‘Daily Show’: Bush Channels Woody Allen in Saudi ArabiaPosted on Jan 18, 2008
Jon Stewart just might be onto something with his analysis of how oil-pricing fluctuations happen—just watch as President Bush (doing his best impression of a certain notoriously neurotic New Yorker), perhaps aware of his diminishing bargaining power in the twilight months of his presidency, bravely speaks on behalf of American oil consumers during his recent Mideast sojourn.

Of COURSE the show will suffer if Jon refuses to go on. That’s the whole point. Without writers, shows like the DAILY SHOW are nothing.
As Jon Stewart sees it, he’s contractually obligated to appear as a performer. He shouldn’t be writing, though, and neither should his staff, and they are clearly writing, unless Stewart is ad-libbing bits and his producers are frantically pulling clips to show behind him that just happen to perfecty illustrate his points.
A scab is someone who does struck work (like writing during a writer’s strike) for a struck company (like Viacom).
I know he’s in a tough spot, and I know he thinks he’s on the side of the writers. Stewart’s problem (and Colbert’s, as well) is that he can’t bring himself to do a crappy show, which is what he would get without writers. He made his choice. Alas, it’s the choice to scab.

Don’t you think if Jon Stewart refuses to go on the show will suffer for the worse? The producers keep the “daily show” name and overhaul it with new writers, on-air talent, etc. and the writers are worse off than now. I don’t sympathize with John Oliver but Stewart going on and doing his thing absent sketches and monologues best serves the show and those who work for it in the long run. The scabs are folks like Leno who run the show as if there isn’t a strike going on and who have all the leverage in the world at their disposal but fail to use it. Sticky situation. I would love for shows and their writers to call it quits really stick it to the producers but unfortunately things aren’t that simple.

He’s funny, and I know it’s a downer to mention it, but John Stewart and his correspondents (John Oliver, I’m looking at you) are crossing their own picket line to write this show. Stewart, Colbert, and others are encouraging others to cross the WGA picket line to appear on their shows.
John Stewart, Stephen Colbert. and their staffs are prolonging the strike while getting paid to do struck work for struck companies while their union brothers and sisters are out of work.
This, sadly, makes them scabs. Don’t support them.

Bush is a cancer male apparently… and I’ve always thought of him as a cancer on society.

I’ve always known that Bush’s swagger was a put-on. He’s a cancer male. Find a good book on astrology and read about cancer males.

Now there’s something I’d pay good money to see, GW sobbing under Woody Allen’s victorious foot. The loudest blowhards are always the biggest wimps.

Missing Stewart imitate Bush will be sad after Bush leaves office...but it will be a riot until he leaves! I’ll be happy to see Bush leave, but sad to know Stewart will have to not have him to caricature. (Bush himself does a good enough job of that anyway...)
Focus on the positive. A full year of Stewart lampooning Bush! Every dark cloud has a silver lining.
