France Catches Colonial FeverPosted on Feb 10, 2008
The Mosaic Intelligence Report investigates France’s aggressive new push to involve itself in the Middle East. The French have signed a deal to set up a permanent military base in the Persian Gulf region, the first such facility controlled by a Western nation that isn’t led by George W. Bush. How did a former colonial power that knew better than to back the Iraq invasion become so interested in sending troops to the Middle East? You’ll have to ask Nicholas Sarkozy, or watch the video below. For more, check out Mosaic’s Web site. Advertisement CommentsAre you a Truthdig member yet? Login now, or register with Truthdig. ...in hegemony? What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. However, with his 500 soldiers, as we say in France, it’s just Sarko trying to “peter plus haut qu’il a le trou du cul.”

As the world becomes more and more multi-polar, we will struggle more and more to keep our perceived right to hegemony…and we will fail.
So long American Empire, we hardly knew you…mostly because we refused to admit that you exist.

Always remember Laurel and Hardy in the Foreign Legion, France got their butt burned in Vietnam, now that I think of it so did we.

Maybe France will take Iraq off our hands like we took Viet Nam off theirs.

It seems that while Bush was doing the sword dance, Sarkozy was cashing on the mistrust countries in the Middle East have for the U.S. Also, recently the Russians have activated their naval base in Tartous, Syria, something to keep an eye on.
