Ron Paul on Leno
youtube.com

What was up with Fox News excluding Ron Paul from Sunday’s Republican debate?  Jay Leno puzzles over the network’s decision, and Paul posits some answers:  He’s a “strict constitutionalist” and anti-Iraq war.  Leno points out that Paul’s a “Republican.”  But as for Fox News higher-ups, the Texas politician responds, “They’re not.”

Manny,

IF you actually listened to Ron Paul talk, as I have, in any debate, meeting or in and public setting that has ever been recorded you will find that he does not speak in simplistic terms as the 5 “quotes” you cited. In fact, the 5 “quotes” seem to come from a more uneducated simple minded person. In order for these words to come from Ron Paul he would have to “dumb down” his way of speaking to get to this level. They are simply not his words. Again, Ron Paul is not this simplistic, nor does he group people together. “Hate Whitey Day”?? If you actually think Ron Paul would use the term “Whitey” you have NEVER listened to the man.

I completely agree with you Kahoneez and I also do not think Ron Paul is a racist.  If Ron Paul IS a racist why aren’t there any tapes, audio or video of him uttering racists remarks?  He has been a public figure since 1974 and this is all the evidence there is?  Further, if Ron Paul IS a racist, how come nobody who knows him personally, has worked with him in Congress, is his neighbor etc has come out and said that he is a racist?

Also, why did the President of the NAACP in Austin, Texas just say over the weekend Ron Paul is NOT a racist in a radio interview?

http://www.nolanchart.com/article1134.html

It doesn’t make sense… Racism, quite simply, is the opposite to his libertarian philosophy and it makes no sense for someone so steeped in the concepts of natural rights and individual liberty and so ANTI-COLLECTIVISM to engage in racism.

These newsletters do have some ugly things said in them but the bulk of what TNR quotes is out of context and is more politically incorrect than racist.

An example of this:

Example TNR Posted this “quote”:

“Opinion polls show only 5% of blacks have sensible political opinions.”

The newsletter ACTUALLY said the following:

“Opinion polls show only 5% of blacks have sensible political opinions, i.e. support the free market, individual liberty, the end of welfare and affirmative action.  I know many who fall into this group personally, and they deserve credit—not as representatives of a racial group, but as decent people.”

There are plenty of other examples of that.  Quotes taken out of context are useless indictments.

Did anyone watch Shelby Steele (fellowship at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution) interviewed by Bill Moyers this weekend? He just wrote a book about Obama called “The Bound Man” and they had a very engaging conversation about race in America that is worth watching.

Link: http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/01112008/watch2.html

Interesting quote from Shelby: “You know, it’s no accident that 92 percent of blacks vote Democratic in every Presidential election no matter what. The black identity is identified today with liberal politics and the Democratic Party. If you’re not a Democrat, you’re not all together black.”

Now is that quote much different from what Ron Paul said?

Another interesting take on race in America, the liberal media, and the bigger picture of race in America by Walter Williams who is black, libertarian economics professor at GMU.

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=59371

Now if that article doesn’t raises a lot of questions for you, then you aren’t thinking.

There is, as always, something bigger going on.

As abhorrent as his racial statements are, IF true, there are bigger and even more important issues that he brings up , that are vital and desperately needed .
We need to hear , that both parties are participating in this Resource War, bush has escalated . Both parties have gone along with the Anti-patriot Act , that has diminished our freedoms and now we have to have authorization via a National ID Card, to fly or enter government buildings .
With so few willing to stand up against the Council on Foreign Relations , that Both parties belong to, the group that thinks, Monetary Sovereignty should END . Go to CCR.org , they actually advocate one dollar for North America and World .
There is a danger at our doorsteps , and Ron Paul recognizes U.S. war on the middle east, occupation of Muslim lands will guarantee MORE wars , more costs for the American People in BLOOD AND MONEY and lost of freedom .
Wanna hang your future on comments from the past and sing Kumbaya , go ahead , because when this police state fully develops, Blacks; Latinos; and whites who don’t follow in lock step with the Federal Government will be on the SAME enemies list . It’s your choice, I’ll take fighting for out freedom and the future .

THANK YOU MANNY!!

I’ve been saying this for months, but nobody wanted to believe me. Having lived in his ‘territory’ for many years, I know EXACTLY what Ron Paul is about!!

He’s also an authoritarian, NOT a Libertarian. NOR is he a Constitutionalist. All he’s done (and it’s documented by his congressional record) is to try to break it down.

As for him blasting Fox. Barack Obama started his own boycott of Fox at least a year ago, if not longer. And, he does it with such class and style.

Ron Paul is nothing more that a white supremacist without the sheet. Sad thing is, enough people are fooled, that they’d probably still make excuses for him, even if he whipped it out of his closet and put it on.

Interestingly, the Democratic Party has a much better history than the Republican Party in terms of keeping government small and budgets balanced. Perhaps Ron Paul (and libertarians in general) would do better in the Democratic Party. After all, it is the party of Jefferson, who was a very libertarian thinker. It is also the party of Grover Cleveland, who vetoed bills for which he could not find a constitutional delegated power. The Democratic Party used to be the party of State’s Rights, a concept which unfortunately has been unfairly smeared as “racist.” While it is true that some Southern Democrats used “state’s rights” as a way of unjustly denying equal rights to blacks, this does not make the whole concept illegitimate. Ron Paul, a Constitutionalist, would restore most decision making power to the states on such difficult social issues as abortion and gay marriage.

All in all, I think libertarians, if they can’t get a third party movement going (they can’t—no one can), would find a better home in the Democratic Party.

Ron Paul has a very bigoted past.  Check out the 1/8/08 article at The New Republic called “Angry White Man” in which Ron Paul’s white supremacy/homophobia is highlited.  Ron Paul’s newsletter contained these little jewels:
1.  (regarding the LA riots) “Order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks three days after rioting began”
2.  (regarding Regan’s creation of MLK day) “We can thank him for our annual Hate Whitey Day.”)
3.  “Homosexuals, not to speak of the rest of society, were far better off when social pressure forced them to hide their activities.”
4.  “Opinion polls consistently show only about 5% of blacks have sensible political opinions.”
5.  “If you have ever been robbed by a black teen-aged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be.”

I’m sick of Bob Scheer and others lumping this guy in with Kucinich and other non-wackos.

Cybersluth58,

Thank you for making this point. I have ranted and raved about this very same thing – the comparison of Paul and Kucinich, and on this same site, until I’m blue in the face. I can’t THINK of a worse insult to the character and integrity of Dennis Kucinich.

EVERY single point youÂ’ve made about RP is damn right on the money, (though not HIS)!!

What burns me ALMOST as much as the comparison to Kucinich, is the consistent claim that he is a “Constitutionalist”. That is total bullshit, and anyone who has even a clue about the workings of the Constitution would KNOW, that anyone determined to UNDERMINE or overturn basic components of the Constitution, is HARDLY a strict Constitutionalist.

So in reality, heÂ’s just a bigoted hypocrite. And, he and Leno are both slumming. Leno has crossed the picket line, (shame on him) and doesnÂ’t have any writers, so he has to invite some scumbag like RP on the show, despite the fact that his is an allegedly progressive and liberal type agenda. (Leno)

Meantime, RP is obviously willing to prostitute himself for any reason, since he probably NEVER watches this show, and doesnÂ’t allow it to be viewed in his house or office. IÂ’ll bet every million he has in his pocket, that he doesnÂ’t watch the show, or allow anyone else to, with his authoritarian patriarchal backward-ass mentality.

Off with BOTH of their heads!!!

But I had little left in my vocal chords so I only whimpered.

At what point will I loose even that ability? At what point will I just relent and let money and media totally decide to choose for me? They have already chosen who will be chosen; my depression deepens by the day.

Um, aren’t the writers still on strike? Paul was the first presidential candidate to cross a picket line in December when he appeared on “The View”. Now he follows Huckabee’s example by going on Leno. I understand that Paul’s right-libertarian ideology is opposed to workers rights, but don’t bring Kucinich’s name up when you’re crossing a picket line. Shameful.

Why group Paul and Kucinich together? I keep seeing Paul characterized as a quasi-progressive on progressive sites. Paul is NO progressive! His immigration policies are nothing less than draconian. And his answer to the health care crisis leaves the existing (corrupt) structure intact. He favors Health Savings Accounts, meaning the working poor would lose once again. (HSA’s are a favorite of the right wing bc they keep the benefits in the hands of those who can afford them. This also, btw, keeps the fee structure in place, too). Paul is a millionaire MD who is watching out for his own wallet - not for the needs of those who cannot afford care under our current system. Granted, Paul is an improvement over Bush and company - but just about anyone is. (Christian right candidates excluded).  Kucinich, on the other hand, espouses traditionally progressive ideals and seems to be in this to improve life for all, even the disenfranchised. He will never be elected bc he is a big threat to those who pull the strings in this world - dems and republicans. Too bad. He is what this country needs so desperately.

Amen Expat, I would love to see a Ron Paul-Dennis Kucinich ticket on policies alone!

1) During the New Hampshire Debate, Ron Paul stated that the reason Islamic terrorists attack the US is because we occupy their land, not because “They hate our freedom.” Fellow GOPers scoffed at Dr. Paul’s reasoning then repeatedly drumbeat the nebulous terms “War on Terror’ and ‘Radical Islam’. Yet five years before 9/11…

In Osama bin Laden’s <u>1996</u> “Declaration of War Against the Americans Occupying the Land of the Two Holy Places.”

“Bin LadinÂ’s declaration outlined the complaints of the memorandum, which include: the intimidation of religious officials, the regimeÂ’s arbitrary departure from Sharia, the state of the press, the forfeiture of human rights, the governmentÂ’s corruption, the poor state of the economy and social services, and an army that could not defend the country and which ultimately led to the American occupation.”

http://meria.idc.ac.il/journal/2001/issue4/jv5n4a3.htm

2) Ron Paul stated that inflation is the real cause of US economic woes - inflation due to excessive printing of US Dollars, inequitable trade policies, government overspending, etc. Again his fellow GOPers scoffed. Yet in the last 50 years…

1957 to 2007, simple daily costs have skyrocketed relative to wages:
Postage stamp inflated from .03 to .41 implying the then $1 minimum wage today should be $13.66
Gasoline inflated from .24 to $3 implying minimum wage today should be $12.50
Bread inflated from .19 to $2.50 implying minimum wage today should be $13.16
Average annual income then $4,494 inflating at 5.156%, the average inflation rate of the above items, implies the average annual individual income should equal $58,863 or $28.30 per hour today.

Some argue that raising the minimum wage would raise prices but clearly prices inflated despite oppressed wages. So where does our wealth go?

The wealthy top 1% share more than 21% of all income while the poorer 50% share just 12.8% according to the IRS. And the population receiving below 50% of the national median income is 17% in the US, more than double that of Germany, Switzerland, France, Japan and 35% higher than Canada.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poverty_in_the_United_States

3) Same old drumbeat ‘The US has the best health care in the world’ bullshite. The World Health Organization has rated our health care system near forty over all for decades except for one consistent category where we are number one, cost. Dennis Kucinich wants to take care of America first so we’re the envy of the world again.

http://www.dennis4president.com/go/issues/a-healthy-nation/

4) “When you hear Ron Paul say that he stands for the Philosophy of Liberty, this is what he means.”

By the time of the final TV debates in November, the two remaining candidates will both say they want to “end the war,” but the moderators will make sure that no one makes them answer exactly when and how.  Both will be more or less tacitly committed to a 10-year occupation, cleverly labeled by other words.  Both will pledge to increase military benefits and “preparedness” (weapons industry patronage wins votes).  Both will claim that their opponent is “too soft” on this or that impending threat.  There will be a lot of fear-mongering and very little elucidation of policies or programs.  Murdoch, Fox, and the WSJ will get a winner who behaves pretty much the way they want.

MSM is an accessory to the crimes. Murdock is just one of the uglier parts of the ‘flat screen’ crime syndicate.

Media drives the getaway car that hopes you’ve got a bad memory andADD. Otherwise its more difficult to continue to commit crimes in broad daylight, just ask Silverstein?
