Robert Byrd

The senator from West Virginia came undone on the floor of the Senate while honoring his “dear friend” Ted Kennedy. The great orator paused at one point, sobbing, and said simply “I love you.”

Dude, May the peace finally take your heart and let you rest. Maybe you don’t see, but you’ve become
exactly what you accuse your enemies of.

Make peace, Spread peace. Thats all one can do.

Peace

Sean

Yes I cry because of your relentless hate. Is that what the Bible teach you? Then I want no part of it. I cry because Bush has sent thousands of young Americans to their death and that of those Irakis who had nothing against him, AND he will not regret it. At least Senator Byrd regretted many times and still does his involvement with the KKK. So please lay off.

I did many things in my younger days which I regret. I drank, disrespected friends, and acted as if this world was put here to be my plaything. I smashed up cars by the gross, and even put my girlfriend under water in the Kensico Reservoir, the car was a convertible, and we (being 17) swam to safety… both drunk, both thinking the sinking of my fathers new Buick a large joke.

I had less reason, fewer tragedies, then Ted Kennedy. As for Mary Jo Kopechne, If her parents can forgive Teddy, I guess I can. They did so during his 1980 run for the presidency.

As for Robert Byrd, I agree. Hate is different than drunken stupidity. BUT I sincerely wish my Senators would do for rural Maine what he did for West Virginia… isn’t that what we pay them for?

In any case, even though I often disagreed with his positions, I feel bad for Ted and more so for his family.  Oh, BTW I did feel bad for Ronald Reagan It is a shame that Nancy was never able to get the Bush administration to accept stem-cell research. I even felt bad for George Wallace when his wife died, and he was shot. .. and I hated him.

Both Kennedy and Byrd did some things in their youth that, if you believe in an afterlife, they will have to answer for.  Having said that… decades of evilness?  Please.

Both men have dedicated the overwhelming majority of their adult lives to public service and moreover to the causes of education and advocating for the poor, something our Bible-thumping cousins from across the aisle rarely even make a peep about.

As much as you’d like to believe that life and everyone in it can be seen in stark hues of black and white.  I don’t cry for Kennedy as I do not know him, but I nevertheless honor his commitment to public service and his family is in my thoughts.

I cry when I see all the comments paying homage to these two men.  Did anyone cry for Mary Jo Kopechne?  Teddy sure didn’t.  Did anyone cry when they realized that Ted Kennedy was only trying to get equality for women in employment so he’d have more skirts to chase?  Did anyone cry when Robert Byrd was Grand Kleagle of the KKK?  Or when he single-handedly has transferred more wealth to West Virginia from the other 49 states than any senator in history?  Please, spare me.

Is it sad that Kennedy has an inoperable brain tumor?  Yes, it’s sad when anyone finds out they will pass away, but this is ludicrous.

One final thought….did any of you “cry” when Ronald Reagan spent his last few years in the hell that is Alzheimers or when he died?  Why is it that only those on the right can, or are supposed to, forgive decades of evilness?

Joseph P. Kennedy was killed when his Liberator bomber exploded, over England, during WW II in 1944
My mother remembers the incident well.

Jack Kennedy was shot in Dallas November 22, 1963. The world, a much different world, stood horrified.
They released us from school, The Principal came into the classroom and said; “They’ve shot the president, go home.” I remember walking toward Grand Central. some people on the streets were crying, Bus drivers pulled their busses to the side of the road so they could wipe their eyes.  The Time’s Square Shuttle didn’t move because the motorman ... and old black gentleman.. was sobbing next to the train.

Robert Kennedy was shot in the Kitchen of the Old Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles following a victory speech on June 5, 1968.
I changed my political affiliation to Republican, but failed… for the only time in my life… to vote in the fall. Following Robert Kennedy’s assassination, Jackie Onassis declared “I hate this evil evil Nation.”

76 is very old for a Kennedy of Ted’s generation. It’s been a tough and sad life and therefore he must be very strong…

“It’s not over, till it’s over.”

^ honest feelings.  Senator Byrd has grown through these many decades to become our pre-eminent statesman, paying tribute to our other pre-eminent statesman.  He’s 90 and Kennedy (78) has a fatal cancer; we’ll lose two saviors of our Republic too soon.  Then I fear we will be lost.
