Obama, Clinton on ‘60 Minutes’Posted on Feb 11, 2008
Americans have had to contend with dozens of speeches, debates and commercials comparing and contrasting the Democratic candidates, and still they can’t get enough. After all, this election is a ratings winner, but that’s to be expected when a rock star, a political celebrity and Grandpa Simpson all run for president. When is Mr. Kroft going to interview Larry Sinclair about Obama’s crack habit.

Just vote for Obama, and all the bad things will go away!

Yup, you said it, Jeanine. The erosion of our civil rights by the Bush/Cheney kabal should be top priority by the next administration. Obama and Hillary should be all over this one. We’ve heard some promises from Hillary but the media doesn’t nearly hammer both candidates on this issue.

“Both candidates should be forced to address the multitude of substantive issues, not the least of which is a FULL RESTORATION OF ALL CIVIL RIGHTS…”
You said it, Jeanine! This is even more important that the Iraq War and the bad economy combined. What Democrats or Republicans have stated that this is the MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE! None! They are all hoping we will forget about it and go away.
The Democrats, especially, should be screaming their heads off over this issue. Bush & Thugs RAPED our Constitution!
Make the politicians take a stand now! No position is more important that restoring our liberties!
The public wants all the Bush criminals put in jail.

So Jeanine,
Quite a rant, and a long, long, long tale of something that has been happening for..let’s see, maybe 200 or so years? At least to a significant portion of the population? Ever done a little background investigation on the differences in how the law treats women as opposed to men in prison, or in the CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM OVERALL?
You write like this is some new thing you’ve described. It isn’t, but I’m glad it got your attention.
SO, should we blame either of these candidates for that? How about whatever allowed such inequalities to begin with? Think we might ever get around to addressing any of that?
Yeah, the Fascism and Nazism is far worse now, if only because it’s happening to more people…so it got your attention. And if you think the media today, anywhere, is going to pose any of these questions to ANY candidate, then you’re definitely in the rabbit hole.

Steve Kroft treated Obama with the respect due a candidate for president, asking intelligent, issue-based questions.
Katie Couric not only asked trivial, demeaning questions of Hillary Clinton, but asked almost as many questions about Barack Obama as she did about Ms. Clinton’s own campaign and policy issues. It was amateur hour at its worst. And please, does the camera have to be on Couric as often as it is on the person she is interviewing? Couric did everything but giggle girlishly and flip her hair. Ugh.
It was very lopsided treatment of the two candidates, and very typical of 60 Minutes. I wonder if the late Ed Bradley would have been the Obama interviewer, had he still been alive, so that 60 Minutes could have had “black on black” and “woman on woman” symmetry.
By the way, I am an Obama supporter. But this program was unfair to an extreme degree.

Only time for a shortie comment here and now. I didnt get to see the second part of Hillary anyway, because it was really difficult listening/watching thru part 1.
Still, from what I did see, its almost like Clinton got the short end of the stick here, since Obama had Mike Wallace, and Hillary got stuck with Katie, asking exceedingly stupid questions. Water, tea, diet drinks, hand washing, and on and on. PUHlease that has exactly WHAT to do with how many more will become homeless tomorrow, and how much more of Iraq will be destroyed, and how many more innocent people will die there? But, maybe she gets to that eventually Ill try looking at the rest later.
Meantime though, shes still a pathetic sort of a case, with the part that we cant blame on Katie. Shes totally delusional, because she wont even CONSIDER the possibility that she might not win the election. And, she had several chances to revamp her answer to that, and she continued to make it clear that SHE BELIEVES and so of course, it is. She says she just CANT accept or entertain anything else, because for her, its just a matter of confidence in ones leadership abilities. Anybody who entertains any thoughts that his or her competition might ALSO have these skills and abilities, should simply leave the field as far as shes concerned. So, shes either extremely delusional, to the extent that she simply will NOT accept or even consider any of the standard realities of ANY competition, or shes just so incredibly self-centered that for her, nothing or no one else even exists.
So, instead of ever even CONSIDERING possible alternatives or consequences, or outcomes, or scenarios Hillary just BELIEVES in herself. Thats what she tells herself every morning, and as long as SHE believes it, it pretty much doesnt seem to matter what the American citizens are thinking or asking, or concerning themselves with. I mean, SHES decided whats important, and what shes gonna pay attention to, and wed just better go on and get used to it, because SHES gonna be the next decider. Because, shes gonna be ready to get to work on day one.
Yep, pretty pathetic. BUT not to be written off by any means. Matter of fact, the reality, (which I suspect she may very well entertain, regardless of what shes saying here) means that shes gotta be getting closer and closer to desperation. Desperate people do desperate things, and weve already had a preview of the dirty tricks she can perform.
So, Im damn sure not going to underestimate her, especially as it becomes clearer and clearer, that she wont be able to win the contest WITHOUT performing nasty tricks.
Meantime, Obama is looking better and better
My quibbles with him are very minor in the grand scheme of things…

Personally, I don’t need to view these videos; nor do I want to. Both candidates should be forced to address the multitude of substantive issues, not the least of which is a FULL RESTORATION OF ALL CIVIL RIGHTS. All over the country, police and mercenary companies such as Blackwater and Infragard are abusing citizens and trampling our Bill of Rights. I just viewed a video from Stark County, Ohio, where a woman calling the police for HELP, was taken away without cause, violently strip searched, and then charged with ‘disorderly conduct’ and ‘resisting arrest.’ The pig police claimed that this woman wouldn’t strip voluntarily. NEITHER WOULD I. THIS WOMAN WAS EMOTIONALLY RAPED BY THESE PIGS CALLED COPS. HOW WOULD SEN. CLINTON OR SEN. OBAMA FEEL IF THEIR DAUGHTERS HAD BEEN TREATED THIS WAY. NOT EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE. THIS WAS FASCISM AND NAZISM AT IT’S PRIME. THESE PIGS CALLED COPS SHOULD BE JAILED THEMSELVES! IF OBAMA AND CLINTON WANT MY VOTE; THEY BETTER RESTORE OUR RIGHTS AND REIGN IN THESE FASCISTS BY ARRESTING THESE BASTARD COPS.
