Latino voters have become a major force in American politics, especially in the Democratic primary. Although these Spanish-language ads from Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are similar in theme to the two presidential candidates’ other TV spots, the music adds a little sabor.

Beyond the soundtracks, the ads have some differences.

Hillary’s commercial seeks to play up the idea that she is a friend to the Latino community—the title of the ad is “nuestra amiga”—while Barack’s reminds the viewer that he is the son of an immigrant.

Oh, and one of them delivers the “I approve this message” line en español, but you’ll have to watch to find out who.

Obama is the candidate of the future. One in which peoples of all races, creeds, colors and religions will have the same opportunities, the same freedom, and the same peace.

It’s time for America to start teaching Spanish as a second language to all U.S. citizens. We are one of the only developed nations on earth that refuses to become bi-lingual, mostly because of Republican nationalists who use this issue to try and scare xenophobes into thinking that by including others culture into our own, we lose our natonal identity. People like Lou Dobbs, and Pat Buchanan have done more to spread a message of hate and fear than even the wildest of Muslim haters.

Division isn’t patriotism, it’s fascism. It’s un-American.

I applaude Obama for actually doing a good job of pronounciation of the message at the end. It shows he’s the one willing to reach across the divide to bring America together to solve our common problems and celebrate our differences.

Conjuntos. Si, se puede! (Together. Yes, we can!)

P.S. If you are an English speaking American, and you haven’t learned to speak a little Spanish, yet… do yourself, and your kids UN FAVOR. (a favor) It’s the most beautiful language of all, and it’s easier than you can even imagine.

Obama in ‘08 (Viva la revolution!)

Well, I didn’t watch them both, (just the one with Obama) and he’s speaking English, so it’s the same thing we heard from his Victory speech in S.C.

Now, if his is the one that says “I endorse this message” then I don’t know it, because I can’t read Spanish, and I can’t understand more than a few words in Spanish.

Either way, it doesn’t matter, because it appears to be a California ad, and all of the Latino’s that can vote in California, already know how to speak English. (at least the ones I know).

So actually, this was just a nice touch to come across in what is another well established language in the U.S., and has been for as long as I can remember. It’s not because the viewers can’t understand English though. At least the Hispanics I know can understand the written and spoken (English) language way better than the current President can.

So, maybe I should watch it a few more times, just to practice my Spanish. It wouldn’t hurt to learn it.
