!
And they, to a man and woman haven’t got the decency to admit their corruption!
Now McAuliffe, that’s a revelation. We all know mainstreammedia is wedded at the hip to the fascist empire. We just didn’t realize a high power democrat politico like Hillary’s Campaign Chair apparently is too!

I happen to applaud McClellan for putting this information out there and generating discussion. The reaction to his book has been ridiculous, though. Clearly people want him to write what they themselves think and not what he thinks and feels about his job and the people he worked with. He was the press secretary, not secretary of state or vice president. His opinions are just that opinions and shouldn’t be interpreted as incontrovertible fact.
Of course I don’t believe that bush invaded Iraq because he wanted to spread democracy in the mideast.
In any case, that’s hardly a valid reason to wage war on another country—and mcclellan has already indicated that bush is prone to self-deception.
Of course, the bushies would love to create such a fuss that no one will ever think about coming forth to tell the truth again.
Why not embrace McClellan instead of throwing rocks at him?
But I forget i’m online and people aren’t who they say they are…

I was glad to see an ‘inner circle’ confession- but now am skeptical again.
Report thisapparently the WH got an advanced copy in April and have said nothing more then a few soft spank mantra’s Why??
Because His book does not Reveal the REAL reasons for the Invasion- Sure Delusions of Granduer, Misguidance and obstinenece. All Revolting, and perhaps grounds for some charges- But still an Excuse and ‘no malice’.
I realized Scotty just threw US a scrap, not the whole Steak. They have allowed him to Confess to a ‘Lesser ‘Charge. Crimes of propagnada but with ‘good intentions’.
The fact is that this Administration invaded Iraq to seize their Land (Oil). Looking at the Steady increase of Gas Prices since the Invasion- It was Not for OUR benefit, but for the Oil Industries and the Foreign Accomplices. They are Trying Again to SELL US Bullshit excuses, while distracting and concealing the actual Motivation.Ephany…Scotty’s still a ‘Loyalist’ he is Pretneding to be a Dissentor to save their asses from the charges of Treason, Warcrimes and Crimes against Humanity. How harsh would th echarges be for Misguided Idealism? Minute and insignificant. A historical ‘blemish’ compared to charges of consipiring and Profiteering resulting in the loss of Treasure and Life.he’s trying to save Their Asses by ‘exposing’ their Ignorance. A Farce and Scam,a Red herring!!!!

This whole McClellan hoopla is nothing but an
Report thisorchestrated commercial for his book.
He always was and is and will be a trusted member
of Bush inner circle.
When finally the book has sold gazillions of copies
and he and the publishers had raked in millions he will backpaddle and he will say we all have been misled by “faulty” intelligence which in reality was
manufactured intelligence and Bush is a great prisdent.

Wow! The Faux News spin machine really went into high gear immediately against Scott McClellan! Hannity, Coulter—all the usual idiots—are repeating the same line, over and over again, until the listeners’ brains turn to putty.
“Sour grapes from a loser who couldn’t take the heat.”
Never do they address his extremely modest complaints—that the Bush Administration used a “propaganda campaign” to “sell the war.” This is so obviously true, the Foxoids know they had better not bring it up.
Just attack the messenger. Over and over again.
For further instruction, see “Jeremiah Wright.”
If you repeat the BIG LIE over and over again, the people will think it MUST be true; otherwise, the leadership class would not be repeating it so fervently. Thus, the lie becomes truth in the minds of the masses.
McClellan merely stated the obvious; that we were lied into war. If he makes a few unearned bucks on his book…well, that’s not the worst thing to come out of this administration.

Norma, I’m not quite sure I understand your comment. If by opposite party you mean those not in the White House then I have to ditto Maezeppa’s reply. What the American people are thinking in ever increasing numbers is that they were lied to over and over again by the Bush administration, that the Bush administration has done unimagineable damage to America in the eyes of the rest of the world and that there are significant grounds for his and Cheney’s impeachment.
As for African Americans, I think you sell them short. Like most Americans, they don’t follow lies and fear tactics.
I agree and I think most people who read TruthDig agree, our country now brings a lot of heartache to its citizens and much of that can be blamed on the current administration.
By the way, in America, being Muslim does not disqualify you from holding public office and it shouldn’t.

I think the 8 years the republicans tried to destroy
Report thisthe Clinton Presidency tells you why people don’t trust the gov’t. For me it was 1 year in Nam so the rich could get richer. Open your eyes. Nobody in our gov’t works for the people.

I hope other lower level corprist cutthroats spill the beans about what happened during this administration.
Money and the truth setting them free are great incentives.
We the people should vote this government out, in every state and district, it would demonstrate to the world what democracy is and what our nation once stood for.

The truth hurts and the quick retort by the white house and news media was a dead give away, that what McClelland was telling the truth. The only ones to respond and or react were the Bush clonies.
All they will ( regime ) do is pile lies upon lies to cover their tracks and incompetence. This war was for daddy’s revenge.
I commend Scott for exposing this regime for what it is. liars and deceivers.
Like the Cheney, Halliburton contracts were not a collossal conflict of interest ? I mean cheney was only CEO of Haliburton, they didn’t even bid the contracts, they gave Haliburton free rein on all contracts. How about that 30 million dollar over charge from Halliburton some time back which quickly got banned from the media ? And who is Blackwater. A CIA entity under cover for the whitehouse.
To many smoke screens from this regime concludes, you just cant trust them.

I have returned from the Middle East where my husband and I educated hundreds of refugee Sudanese.
Report thisI come home with a broken heart over the terrible
rhetoric I hear against our country and our Commander-in Chief. Shame on all who are guilty. I have lived through 12 Presidents and always studied history….NEVER in all these years has the opposite party been so ugly in their agenda of hate words. What are the American people thinking? Do they want Islam to be our gov’t? Do they want the Shadow Party of Soros to take over? What kind of thinking skills are the African American masses taught in the inner city schools that they would follow lies and fear tactics. My heart aches for our country. Where has the Party of FDR and Truman gone?

Go ahead, say what you want about McClellan, but I think it’s pretty brave to come out and speak your mind against the choir. I’m proud of him for having the courage to lay out his version of the truth for all of us to hear. Yet for some reason the majority of Truthdig commenters prefer to bash just about every article, video, etc. that is put up on this site, including McClellan, despite the fact that he’s putting himself out on the national stage and doing what so few people in politics today (or ever) seem capable of: admitting fault. I really respect that.

I watch this punk talking, and I am age 67 and know many people in this country and know nobody ever who thinks attacking Iraq was any kind of pushing Democracy into the heathens. Everybody knows it is oil. I watch him taking calls, and somebody brings to him lies of the 9/11 Commision, and he flickers an instant, and goes shifting away. He is gone schizoid, knows no reality by now, yet something deep in him will keep him holding his pecker whilst dodging anything approaches the 9/11 coverup. I pity his children, did he ever breed.

Affection for the president versus disillusionment with his misguided polices!!
Is this another type of spin people in the neocon circles want to introduce?! Unless there is a “romantic” relationship between these two guys (Bush-McClellan) I find affection versus disillusionment fort misguided policies as two diametrically opposed concepts.
As to Bush evil and misguided policies we already know that, so we don’t need a book. As to this “affection” part, you might need to elaborate, so per chance there might be some new revelations about the crooked thinking of neocons.
