border protest
indybay.org

About 30 demonstrators taking part in a three-day, bi-national “No Borders Camp” protest were attacked Sunday by about 100 Border Patrol officers at the end of the last day, The San Diego Independent Media Center charged.  The media center said that the officers used pepper gas, tazers and batons, beating two or three demonstrators severely and detaining three.

Brown Beret - you’re calling others ignorant and arrogant?  Europeans out of America?  Guess what, buddy - Mexico belonged to Spain until the settlers declared independce and fought a war with Spain!  Somewhat how we fought with Mexico for the land we now have.  Do you see the hypocrisy in what you’re saying?  US land belongs to Mexico just about as much as Mexican land belongs to Spain.  You lost, get over it!

Oh, and by the way, you do realize that Spain is in the European continent, right?  So any spanish settlers and their descendents would be European, and by your own statement you should go back to Europe if that is your own heritedge.

And to think that you feel like YOU should be calling others dumbasses….

FYI: I found (in a brief search) no link to any 60 percent overstay figure (I heard that figure on a Lou Dobbs/CNN hosted broadcast but cannot find a transcript).

Here are some of what people say. (Some site the INS. You try and find an INS figure at their website. You can find figures… for 1996, but it is not easy.)

This specifically refers to legal immigration, not illegal; the INS estimates that 60 percent of the 275,000 annual increase in the illegal population comes from visa overstays.
—MARK KRIKORIAN, Spring 1999, Volume XIV Number 2
http://www.abanet.org/publiced/focus/immcriteria.html

The most recent estimate of the INS is that about 40 percent of the nine to eleven million illegal alien residents in the United States originally entered the country with nonimmigrant visas.
—FAIR: Preventing Visa Overstays
http://www.fairus.org/site/PageServer?pagename=iic_immigrationissuecenters3c6a

The Immigration Service says of the 12 million illegals in this country, at least half entered the country legally.

According to the Immigration Service, in 2005 there were 5.4 million temporary visas issued, and 17 percent went to Mexicans. That’s about three quarters of a million people. Not all of them are overstays, but it appears it is a very large number, in as much as somehow six million overstay illegals are in the country now.
—Are Over Half of Illegal Immigrants in U.S. Visa Overstays? - John Gibson
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,198298,00.html

Estimates are that something like as much as 40 percent—maybe 30 to 40 percent—of the illegal alien population is made up of overstays. So we are talking about maybe 4 million or more people among the illegal aliens are visa overstays.
—Mr. Mark Krikorian, Executive Director, Center for Immigration Studies
http://commdocs.house.gov/committees/intlrel/hfa27480.000/hfa27480_0f.htm

Yet visa overstayers are a very, very tiny piece of the security picture. Very few visa overstayers are terrorists, and focusing too many resources on visa overstayers means that we neglect more effective measures such as improving our intelligence capacity. Going after all visa overstayers is not a cost-effective way to stop terrorists. In fact, such an effort would likely divert resources better used on more focused efforts, such as the use of immigration information to enhance our intelligence on terrorists and their networks.

...

The 9/11 problem had nothing to do with overstays. Mr. Krikorian said that four of the 9/11 terrorists were overstayers. In fact, the 9/11 Commission staff reported that only two of them were overstays. And it is highly unlikely, under today’s current system, that either one of them would have been picked up at all, especially now that we have decided not to give them drivers’ licenses. If they had drivers’ licenses today and they were overstays, there is some potential that ICE might be able to find them. But with the new system in place, they wouldn’t be able to find them.
—Margaret D. Stock, Esq., Associate Professor, Department of Law, United States Military Academy
http://commdocs.house.gov/committees/intlrel/hfa27480.000/hfa27480_0f.htm

I am assuming that people who post here are doing there own research.

You certainly are not just believing what the headlines, are you?

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) flooded Mexico with cheap subsidized US agricultural products that displaced millions of Mexican farmers. Between 2000 and 2005, Mexico lost 900,000 rural jobs and 700,000 industrial jobs, resulting in deep unemployment throughout the country. Desperate poverty has forced millions of Mexican workers north in order to feed their families.

The National Campesino Front estimates that two million farmers have been displaced by NAFTA, in many cases related to the increase in US imports. In 1994, the first year of the agreement, the United States exported $4.59 billion of agricultural products to Mexico, according to the Department of Agriculture. By 2006 the figure had risen to $9.85 billion—an increase of 114 percent. US exports of corn, Mexico’s staple crop and largest source of rural employment, alone doubled to over $2.5 billion in 2006.

This combination of unemployment in Mexico, the huge gap between salaries in the United States and Mexico, and US demand for cheap labor to compete on global markets has created the current situation. The demand for undocumented labor in the US economy is structural. It is not just a few companies seeking to cut corners. These are not just jobs that “US workers won’t take.” Migrants work in nearly all low-paying occupations and have become essential to the US economy in the age of global competition.

The visitor crossing the Mexican border from Tijuana to San Diego these days is immediately confronted by a huge sign, “Stop the Border Invasion!” Sponsored by allies of the anti-immigrant vigilante group, the Minutemen, the same signs insult Mexican citizens at other border crossings in Arizona and Texas. The ultimate irony is that a crisis invasion is indeed occurring, but the signs, it seems, may be pointed the wrong direction.

Author Mike Davis points out that, in a “reality stood on its head,” few people—at least outside Mexico—have bothered to notice that while all the nannies, cooks, maids, and gardeners have been heading north to tend the luxury lifestyles of irate republicans, the Gringo masses have been rushing south to enjoy glorious budget retirements and affordable second homes in Mexico.

The number of North Americans living in Mexico has soared from 200,000 to 1 million (one-quarter of all US expatriates) in the past decade. With more than 70 million American baby-boomers expected to retire in the next two decades, experts predict “a tidal wave” of migration to warmer—and cheaper—climates. Baby-boomers are not simply feathering nests for eventual retirement, but also increasingly speculating in Mexican resort property and gated communities, complete with Hooters, Burger King, and Starbucks. The land rush is sending up property values to the detriment of locals whose children are consequently driven into slums or forced to emigrate north, only to face increasing “invasion” charges.

Good job Brown Beret Soldado, you have spoken like a true IGNORANT. You are the kind of person who contributes nothing to society and gives all Latino’s a bad name.  The U.S. did not steal this land from Mexico, it bought it.  Our parents are the one’s who tell us that the U.S. stole the land, but history tells us something different.  I’m not going to tell you to go back to Mexico or wherever you are from, continue living here and continue teaching hatred to every one, just be happy that you live in a free country where you are able to live your life the way you want. Oh yeah, stop being stupid, you weren’t born yet when Columbus landed in America.

Maybe, if Mexico’s people spent 55 minutes per hour
working on solving their own problems, and only 5
minutes per hour whining about the United States,
instead of vice versa, they’d have a lot of their
problems solved by now. Of course, if they did that
then they’d one day become independent of our
foreign aid and be out of excuses which is what
all this crap is really about. ‘We are poor’ is
the basic excuse, that despite the known fact that
one of the richest people in the world lives IN
Mexico. I think Mexico’s got money buried somewhere,
and they starve out their people as a political ploy.
I think if the border was closed for a year, a lot
of things like the ‘drug war’ would end, and Mexico
would magically come up with the money necessary
to start dealing with some of their own crap.
But, as long as ‘wounded bird’ makes for good
marketing in america, hold the screaming baby
in front of the camera while the drugmobile drives
BEHIND the camera, well…this garbage will continue.
I don’t think that Mexico is a bad country, but
some of the things that we’ve seen over the last
several years are kind of testament to a lack of
mutual good-faith cross border relations and things
like basic honesty and public accountability
for all the billions in foreign aid that get lifted
out of americans’ wallets and handed to whomever/whatever is on the recieving end in Mexico.
Shut that border for a year and clean it all up, or
just leave it closed.

Brown Beret Soldado has the facts.  Go back a few decades, before the second world war, H.G. Wells in his first editions of his THE OUTLINE OF HISTORY is saying as long as we have borders between countries we will have trouble.  Humans have said this centuries before Wells said it.  Currently, officially, homosapien is at minimum 200,000 years of buried skeletons, same skeletons today on the sidewalks of New York.  This is four footers or seven footers but with same brain, 200,000 years at minimum, interbreeding with perfect offspring.  It is too bad this critter is yet so primitive, given to compulsion before reason, fear before love, oh well.  But if we ever did love all babies on Earth at the same time we would as says JC have unlimited powers.

I am a naturalized citizen of the USA from Iceland, my wife is a legal resident from Panama, going through the naturalization process.  If we can manage to follow the laws and rules of legal entry to the USA, than everyone else can as well.  If one illegal from Mexico or Cuba is given amnesty while Chinese illegals are sent back to a lime pit courtesy of the PRC, is a moral crime.

If you go to Mexico to work, you have to PROVE that you are doing work that a Mexican worker CANNOT do.

As far as the labor force goes, if someone is fit enough to sit on the front porch drinking beer while on the dole, they should be able to work one of those jobs that apparently only an illegal Mexican will do.

There is some of the most ignorant and arrogant people posting on this story. First of all this is your country but not your land so we will leave your country when US leaves America (the continent you dumb asses)This is our land, you came and stole it and now want to call us illegals. you can say some dumb shit like “well there is laws” just like christians say “the bible says” but guess what I don’t give a damn about YOUR laws or YOUR moronic bible. And before you say something stupid like “leave the US if you don’t like it” read this comment again and pay attention. This dumb ass uses a front door as an example, here is mine (same concept) Would you like it if someone came into your house claiming that they discovered it, then kicking you out and called you an illegal ALIEN? Not only the natives that were trapped here when borders were created by the white men are natives. All brown people are natives to this land. Yes that includes Mexicans, Central and South Americans. So before you say Mexico out of USA, we say Europe out of America (yeah thats you white boy) And on top of everything you want us to be grateful…... Fuck you, I don’t think so. As far as these pigs doing their job, I’ll tell you something. One day the people WILL fight back. I know your butts are all tight after reading this so I’ll ease them up for you by saying this. All earth belongs to all people and there is enough for everyone. STOP believing everything you see on TV. Help to solve this problem of imperialism (I’m talking to all people) because if we don’t do it now, our children will suffer the consequences. Know this, everything will get really ugly for everyone before it gets better.

It must be nice being able to say whatever you want so long as it didn’t cost YOU anything. You people are so ungrateful of this nation that allows people like you to spew hatred at the very nation that gives you life. Geologist discovers link to the next 911 in global warning policy

http://www.H2onE2.com Glacial Respiration, Conceptual Ring of Ice, The End of Linear Western Religion
A Geological Exploration of an E2 Earthen Planet And the H2 Human Species
Author: B Billy Marse, Professional Geologist

Brief Description:
http://www.H2onE2.com is an exploration of the universe, geology, climate, biology, humans, psychology, folklore and ancient structures to uncover the beginning and disclose the end of linear western religion. The true DaVinci Code behind the bible is not a supreme spiritual power but a scientific record of climate change described as Glacial Respiration. The Greek philosophers originated the practice of communicating a hidden idea or message in the short story format, as a metaphor. In the bible, metaphors conceal historic climate change within the fanciful stories. The theory of Glacial Respiration explains the myth behind the Holy Grail, structures such as the Great Pyramids, Stonehenge, Easter Island and is the knowledge that was collected in the Jewish Ark of the Covenant.
The environmental changes of Glacial Respiration determine all biological evolution and can explain why higher forms of intelligent humans developed. Further, Glacial Respiration releases the secret hidden by the Knights Templars, Masonic Order and all religions. Uncovers an advanced Blue-Blooded semi-industrial Atlantian Civilization that was built and destroyed many times over for the last million years. The book ends with an explanation of how linear western religion will be physically ended and describes the construction of the doomsday device capable of fulfilling its own self defining prophesy, “Revelations”.  H2onE2 is a mind-expanding experience that stimulates the soul, instinct, intellect and is an almanac to the past, present and future of humanity. Rise, awaken and evolve into H3 human consciousness.

The discovery:
As a Professional Geologist, I attempted to link the Dust Bowl/Great Depression to a pre-glacial condition or mechanism and ended up writing the book H2onE2. I felt that there was a strong connection between the Dust Bowl and transition back into Glacial Winter. I did notice that my professors scientifically crumbled every time I mentioned the relationship. I could not go back in time or locate indisputable proof. The proof came from understanding all educational disciplines including history and theology. I soon discovered that all religious text both eastern and western continually described significant climate change conditions relating to Glacial Respiration. For years I fought off mixing science and religion until I discovered that the origins of all religions were founded or created to help humans psychologically survive the harsh earthen environment. Without reason I soon accepted that the world’s complicated religions were the same. This came true and I continued to write and discover. Everything came into place as though I was unlocking a 10,000-year-old puzzle. I also realized this puzzle was opened before I discovered it, by someone else, some other group. If so, further understanding of this knowledge might be extracted from significant historical events. Lastly, this is the vital information needed to make future predictions.

The article calling this an attack by Border Patrol is baseless spin. This was not a passive protest, the protestors clearly sought to provoke and intimidate the cops into reacting defensively, and they got their wish. Other than batons which are scarcely even used in the video, the only weapon we see the cops use is a paintball gun firing rubber balls.

From the beginning of the confrontation, I see one cop pushing back a protestor who is hopping into him beating a drum, which is clearly provocation/assault. That guy keeps hopping into the cops and so rightfully gets taken to the ground for arrest .  90% of the rest of the video is cops telling protestors to “get back” and assuming a defensive posture, while the protestors keep ignoring their instructions and advancing towards the cops threateningly.

Then some of the protestors can be seen hunched over trying to ignite what appears to be a banner or flag,  resulting in smoke (not tear gas) in close proximity to the cops, and the cops respond to the fire threat by shooting some rubber balls from a paintball gun at protestors, arresting one of the people in the proximity of where the smoke started, and continue to tell the rest of the people to get back, which of course, they do only momentarily before advancing towards the cops again to further provoke them.

Thankfully, the Border Patrol gets a lot of training in proper restraint and use of minimal force, and it shows here.  If this had been the LAPD or some other departments, the police response might have been much less “passive”.

Gues what, Dude! Drugs, by far, come in by citizens travelling abroad, or organized—organized—groups with ties, high and low, on both sides of the border. They come in by boat, plane, truck and automoble. Sure, some drugs get smuggled across the border on foot, duh! But little compared to other means.

And, guess what again! The 15 9/11 terrorists and their supporters were all here legally! Legally! Get it? The best way to infiltrate under cover is by legal means!

Re: #113143 by vet240

*Sigh* Such ignorance…

As far as people coming from South of the border to “build this nation”? that’s the case why do they send 30 billion dollars out of this countr annually?

The notion of our Nation being “built” by immigrants has validity when one actually takes the time to learn the history of our Nation. But you are seeing through Mexican glasses… So, no, in recent history, Mexican immigrants have not “built this nation.” They do, however, contribute to a very large manual labor force that contributes to this Nation’s infrastructure and food supply, among other things.

The “why” you ask about money sent out of the country diminishes in no way the physical work they do, and is unrelated.

How would you react if 20 million Americans invaded Mexico next year as new builders of Mexico?

He should be concerned, as he should be, however, 20 million Mexicans did not get here last year as you imply. There are 10 to 20 million illegal immigrants depending on who you choose to quote, and these came here over decades.

Also, of the illegall immigrants, some 60% are visa overstays, which means they came here legally and did not return when their visa expired.

It is a falsehood to say that 20 millions Mexicans crossed the border illegally in the last year, or even in the last ten years. False and ignorant.

I am not talking about “Immigrants”, I’m talking about illegal immigrants. If you don’t want to acknowledge the difference it’s understandable.

Have you ever driven your automobile beyond the posted speed limit? If so, you are then, like millions of other proud American citizens, illegal drivers. Understand that?

Yes, there are people coming in to this country without valid papers—and hence, illegal. But some see this for what it is: something that has been part of America for a century.

Only now, during the past two years has “illegal immigrants” been on the radar of people like vet240, stirred up into a frenzy of ignorance and intolerance by the likes of FOX News, CNN and the GOP. Why is that?

First of all it seems to me that these people should be in Mexico protesting their own governments failure to provide wages and jobs that can support their families.

Second, the last time I checked the map, nine out of ten Mexican states that import their illegal people to my country are not from the region that was lost in the Mexican American War. BTW Mexico lost the war. Then signed a treaty…they couldn’t handle that much land back then…and can’t handle the amount of land that they have now…Mexico still being in charge of this part of the United States would only mean sever poverty to all that live here now.

Lastly, The United States didn’t earn respect in the past by allowing countries to invade their interests…they won the respect and fear of dictatorships and communist natios by knocking the snot out of them…

You are correct in saying that this country is in decline…but it isn’t because of our foreign policy. It’s because we are not allowed to protect our borders from the onslaught of poor people coming from all the fourth world nations. It will cause a liberal based society to emerge and allow for further degradation of our current society. You are right that our country will not survive as it is today.

The next time you want to criticize the United States for going to Iraq to gain control of their oil…realize that we need to do that to maintain our overly strained natural resources. To keep up with the growing, excuse me, exploding population of this country.

So, go BACK TO MEXICO and protest the government that does not provide for you…does not care that it’s people need to go to another country to survive…or care that they risk their lives to do so…

Second, are your people ASHAMED to show their faces?  I am not talking about protection from pepper spray.  I am talking about another photo of your people in a non-confrontational setting where almost all had their faces covered with bandanas like convenience store robbers.  Be proud of what you are doing or don’t do it.

Third, Border Patrol does not ATTACK.  They defend.

I think the world would like to see the “severely beaten” persons’ bruises and wounds.  Pictures, please.  All your people had to do in order for the protest to remain peaceful was to obey lawful orders. Obviously, they were unable to do that.

Cesar Chavez in his day was no more tolerant of illegal immigration than the Minutemen are now. Worried about the hiring of illegal immigrants driving down wages, Chavez—according to numerous historical accounts—instructed union members to call the Immigration and Naturalization Service to report the presence of illegal immigrants in the fields and demand that the agency deport them. UFW officials were even known to picket INS offices to demand a crackdown on illegal immigrants.

In 1973 the union set up a “wet line” to prevent Mexican immigrants from entering the United States. Under the guidance of Chavez’s cousin Manuel, UFW members tried at first to convince the immigrants not to cross. When that did not work, they physically attacked the immigrants and left some bloody in the process.

I’m totally with Groovesmoothly.  The disrespect this country gives to the rest of the world is a rubber band about to break. The consequences of this offensive behavior will sting when it breaks.  This country became great by earning respect from the world.  Fear was a side benefit.  Now that the respect is ALL gone, all that’s left is fear.  History shows that fear can only rule for so long before the population rises up and does away with it. This is what causes revolutions. History will repeat.  This country will go the way of other oppressive empires.  I hate to quote the dreaded bible, but, “the meek shall inherit the earth”.  This could mean the oppressed people or the roaches.  Anyone’s guess at this point.

To vet240-

I’m sorry that your time violently serving corporate America’s agendas via our nation’s defense system has jaded you so that you can not see that human beings are being mistreated in that video. Law enforcement has laws that they must obey as well as enforce and you fail to recognize that it is the responsibility of civilians to demand a stop to injustice.

You need to approach the situation from this perspective. How do you think the rest of the world feels when we disregard their borders and laws and bomb the sh*t out of their civilians? Is it okay that in addition to everything we have brought upon the Iraqi people we go there and take jobs their jobs? Is it okay that our tax dollars pay Blackwater terrorists 10 times what you and your fellow soldiers get paid? If you don’t get that all I am left to think is f*ck you and your brand of America.

I can’t in good conscience respect complete disregard for the fact that we stole this country from native peoples and forced them across an imaginary line in the sand.

I thank you for your service but thank god you no longer serve. This is America sir, a nation who’s majority believes that we don’t need bigots and assholes like you to make us feel secure. The people in that video are not terrorists and drug lords they are hard working, oppressed people that only want the same opportunities that we have- and we have them for no other reason than we were born on the other side of that imaginary line.

Hey Vet240, I will assume your nickname refers to a veteran, quick question for you. How many catholics fundamentalist that come from the south border have attacked any American building? To my knowledge none, so quit blaming immigrants to the poor performance of the law in this country. Immigrants from the south (most of them) come here to help build this country, American’s Muslim oil-rich friends that come in airplanes with legal visas on their passports come here to destroy it.
And by the way, I’m an Army veteran…

Its’ the law.  Spoken like you are one of the corrupt officers. The demonstrators were using their voices. The officers/you (if you can call them officers, more like robots of the dictators), use their ego maniac violence appointed to them by the now police state.  When do people get it that police, army and government does not have our interest at heart any more!! When!  Its’ sad that officers walk around like they are so great and above everyone; but in reality are part of destruction of society; and they put themselves above drud dealers and such.  If there were no cameras these guys would of gotten beaten to a pulp right there rather than behind the scenes (You can see them cocking their arms to give out lashes but then they saw the camera was on them - evil does by the hand that control them; but they do have a choice and has choosen the rewards instead.

What is amazing is that this demonstration took place in California regarding the continuation of The Fence being built in southern Arizona, just a few miles from where I live.  Nobody is demonstrating here.  I have not heard a single peep from anybody about the continued construction of this big, ugly metal fence.  In fact, little of the national angst over immigration is heard here. Even the rabid anti-immigration nuts (Barnett, Anderson, et al) have publicly shut up.  We haven’t seen the MinuteMen in a while either.  I’d venture to say that most people here have not even seen The Fence, which hard to miss—massive rusted metal twelve foot tall wall all brightly lit at night with klieg lights.  The Border is so militarized—on both sides.  It is really awful.
The California demonstrators were ecologists protesting the placement of the fence over and through the San Pedro River, which is a north-flowing river coming out of Mexico.  It floods a lot.  The fence will likely serve as a temporary dam, which should be interesting come July and August when the monsoons hit.  While it is true that the river is a route for human migrants (I have seen a large groups of migrants backpacking into the US) it is also a route for migratory birds.  The fence will not stop the river of water, people or birds.  But it will make a mess.

First, I saw no “severely detained persons. Second when law enforcement officer move to detain a person you must not interfere with them, it’s against the law.

Lastly, I have no empathy what-so-ever for anyone who enters this country in contradiction of our immigration laws. If they have no respect for that one law, why would they have any for other laws?

Close the borders before the drug lords and the terrorists come in!!!
