Bush Gets BooedPosted on Apr 1, 2008
After throwing the first pitch of the 2001 World Series, President Bush said he “felt the raw emotion” of the fans. The same could be said for his latest trip to the mound, where he endured the boos of thousands. Watch it: Advertisement Elsewhere: . CommentsAre you a Truthdig member yet? Why is the Yutube video of George W. Bush getting booed at the World Series in April 2008 “No Longer Available.”?

My empathy extends no further than a shared love for the game of baseball, and even that’s tenuous.

One would imagine a normal person becoming upset at being booed, however, George is far from normal. And he has gone above and beyond to achieve this goal of being booed so greatly by his unadoring public.
Instead of looking annoyed, he should be proud that the public recognizes him for his splendid (in his mind) achievements. He should be smiling and waving back at his people and not scowling at them. The ingrate!

Hate to say it (because I loathe Bush), but I went to the opening day of baseball twice during the 1980s and saw Reagan throw the ball out. He got booed too. I know, because I was doing the booing.

I misunderstood your post. I thought you meant I should be the one “treated” with MadOff.
You asked me if I’m a fan of Bush. Let me be diplomatic. I hate what he has done to this country and hate even more that he’s done it without remorse but with unbridled arrogance.
If he gets impeached I’m going to try to attend.

To hear thousands booing you would I’d imagine be disconcerning to most normal people. But this man, I’m quite sure lost no sleep over it. In his twisted mind, in his made-up reality he is still God’s warrior against evil and lets not forgett, God’s liason with big buisness too. Unfortunately his God cares nothing for the people. His god enjoys wars and chaos as long as there is a profit to be made. GW Bush is the poster boy for all that is wrong with america today to the rest of the world. And the GOP has successfully stood up an almost carbon-copy of bu$h in John McCain. I’d like to think that a majority of the american people have developed a learning curve with respect to what the republican party has become, but I’m not betting on it.

Didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. I thought your MadOff would be the perfect product for the Madness of King George and since he seems to have his head…well..your know..where it doesn’t belong, it seemed the best place to administer it, and a tube would work much better there. Maybe a gross(a dozen dozen cases)might be enough to head off anymore madness before he leaves office. It’s just that when you posted, you kind of left it up to our imagination(I thought) as to where George could apply it and thought you had the same idea for a place.
MadOff might take that scowl off his face also.
You’re not a G.W. fan are you ? But I did love your idea.

Just as an aside..The taxpayers of the City of Arlington, TX payed for the sports area there. I doubt any of them could afford the tickets to attend any games.
I could be wrong about that part, but not the fact that the taxpayers provided the infrastructure.

“If you open your ears just a little you will also hear cheers. But baseball being a game where someone must win and someone must loose, you folks probably don’t watch much, so you wouldnt know the diff between a boo and a cheer…..most of you would probably be Cub fans anyway”
Oh jimmyjam, you are such a hoot!
Everybody knows, baseball fans boo bad plays, bad calls, and bad coaching. And everybody knows following the boos, the boo’ers cheer themselves for being so right on! And, everybody knows when it comes to bad plays, bad calls and bad coaching, nobody can come close to the Bush!
Of course he got booed! And jeered! And I suspect a few birds got flipped his way as well!
And finally us liberals love baseball! Great opportunity to let it all hang out! Only problem most of us have, as noted, It’s getting harder and harder to buy a ticket. That’s when knowing the right people comes in handy. Big corps buy up season tickets for out-of-towners and employee incentives. I cant remember the last time I paid for a good seat!
Cripes! We love baseball so much we even go watch Little Leaguers and cheer our fool heads off! We love baseball so much we make sure we can get our team on the telly when we’re on vacation! We love baseball so much we’ll even watch it broadcast in a foreign language ... especially if it’s our team!
Bush isn’t really a baseball man. He’s a golfer.

Aside from the republicans, Hurricane Agnes came up the Chesapeake in the early 70’s.
It’s true many of the ticket prices have skyrocketed, I saw CSN&Y;in 73 for $8.50 and thought that was alot, 6 year ago at the MCI center the tickets were $100.00
I agree alot of these projects smack of corporate welfare and everytime I hear of budget shortfalls and deficits and the need to raise taxes and commuter fees, I think not of my expensive day in the sun watching the Redskins or the Nats but I think of those footballs made out of cash being thrown around in Iraq, remember them?

Have been to DC but long ago. Has DC never been hit by a hurricaine? Tornado?
I went on the web, typed in funding of sports stadiums and, not to my surprise, none of it was good. Granted, maybe MCI Verizon has turned out different for DC. I did find out that ticket prices are among the highest, making it likely that many DCers can’t afford them.
I seem to recall a public outcry over financing plans which were to include some fees and taxes, perhaps on car rentals and hotel rooms. So none of that materialized?
All in all, the consensus seems to be that public funding of sports stadia amounts to corporate welfare, and I agree.

Actually the MCI center in D.C also does basketball, hockey, concerts, the circus (not congress), they are built predominately of private funds, special taxes are excised on the spectators, parking, hot dogs, etc.
Much of the multimillions these teams make go to players who in turn build themselves custom homes and own businesses such as auto dealerships, bars and restaurants, etc. in the local area.
Many upscale restaurants will be built, followed by tearing down 50’s era hotels and contruction of new energy efficient hotels.
The government upgrades the infrastructure, about time south capitol street got paved.
Obviously you haven’t been to Washington D.C. but it is above sea level whereas New Orleans isn’t.
But you knew that.

Let’s see if I have this right, in response to patrickhenry:
*baseball and football are huge businesses in the US
*payrolls can be in the hundreds of millions for one club (some going to juicers)
*untold millions of taxpayer dollars are spent for the “places for doing business” of the huge businesses
*the justification for which is often, “it’s a boon to the local economy.”
*some mom and pop businesses benefit to the extent that, instead of having to shut down, they now can stay open and make the equivalent of minimum wage during the season.
*the overwhelming majority of jobs these boons create are p.t. minimum wage
*the good old US labor department uses these job numbers to politically skew the abyssmal condition of the American worker
*these huge sports businesses, in order to meet their gargantuan payrolls, have to charge prices for tickets that most middle class workers can’t afford
But, the upside is—and take heart middle class workers—if you live near one of these places, a big wind could come along and blow your house away and FEMA could open the sports arena up for you to see, maybe even stay in a few days—no game, though.
It didn’t get by my eyes that most people housed in the Superdome after Katrina were AA, but when they panned the crowd after repairs, at the first Saints game, the crowd color was overwhelmingly white.
But, let’s continue to support these worthwhile ventures. There’s no substitute for a good game, a hot dog and a few beers.

I, for one, would not be surprised in the least if Bush pulls something underhanded, like suspend the elections and declare himself dictator of America, a goal of his since well before 1996 when he was Governor in Texas. After all he is well versed in stealing elections, with 2 already under his belt.
I agree the country has become corrupt Margaret, but it started long before the first election was stolen by this group of thugs. And that “whole family thing” is a line of crap and so over used with this bunch. Let’s hope their exit goes smoothly and quickly. At this point in time if G.W. tries to suspend the elections, maybe the rest of the countries of the world will come in and throw him out of office as they are all fed up with all the bushcrap.

That’s a good idea about the ‘mad-off’ Dr. Knowitall.
I think that would be a great name for a vat of snake venom. All we have to do then is just puncture the shrub in a few choice locations and drop him into the vat.
It’s more complicated than what I used to do with the kids, when I just hosed them off with pure water from the garden hose, before letting them back in the house.
Still, the vat full of snake venom has a certain symbolic meaning for him, so it would be worth the extra trouble.

Perfect view of the missile ship in WNY from the stadium. It or its earlier prototypes have been stationed there since before 9/11. De facto missile cap for Washington.
Instead of the U.S. funding the Iraq war and pissing off alot of nations doing so, we should be funding renewable energy, infrastructure and projects like the new Nationals stadium all around this country.

I’m supposed to feel good that Bush actually got booed during a baseball game. Big deal. Sure, fantastic, nice to see him smirk. I’m sure he was really hurt by the fans reaction. On the other hand, I really don’t think he gives a rats ass about anyone in this country who doesn’t belong to his small circle of oil company executives and bank presidents. I doubt that, this is not the first time Bush has been booed at a baseball game. It’s just the first time mainstreammedia has reported it. Loud and clear on the evening news ... maybe there is hope!
And Dr. Knowitall, PhD, PhD is right, in this case the cheering was for the booing!

Right! The facial expressions say it all.
Annoyance? How dare they rain on MY parade.
Worry? “uh sir, we have reason to believe some of those folks may boo.” And, overheard, “My gosh we must have confiscated enough fruit and vegetables to feed this bunch ... except most of the stuff was rotten.”
Or wondering, “How did all these al-qaeda get in here?” Orders to staff, “I want names! Understand?”
But hurt feelings? Naw. Bush may be out of touch, and he may be stubborn and hard-headed. But he’s smart enough to know by now ... the rank and file just don’t like him!
That doesn’t make him sad, just mad.
After all, the fans at a baseball game should KNOW what a “courageous” job he’s done keeping the world safe for democracy ... Ooops, I mean Capitalism and the oligarchy!
This reminds me of the rotten eggs thing. People are still surprised when they hear folks along the route threw rotten eggs at Bush’s limo in his first inaugural parade.
But a lot of folks saw that, in spite of efforts to keep it from us. I guess the Bush people were successful at preventing that from happening the second time around. But I think mainstreammedia has been forced, like it or not to report the obvious, knowing if they don’t they’ll be scooped by some blogger!
Thank goodness this is the last time Bush will be throwing out that ball. Otherwise, the next time around only hand-picked yea-ers would be allowed in the game. Come to think of it, maybe that’s why he was mad. Maybe that’s what was supposed to happen this time and somebody didn’t follow his orders!
Orders to staff, “I want names! Understand?”
Yep. He’s not sad, just mad.

Look closely between 35 - 38 seconds. As his grace enters the field, there’s more than just a video cut, it’s an audio cut as well. Why did this happen? Did Bush get an even more sour greeting than was captured on live tv? How might that be possible, you ask? Perhaps it’s a recorded audio overlay on top of the wild noise of the park. That would explain the chop in the audio…and it could have been easily avoided with just a little fade up. Something akin to laugh track technology, but in this case, only used in circumstances where the President makes public appearances. It seems people are no longer laughing.
Since the park could not be paid off, or populated with like minded marines, editors went with the option of tight cropping around the president, to mitigate any negative gesturing in the crowd, and queued Bush to focus on keeping his face nice and happy, regardless of the tenor of the moment. These all paint a picture we’re all too familiar with…this administration knows the value of public opinion, and is not afraid to wrangle the media into line in order to ensure their specific brand of truthiness rings though, loud and clear.

Though, I guess I needed to listen carefully. Never the less, if that’s all Americans can do, is just boo (or boo hoo) the President, then I guess Americans don’t have the balls to express themselves as they should, so that this monster could feel the real anger as well as hatred for him.

After futilely marching against this war before it began in March, 2003, it has been my belief that Dubya will leave the presidency under a hail of rocks, rotten tomatoes and rotten eggs, a fitting end to the worst President that this nation has ever had to endure.
