Clinton in Bosnia

The all-seeing eye of YouTube has once again asserted itself, catching Hillary Clinton in an exaggeration of her White House-era visit to Bosnia—a trip that was a bit less harrowing than we were led to believe.

The Clinton campaign has conceded that the candidate may have misspoken, “but there is no question if you look at contemporaneous accounts that she was going to a potential combat zone, that she was on the front lines.” Link

CBS was sufficiently moved by the use of its footage in the YouTube clip to do a follow-up story, confirming the claims of the Internet video:

Here’s the clip that got the ball rolling:

What About All Those Indictments?

And, oh......by the way. I am just curious. What do Obamabots have to say about the two Obama supporters and super delegates indicted this week?

1. Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice.

2. Puerto Rico Governor Anibal Acevedo Vila indicted on criminal charges related to campaign financing.

Oh gee.........the Obama campaign just keeps giving and giving..........presents that is to Republicans and John McCain to craft attack ads they can use to defeat Obama next November.

Re: What About All Those Indictments?

Bert:

Your list of Obama lies (below) is amazing.  In fact, I was going to do exactly what you did, but have not had the time of late.  As a related aside, you may have noticed that Cyrena has accused me and hinnis of being the same person.  Strange that she never did the same with you and me, since you and I think much more alike that hinnis and I do.

Great work on your part.  Brava.

As for additional Obama lies, I would simply add the most well-known and outrageous of them all.  During the South Carolina debate - in front of a TV audience of some 10 million people - Obama claimed that his “only” connection to “that man” (i.e., Rezko) was “5 hours” as a “junior attorney” spent on “one case.” Of course, as you note, it has since come out that “that man” was someone (i) who was one of his earliest political patrons, a person he spoke with regularly during his first campaign for state senate, (ii) with whom he co-purchased continguous real estate lots, leading to a very close working relationship for five or six months, and (iii) whom he accepted over a quarter of a million dollars in personal and bundled campaign donations - though, as you also note, Obama first claimed the amount was ~$80,000, then claimed it was ~$150,000 (the amount he offloaded to charity), but now claims was closer to $250,000 (which means he has kept at least $100,000).

For me, this lie - actually, series of lies - ranks highest on the list, though his lie about the Canada/NAFTA situation, his lie about Exelon (claiming to have passed legislation he never passed), and his lies vis-a-vis Wright come close.

Peace.

Yes,I moticed you had not been here, for a while. I figured it was Easter related. Glad to have you back.

The reason I left Rezko off was I thought I, and you, had already mentioned him so often and I wanted folks to know some of the other less obvious misspeaks.

But, of course, you are right.

Peace.

Re: What About All Those Indictments?

Bert, no question you have nailed a few things, there. I admit my partiality to Sen. Obama inclines me to view his transgressions as minor, forgivable, where the same “misstatement” by another politician, say Hillary or McPain, might send me off into paroxysms of accusation.  “Professorgate” has already been pretty much put to rest, by the U of C, no less.  The “single payer” gotcha doesn’t strike me as all that damning because he said if he could start from scratch…
But hey, you have every right to see these as horrible transgressions; if I didn’t like Obama so much I would, too.  On top of which, your revelations make me want to listen more carefully when he speaks and beware of being overly charmed. Thanks.

Jim Bob - It is nice to have some one here on Truth Dig who is so reasonable. And I know what you mean. We all think our candidate is good or we wouldn’t be supporting them. But at this stage in my life I realize a politician is a politicican, and they are not going to change. Left to their own devices they will all do what suits them. I expect no les. But as a good cotizen I let them know what I want. But I also realize there are many competing intrest in this country and I don’t always get what I want as fast as I want.

As an Obama supporter here, you are a breath of fresh air. And you are honest. I appreciate that. I know some people here think I hate Obama. I don’t. I just think their hero worship a bit over bearing at times. So when I think I see it here I try to let them know that, no, Obama is not perfect, he is like Hillary and every other politician on the face of the earth. A human being and as such not perfect.

Glad to make your acquaintence.  smile

Lies Part 3 For Jim Bob

7.  Several direct-mail pieces issued for Obama’s primary campaign said he was a law professor at the University of Chicago. He is not. He is a senior lecturer (now on leave) at the school. In academia, there is a vast difference between the two titles.

OOPS… lie

8.  Oh, and about that civil rights love story he spun regarding his mother and father, false, as well:
Mr. Obama relayed a story of how his Kenyan father and his Kansan mother fell in love because of the tumult of Selma, but he was born in 1961, four years before the confrontation at Selma took place. When asked later, Mr. Obama clarified himself, saying: “I meant the whole civil rights movement.”

OOPS… lie

I have more examples of Obama’s dissembling I am more than willing to share with you. But this should be a nice little appetizer for you to begin digesting Jim Bob.

Lies Part 2 For jJm Bob

4.  Rezko

For months Senator Obama insisted that Tony. Rezko was simply one of “thousands of donors” turned into an admission that this indicted political fixer was someone Senator Obama spoke to on the phone everyday when fundraising.

The Obama campaign’s regularly claimed that. Rezko only raised $150,000 turned into an admission reported that he in fact had raised at least $100,000 more than had previously been disclosed, bringing the donation to $250,000.

Obama for months insisted that Rezko simply loaned him some money to help purchase his house. Now he admits they toured the property together.

OOPS… caught lying again

5.  “…I will complete my U.S. Senate Term”

RUSSERT “Have you ruled out running for another office before your term is up?”

Obama answered, “It’s not something I anticipate doing.”

RUSSERT: Will you serve your six-year term as United States senator from Illinois?”

Obama “Absolutely. I will serve out my full six-year term.”

MR. RUSSERT: So you will not run for president or vice-president in 2008?
SEN. OBAMA: I will not.

Lies Part 1 for Jim Bob

Okey Doke JimBob. I have compiled a list of some of Obama’s lies, with documentation. And I have a lot more to share. This is by no means an exhaustive list.
“Uh, please give me chapter and verse on an Obama “misspeak” that comes
close to the blatancy and cynicism of Hillary’s Bosnia lie.”

1.  Obama bragged in the Iowa debate about the “nuclear legislation I’ve passed.” When he encountered resistance from the nuclear industry… including Illinois-based Excelon, the country’s largest nuclear plant operator and one of Mr. Obama’s largest sources of campaign money, he edited his bill several times, making it weaker each time. The bill, however, never passed. It died. In October 2007, Obama resubmitted the bill in its watered-down version.

OOPS… lie

2.  Senator Obama purports to be in favor of “universal” health care, utilizing private insurance, however, he adamantly denied advocating single payor. But there was a time when he was in favor of the single payor system.

OOPS… lie

http://video.aol.com/video-detail/obama-flip-flops-on- reverend-wright/2100981589

3.  Canadian RV reported that a senior member of Obama’s campaign, Austan Goolsbee, spoke directly with the Canadian Consulate General in Chicago to assure them that if Obama publicly spoke about opting out of NAFTA, they should not take it seriously.

Obama flatly denied the report, at least 7 different times. I have posted those quotes on a different thread at Truth Dig previously.

On March 4, the New York Times, among other sources, revealed that the conversation had indeed taken place, and published the memo..

Dougles Chalmers, Hillary’s tall-tales remind me of Reagan standing on the Berlin Wall with his axe or whatever the fuck he was doing, announcing to the world how he had beaten the Soviet Union. Events were actually driven by the vision of Mikhail Gorbachev.

Hillary, though her gender dominates your distorted quivering, is the female equivalent of a punk, a guy who says and does anything he feels like doing.

JimBob, Thank you for your well thought-out comments.
What makes you think my vote is a “protest vote?” This is not a Democrats-only board. The two Parties have failed fully in their obligations to defend the country fiscally and re: security. We’re living on credit-card spending via China’s eagerness to lend (Treasury Bonds). We place ourselves at risk by abusing our military with senseless activities, wearing-out personnel and equipment to a depleted state. Both Iraq and the maintenance of massive nuclear forces are activities in which we indulge at the expense of meeting hallmarks of an advanced society. You might think again about being party to the astonishing greed and cowardice which are embodied in both major Parties.

It’s an imperfect world, Joe.  I don’t see any reason to make it more imperfect than it needs to be by helping—in any small way—to elect another Republican in November.  To say, “I’m going to sit in the corner with my arms folded over my chest and my lower lip sticking out because the world isn’t perfect,” is...well, childish. Sorry, gotta call it like I see it, and yes, a vote for a sure loser is a protest vote.

This article characterizes Sen. Clinton’s comments
as “exaggeration.” In fact, this elaborate story,
repeated at different campaign stops, was an
outright lie in all of its many-detailed aspects. I
will be voting for neither Democrat so I don’t have
a rat in the maze here. Clinton’s desperation to
become President is becoming a warning sign to
uncommitted delegates, I believe. She is making the
same mistake other Democrats have made in recent
elections...not being herself. She is allowing a
spiraling fixation to overcome her natural, better tendencies.

Though I will support Paul, Nader or Gravel, depending on which is available on my home ballot, I’m sure either Hillary or Obama would lift the nation and the world community out of its present state of unease and hopeless poverty. Hillary, take the advice of this humble voter: forget the exciting pronouncements and meanness.  Be yourself.

Bert,

Your lame attempt to split hairs on the distinction between academic titles is totally inane.  The centerpiece of Clinton’s campaign is her bald lie that she possess vast foreign policy experience. Right, cutting ribbons and attending funerals makes her a major player in foreign policy.

On the other hand, Sen. Obama is NOT running for an academic position, so in this context any distinction between “senior lecturer” and “professor” is really trivial.

My post on Obama’s being a senior lecturer Vs a law professor was a reply made mostly for the benefit of Cyrena. It was not really an answer to whether or not Clinton “lied” or “misspoke.”

On a different thread I was challened to list why I support Hillary. One of my reasons was her expereince as a lawyer working for poor and disenfranchised, including a stint as a law professor.

Cyrena immediately called me a liar. But Maani was able to google it and find proof she was a law professor. Plus Cyrena is always touting Obama’s constitutional law professor bona fides.

But that turns out, not so much.

And one more thing, Cyrena. Obama is NOT a law professor. I repeat, Barak Obama is NOT a law professor.

According to Ltnn Sweet of the Chicago Sun Times:

“ Several direct-mail pieces issued for Obama’s primary campaign said he was a law professor at the University of Chicago. He is not. He is a senior lecturer (now on leave) at the school. In academia, there is a vast difference between the two titles.”

Re:

Obama/Rezco connection

Edward McClelland wrote February 1, 2008, in the online publication Salon:

Obama’s dealings with his hinky friend have never led him afoul of the law, but they show that, despite his high-minded politics, he was no purer — or no savvier — than Illinois’ biggest hacks in his weakness for a generous contributor. He wouldn’t even say no when Rezko cooked up a deal to help the newly elected senator buy a gracious Georgian-revival home.

Rezko, after all, built part of his fortune by exploiting the black community that Obama had served in the state Senate, and by milking government programs meant to benefit black-owned businesses. But Obama took Rezko’s money even after the businessman was sued by the city of Chicago for failing to heat his low-income apartments, and even after Rezko was caught using a black business partner to obtain a minority set-aside for a fast-food franchise at O’Hare Airport. ...

As long as Rezko was only under investigation, Obama was willing to do business with him. But then Rezko committed the fixer’s biggest sin: He got indicted and got his name in the papers. After that, the friendship cooled. Obama has donated $157,835 in Rezko-linked contributions to charity and has called the real estate deal “boneheaded.” But he still lives in the house. And he still has the power Rezko helped him attain.

Re: One More Lie Cyrena

Yes bert, SOME details do matter...JUST NOT THESE!

I’m actually very familiar with academia, and the difference between ‘titles’. Here in our neck of the woods, (not OHIO) the difference is between ‘associate professor’ as related to a full professorship, and has everything to do with tenure, which has everything to do with MONEY.

Still, my point..well made by logical, is that you just continue to reveal your petty psycho-pathology, like a kindergartener who has to have the last word, and must consider themselves to have WON, (just like Hillary has to WIN)even when it isn’t really a ‘win’ at all.

It’s not important whether Hillary or Obama were ever ‘professors of law’, because they aren’t running for such a job. It’s important (I think) that they KNOW the law, or at least know who to ask to clarify relevant legal points.

THAT is critical for any president, because had that been accomplished, the US would NOT be in Iraq. So, that’s pretty much more important, don’t you think, than whether either of them ever held a postion as a professor of law? Now I’ve heard course lectures on ‘THE LAW’ provided by Barack Obama. So, I know that he knows ‘THE LAW’.

I have to say (as I have before) that Hillary Clinton, though she is an attorney, must NOT know ‘THE LAW’ at least as it references foreign affairs or foreign policy. (she was after all a CORPORATE attorney with the Rose Law firm in Arkansas). So, as I’ve said before, in reference to THE LAW, as it applied to the decision to wage an illegal war on a sovereign nation, (Iraq)HRC either DIDN’T KNOW ‘The LAWS’...OR...she DID, and was perfectly willing to violate them.

So yes bert, “Details” DO MATTER!

The fact that Hillary couldn’t be so bothered with them has created the worst atrocities in the history of the US OR Iraq.

So, you can maintain your IED creations and continue to toss them at Obama, and if it makes you feel good..that’s OK. (I guess).

But, your ignorance is showing, and everyone can pretty much see it for exactly that.

Logical says you’re ‘splitting hairs’ and I’m more likely to say that like Maani, you’re picking the wings and legs off of flies or other bugs.

It’s really pathetic.

How compassionate of phony-Hillary to be greeted by this beautiful little Bosnian girl, and yet claim that this girl did not exist!

She’s done this again with the Palestinian children, whom she embraced and was photographed with, yet when she embraced the Zionist’s money machine, the Palestinians became non-existent. Has she uttered a single word about the Palestinian rights since she shamelessly embraced the Zionist marauders and occupiers?!

I’d rather stick with a devil I know well (Republicans) than a devil I will be forced to get to know for another five years (Democratic phony-Hillary)!

Only a third truly independent party might be the hope for this shattered country we call home.

You write:  “...and yet claim that this girl did not exist!”

Hillary never claimed the child did not exist.

She accurately describes the trip in her book, Living History:

‘Due to reports of snipers in the hills around the airstrip, we were forced to cut short an event on the tarmac…’ “Security conditions were constantly changing in the former Yugoslavia, and they had recently deteriorated again. Due to reports of snipers in the hills around the airstrip, we were forced to cut short an event on the tarmac with local children, though we did have time to meet them and their teachers and to learn how hard they had worked during the war to continue classes in any safe spot they could find. … We were then off to the fortified American base at Tuzla, where over two thousand American, Russian, Canadian, British, and Polish soldiers were encamped in a large tent city.” [Living History, p. 343]

Re: Reply to Fadel Abdallah

Bert…

You’re pretty amazing, and I’m semi-curious as to why you haven’t figured some stuff out by now. You go to the trouble to quote from an autobiography that hillary wrote…whenever, and you obviously didn’t bother to view the videos attached to the article, making it OVERWHELMINNGLY OBVIOUS, that Hillary LIED about the events of this trip to Bosnia.

SHE LIED BERT. THAT is the point, and it was a very RECENT LIE bert. AGAIN, that is the point. So why is it that you myopic and obsessive compulsive disorder folks believe that you can distract from the point, that Hillary has LIED AGAIN, by posting something (that could also be a lie – it IS an AUTO-biography) from years ago, when she just told THIS lie recently?

Geemenee…do you all not ‘GET’ that the more you finagle and twist and spin on myopic details, the more ATTENTION you bring to the CURRENT CRIME? The LYING? The LYING for NO GOOD REASON? I mean seriously, why make up such a lie in this case? What did she expect to gain from it? Proof of her experience? Does flying in a C130 with one’s daughter provide ‘proof’ of one’s experience to lead the nation?

I don’t get why she lied, and why people like you, make it that much worse by keeping the fact of the lie in the eyes of the media. (or anyone who reads these blogs).

Now if riding around in C130’s (or any other aircraft) in areas where gunfire or snipers happen to be makes one qualified to ‘lead’ as president, then hell, I could be the president. (I never had my daughter with me though)

But, I don’t think I’d be the best choice for the job.

Meantime, just concentrate on the LYING. If you can get Hillary to shut up, and stop digging her own political grave with all of these LIES and attacks on her fellow democrats, THAT would be some support.

Meantime, not to change the subject, but you’re still concerned about Rev. Wright’s business. So, find out for us what he was talking about when he visited with the Clintons IN THE WHITE HOUSE, back in 1998, and see if you can find out any other times he visited them there, and what they talked about then as well.

http://blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/2008/03/whats-new -12.html

We really don’t care about her book. Based on her frequent liar miles from the past few months, there’s no reason to believe what she wrote then either.

She ‘accurately describes in her book’?

Right.

For the defenders of Hillary, it might have been a misspoken statement, no big deal, Kerry tried to pretend he was a war hero, Gore invented the Internet and grew up on a farm, Bill never had sex with that woman, there is a good case for WMD,s, and we dont torture, the point is they all lie, even Obama, and what I see here is your willing to overlook his lies, and misstatements yet drag everyone else on the carpet..

This is true. Below are portions of two newspaper articles about the trip written on 1996. Both indicate ot was a dangerous place to be.

[Washington Post, 3/26/96]

Hillary’s trip to Bosnia marked the first time since Eleanor Roosevelt that a first lady traveled to a potential combat zone. Accompanied by singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow and comedian Sinbad, Mrs. Clinton traveled to this northwestern Bosnian town on a morale-boosting tour for the 18,500 U.S. troops participating in the NATO-led peacemaking operation. She heard a poem of peace from a Bosnian girl and praised U.S. troops for ’showing what American leadership is.’…This trip to Bosnia marks the first time since Roosevelt that a first lady has voyaged to a potential combat zone. During World War II, Roosevelt toured the devastated streets of London and the southwestern Pacific, bringing cheer to U.S. troops.
AND

[Charleston Gazette, 3/26/96]
Hillary was ‘protected by sharpshooters’ in a ‘military zone’ when she visited troops in Bosnia. “Protected by sharpshooters, Hillary Rodham Clinton swooped into a military zone by Black Hawk helicopter Monday to deliver a personal ‘thank you, thank you, thank you’ to U.S. troops. ‘They’re making a difference,’ the first lady said of the 18,500 Americans working as peacekeepers in Bosnia. Mrs. Clinton became the first presidential spouse since Eleanor Roosevelt to make such an extensive trip into what can be considered a hostile area, though others have visited hot spots…”

According to Douglas Chalmers,
“As you may have guessed by now, Sinbad isn’t supporting Clinton for president. He’s an Obama guy....”
the only thing that counts is to identify Obama supporters. The way he does that ,cleverly, is to point out mercilessy at those who tell the truth about Hillary.
Good method, Doug, protect your copy right.

Oh !!! And Obama has never misspoke or pumped up his resume or, gee, OMG lied?

Below are just a few. There is not enough room in this small space to fit all of them in.

1.Several direct-mail pieces issued for Obama’s primary campaign said he was a law professor at the University of Chicago. He is not. He is a senior lecturer (now on leave) at the school. In academia, there is a vast difference between the two titles. Details matter. ... ..

2. Mr. Obama scolded Exelon and federal regulators for inaction and introduced a bill to require all plant owners to notify state and local authorities immediately of even small leaks. He has boasted of it on the campaign trail, telling a crowd in Iowa in December that it was “the only nuclear legislation that I’ve passed.”

“I just did that last year,” he said, to murmurs of approval.

A close look at the path his legislation took tells a very different story. While he initially fought to advance his bill, even holding up a presidential nomination to try to force a hearing on it, Mr. Obama eventually rewrote it to reflect changes sought by Senate Republicans, Exelon and nuclear regulators. The new bill removed language mandating prompt reporting and simply offered guidance to regulators, whom it charged with addressing the issue of unreported leaks. (Is that why they donated so much money to his campaign? Hummm. I wonder.)
Those revisions propelled the bill through a crucial committee.

But, contrary to Mr. Obama’s comments in Iowa, it ultimately died amid parliamentary wrangling in the full Senate. ... ..

Hey, but let’s not nitpick.

These are just a few. EVERY politician has them. So get off Hillary’s case and let’s start debating the real issues in this campaign.

"Come on Jake,

its Chinatown(Washington DC).”

Politicians were built to lie, this particular Clinton voicebox has her masters degree in misspoke. Next.

It would serve Obama well to seek John Edwards for Attorney General.

Hillary's nitpickers...........LOL

Thanks, TruthDig, but we already know where to find the NYTimes Caucus blog, uhh. And the story has already been blogged at length on DailyKos so you are a little behind....... http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/3/22/211412/654/668 /482425

Hillary Clinton’s Walter Mitty Moment.....

The problem is that they are now accusing Hillary of “...knowing you’re a target but nonetheless pulling to your chest an 8 year old girl and allow your daughter to stand by your side...” as the ceremony took place on the tarmac.

Thus it is the NYTimes/DKos “Walter Mitty moment” as they deliriously nitpick and re-interpret being in fear of being shot - although they were never there.........

In fact, if there had been sniper fire, there are few things more callous than knowing you’re a target but nonetheless pulling to your chest an 8 year old girl and allow your daughter to stand by your side:

Of course, Clinton wasn’t using the 8 year old, Emina Bicakcic, as a human flak vest.  She didn’t have to, because “‘[th]ere is peace now,’ Emina told Clinton, according to [reporter John] Pomfret’s report in the Washington Post the following day, ‘because Mr. Clinton signed it. All this peace. I love it.’ “

But, a former Clinton staffer gives her impression of the trip:

I was on the plane with then First Lady Hillary Clinton for the trip from Germany into Bosnia in 1996. We were put on a C17-- a plane capable of steep ascents and descents—precisely because we were flying into what was considered a combat zone. We were issued flak jackets for the final leg because of possible sniper fire near Tuzla. As an additional precaution, the First Lady and Chelsea were moved to the armored cockpit for the descent into Tuzla. We were told that a welcoming ceremony on the tarmac might be canceled because of sniper fire in the hills surrounding the air strip. From Tuzla, Hillary flew to two outposts in Bosnia with gunships escorting her helicopter.

Re: Hillary's nitpickers...........LOL

Who needs the NYT Caucas blog, or any of the rest?

Doesn’t this sort of prove the point?

She’s a L-I-A-R

Never mind the extra smear with the girl and the fact that she had her daughter with her. Of course folks are gonna add that. After all, a handful of you all do it to Obama every day, several times a day. Like the Wright thing?

So no...skip that. That isn’t even the point. Here’s the point, and if you missed it, watch the videos again…

Hillary LIED!! And, it was a WHOPPER!!

(and, only one of many).

Re:

As Sinbad put it: “What kind of president would say, ‘Hey, man, I can’t go ‘cause I might get shot so I’m going to send my wife...oh, and take a guitar player and a comedian with you.’”

As you may have guessed by now, Sinbad isn’t supporting Clinton for president. He’s an Obama guy....

Well, Doug, he is a comedian so I guess he was trying to make a funny.

I read some where else he supposedly said, “I felt safe on that trip.” Yeah, dude. You were protected by the U.S. Military, the same one protecting Hillary and Chelsa.
