Bush’s Final Memorial Day at Arlington National CemeteryPosted on May 26, 2008
President Bush gave his final Memorial Day speech at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday, laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns and declaring: “It is a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom that the number of headstones in a place like this grows with every Memorial Day.” Watch the clip: Previous item: McCain's Memorial Day Message Next item: The Pornography of Power Elsewhere: . I replied above in agreement with your excellent post, pw. It is an irony that 4000
Americans died so that we could be less free. I doubt the Iraqis believe they’re now free. Noone’s free after this debacle. This has been the costliest “free” probably in recorded history. We do remember that this is the same (fill in the blank) who stood on the flight deck 5 years ago and declared “Mission Accomplished.” I guess I don’t know what “Mission” means and I guess I have to go look up “Accomplished.”
Then again, maybe I don’t know what “free” means, either. Maybe Bush wrote a new book on “free.”
Come to think of it, it looks like Bush’s memoir will be in the form of a new Dictionary to replace Webster’s, beings that he’s redefining just about every word in the English language. How about “Success?” “Victory?”
Just when I was beginning to understand.

Yeah, but these are the “price of freedom.” Imagine how many there would be if we were now freer than we were eight years ago. Talk about fatalities in vain. 4000+ Americans died the last eight years in Iraq to make us LESS FREE!!!!!!!!! Please don’t tell anyone I said that; it’s not PC.

Bush only mentions those who fought in the Revolutionary War, WWII, and our two current wars as creditable with valor. There he goes again, alienating and dividing people.

A less solemn reminder: No cemetery on earth has fewer headstones than it had the previous year, war or no war.

I just made the huge mistake of watching this clip. Every time I accidentally see an image of him or cheney or rummy I literally have to leave the room for fear of losing control and smashing my 56” JVC to smithereens. Is he EVER going to have to answer for his actions? Are we EVER going to have any satisfaction in seeing him vilified and discredited? How many more letters to newspapers can we write, how many more protests and rallies do we have to attend? My despair grows exponentially :(

As for his words,” It is a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom…
Yes, we remember freedom, the loss of over 90% of the Bill of Rights, the gutting of The Constitution of the United States, the manipulation of rules of law to make this administration out of reach of justice, the lack of privacy, the monitoring of the phone calls and the e-mails we write, the surveillance cameras that are popping up all over this country, the loss of women’s control over their reproductive rights, the loss of the right to protest without fear of loosing everything you ever worked for, the loss of habeas corpus, the loss of the right to a lawyer or to know what charges this government claims you have violated when they abduct you and throw you into one of their secret interrogation centers, the violation of the Geneva Convention, the threat of Martial Law, FEMA relocation camps, torture as a valid tool according to Bushco, the pushing of all of America toward a theocracy, the NWO, the constant threat of the “fear thing” this government keeps repeating, the loss of real reporting of the actual news events we used to have before all this editing by this administration and all the news they produced in this country, the dumbing down of all of the peoples, the great job give-aways from here to everyone but the American peoples.
These are but a few of the things we have lost since 2000 to this rogue band of criminals who have stolen control of America.
Thanks to you Mr. Bush, the only thing rising besides the cost of everyday necessities in this country, is the death toll from your illegal war. Who’s freedom exactly are you speaking of Mr. Bush? Certainly not Americans, as their freedoms and rights have been eroding away on a daily basis since you took office almost eight years ago. By the way, the so called sacrifice of giving up your golf game-which you lied about too - so as to honor our fallen warriors, is more of the same lies you have been feeding the public since you opened your mouth before you stole the 2000 election. We can only really be thankful when and if you really do leave office in January 2009 and do not declare Martial Law, thus continuing this quagmire you have made of US.
Everyone here brings us joy, some by coming and others by leaving. Let the door hit you on your way out.

I loved the headline at Crooks and Liars:
Dead Troops Remembered by the President Who Had Them Killed.
Sad but true. He’s nothing more than psychopathic war criminal.

Every casualty that died in Iraq is a victim of this narcisstic man/child. He is as quilty for the deaths as if he had shot them himself.
How can his smarmy words give comfort or honor to the dead he killed for his own ego, his own wealth?
