McCain Cornered by the Elephant in Ellen’s RoomPosted on May 22, 2008
Sen. John McCain toed his party line well in his appearance Thursday on “Ellen,” where he managed to appear excruciatingly uncomfortable as he listened to host Ellen DeGeneres’ explanation of her pro-gay-marriage stance and as she quizzed him about his own decidedly different opinion on the subject. Phoenix 9/11 Truth Activist to Start Hunger Strike at McCain’s Office
Phoenix, AZ, May 21, 2008 - In an effort to bring national attention to the 9/11 truth issue, Phoenix activist, Blair Gadsby, a professor of Religious Studies, plans to start a hunger strike on Memorial Day, at the Phoenix office of Senator John McCain. Gadsby is putting the spotlight on McCain because of McCain’s avowed support for the official account of 9/11. McCain is the author of the foreword to the 2006 Popular Mechanics book, Debunking 9/11 Myths: Why Conspiracy Theories Can’t Stand Up to the Facts.

I don’t think McCain would be a very good president. I don’t think he’s been a very good Senator. But I think he handled this interview with as much grace as anyone might expect. I don’t agree with his position but I think its foolish to believe he is going to give up his point of view just because he is confronted by someone on the other side of an issue.
He didn’t get angry, he wasn’t arrogant or offensive; he wished her well. Same-sex marriages are a relatively new phenomena, at least in our culture and probably in most cultures.
This is newsworthy, I suppose, in that it shows that he’s capable of handling himself in public. Too bad people don’t ask him why, if he’s so interested in ending torture, that he he doesn’t speak out against the torture and the kangaroo courts that make a mockery of our Constitution.
What kind of President would he be who hasn’t the courage or the consciousness to defend the Constitution against its worst enemies… led by our current White House occupant, the person who he has no trouble wrapping his arms around in affectionate embrace. Such hypocrisy is beyond the pale.

The sad part about this is, McCain can’t and didn’t explain really why he feels this way. All he has is a long tradition of conservative bigotry on his side.
At least Ellen has love on her side.
