Obama Goes to BollywoodPosted on Feb 28, 2008
Now, mind you, this is not an officially endorsed campaign video for Barack Obama. But we kind of wish it was. Watch it:

I was dancing to it while my colleagues are busy at a meeting two doors down. Hope they didn’t see that!
Anyway, I look forward to Stephen Colbert saying to Obama “shame on you” for stealing his idea and following it with a Bollywood presentation of his own (my prediction).

Now he is sure in trouble. If Obama message is like bollywood movies, he can kiss goodbye to his preseidential hope, because like bollywood movies, it will make no sense, except you can sing and dance, without making any sense.

This has been posted to Huffington Post and Salon in the past few months, and the reactions have been both extreme and ludicrous. Some purported supporters of Obama have reacted angrily towards it, saying it just feeds the meme that Obama is some exotic non American Muslim (the complete ignorance of India and that is largely a Hindu country is fascinating). They also go on to say the video is racist because Obama is linked to Indians because of his color!
I found such posts both amusing and frightening in their inability to “lighten up”, calling the video “offensive, pointless, poorly made, and damaging.” Now all sorts of ignorant fools are on the internet, but this kind of reaction is wholly disproportionate to how much fun the video actually is.
Anyways, two thumbs up!

By the way, the song comes from a rather bad movie called, “The Guru.” Here is a clip of the original song as performed in the movie. Oh, the wonders of youtube:

For you Jaded Prole, and others who may be interested, a colleague of mine who happens to be Indian informed me that this video is a play on Indian romantic films. The common theme in these films is a man trying to court or woo a beautiful woman who at first resists until she is finally won over. In this particular song, he is basically saying “we will love each other, but secretly… come (to me)”, or something to that effect. This particular theme song is from a movie about an Indian man who migrates to the US and falls in love with an American woman.

If Obama can inspire something like this McCain doesn’t stand a chance.

My goodness! This is hilarious! I’m not sure if this will add fuel to the fire for those red meat conservatives, but I’m not worried. This is too funny for controversy. Hah!

Entertaining indeed. I wish I was fluent in Hindi so I could understand the message.
