Professing his remorse for his Oct. 18 suggestion that President Bush would be amused by American soldiers getting their heads “blown off,” Rep. Pete Stark, D-Calif., apologized on Tuesday to Bush, his family, the troops and his congressional colleagues, adding that he hoped he could now go back to being “as insignificant as I should be.”

Dear Mr. Stark:

For your future reference, if the radical right hate your remarks and the looney left love them, know that you have moved out of that big bell curve of sanity and yes, you probably owe someone, including yourself, an apology.

No friend, it is not pusillanimous Democrats. Many of the Democrats are in reality Republicans. Especially in the South when the Republicans (Aka Conservative right-wingers) realized that the Republican stands little chance of getting elected in the South. To get elected the cunning Republicans (Aka Conservatives right-wingers) simply put on Democratic clothing and called themselves ‘Democrats”. As a result, the true Democrats are really a minority party with little power to pass or reject any law. The true Democrats have as much clot to change the evil in this country as Johnny Q has.

President Bush would be amused by American soldiers getting their heads “blown off,” Rep. Pete Stark, D-Calif., apologized to him for stating that. I think while Bush is at it he should apologize to the American people for insulting our Constitution by calling it a “goddam piece of paper”. Because he periodically gets visitations from a god he should also apologize for using god’s name in vain. That way we could kill 3 apologetic birds with one stone.

Outraged (#109439), I would not go so far as to say that the Republicans have “planted moles” in the Democratic party.  Everyone has vulnerabilities; and in a town that has as many off-the-record blabbermouths as the District, you do not need undercover agents to figure out what they are!  I’m afraid the problem is that the Republicans are just more ruthless than the Democrats when it comes to playing power games; and ruthlessness trumps reasoned deliberation in the face of complex problems every time.

Of course he shouldn’t have apologized.  He had nothing to apologize for.  Ummm...would that be for telling the truth?

Of course Rove is AGAIN only telling half the story when he says, “apologizing only makes you look weak”.  That’s only true when you’re a lying, little son-of-a-bitch coward.  People of truth and integrity apologize and GAIN strength, yep.. It’s readily apparent Rove isn’t qualified in that department!

In my mind, concerning the Pelosi conundrum (is she with us or against us) there’s definitely “concerns” we need to address, and Stephen Smoliar makes a valid point when he said:

“however it occurred to me that the Executive thugs could care less about Stark.  Their real target is Pelosi, and nothing pleases them more than finding the weak spots in her leadership and going after them with sharp knives.”

Hmmm… I’m not sure, either way.  But there’s definitely MOLES in the democratic party.

Stark NEVER should have apologized.  He spoke the truth, and the criminal cabal in DC couldn’t handle such powerful stuff.  So--I’ll say it for them.  Bush/Cheney have no intention of ever ending ANY war.  They intend to perpetuate ENDLESS WAR and MARTIAL LAW.  BUSH/CHENEY ARE NAZI CRIMINALS AND I REFUSE TO EVER APOLOGIZE FOR SPEAKING THE OBVIOUS TRUTH.  BUSH/CHENEY/PELOSI SHOULD ALL BE IMPEACHED AND TRIED FOR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY IN THE HAGUE.  NOTHING ELSE WILL SUFFICE.  THEY MUST HAVE THREATENED STARK’S FAMILY IN A SERIOUS WAY FOR HIM TO RECANT SUCH STATEMENTS.  AND TO THINK--NOBODY IN THE MAINSTREAM MORONIC MEDIA PICKED UP ON THIS?! NONE OF THEM NOTICED THE HIDEOUS FEAR IN STARK’S VOICE?  NOBODY NOTICED THAT STARK ACTED LIKE A MAN WHO’S FAMILY HAD BEEN THREATENED WITH ASSASSINATION?
I’LL SAY IT AGAIN--BUSH/CHENEY/PELOSI IN MY OPINION ARE A CRIMINAL NAZI CABAL INTENT ON ENSLAVING US ALL.  I WILL NEVER APOLOGIZE FOR THIS STATEMENT.  TO H’ WITH ALL OF THEM!

Rep. Pete Stark need not have apoligized to Bush about his remark.  Perhaps Bush isn’t sitting back hoping to see our soldier’s heads blown off but he sure as hell doesn’t care how many go down that way.
Representative Stark spoke up and that’s what Americans need from their leaders.  We need strong language with facts and figures put out.  We need comprehensive plans for ending the insanity Bush and Cheney has enmeshed our country in and every member of the House and Senate should take part in establishing an escape route out of hell for our service men and women!  Time has run out for petty infighting amongst our leadership.  We can’t afford to have a nuclear bomb convince us otherwish.

Obviously, the USA is already a fascist dictatorship. Very often, when someone speaks out the truth, he has to self-humiliate like the dissidents in Stalins show-processes.

cyrena (#109138), as long as you are trying to apply “deep reading” to all these comments, let me throw another hypothesis at you.  After doing some more background reading yesterday, it occurred to me that the Executive thugs could care less about Stark.  Their real target is Pelosi, and nothing pleases them more than finding the weak spots in her leadership and going after them with sharp knives.  The point is that they can attack Pelosi by denying her access to contact with the Executive branch, just they same way that they deny dissenting journalists access to the White House Press Room.  Every now and then they need to remind Pelosi who is really in charge to keep her in line, and she is then discredited in public opinion when she dances to their tune.  I suspect I was too specific in referring (#109090) to “a Congress whose normative practices undermine the democratic foundation that the Constitution tried to lay down for it.” In place of “Congress” I should have written “government,” because the corruption that grew within the Executive has now metabolized in the other two branches;” and the whole “body politic” may never make it out of Intensive Care.

I was also a little sad when I heard Stark apologize.  One can only immagine what forced him to do that.  I just don’t see Pelosi as that much of a threat, but she must be.  It’s becoming more and more apparent we have more than bush/cheney to deal with in the House and the Senate.  The only way to stop this whole crew is to force them all out.  Don’t forget to call Pelosi and let her know how you feel about her nonsupport for Stark.  She’ll eventually get the message.......

Congressman Pete Stark went from Hero to Zero in less than a week. This has got to be a new record for a Congressional Democrat.

Too bad he let himself be beaten down the Pelosi pressure machine. Never have I seen a worse Speaker than this Pacific Heights princess, as she turned on one of her own (a Bay Area representative no less) and sided against Stark and with her BFF, President George Bush.

The real story here isn’t Stark: it’s Pelosi and her agenda to enable Bush and the neoconservatives orbiting his tiny pinhead.

When Pelosi uttered this bon mot, “impeachment is off the table,” followed by, “Bush isn’t worth impeaching,” followed by, “I don’t see the connection between torture and impeachment,” I knew the fix was in and the left had beenn duped.

Pelosi’s liberal bona fides had always been overrated and largely a creation of the ROM and MSM to discredit her before her became Speaker. But to turn on Congressman Pete Stark the way she did was beyond the pale and the voters of San Francisco need to recall her before next year.

Looking at the clip, it seems that he has missed the chance to re-state his remarks for added effect has and bowed to whatever pressure was put onto him. That is cowardice in the face of the enemy and reduces what he did say to merely pandering for popularity with Bush’s opponents. To then state that he should return to being “as insignificant as I should be” is an insult to those who ever voted form him.

To ALL:
I’ve reposted just portions of some of your comments, because I think they’re important. (and because I agree of course). But, think about them….below the surface…., and consider, WHY has it been so important to ‘go after’ Pete Stark, and FORCE an apology from him?. When they first attacked him, and attempted to FORCE an apology, he responded (in writing) by re-stating the same thing he had said. And so…they put MORE pressure on him. And, if we look at this response, he has AGAIN done the same thing, in his own words.
So, thanks to all of you, for pointing this out. In the end, these monsters actually expose themselves, just in making such a big ‘da-doo’ over the comments, which only brings more attention to it. It’s a typical give-away….”thou doest protest too much”. Wouldn’t it have just been better for them to ignore Starks comments, instead of attacking him? I think he’s actually made his point quite well.

I have to post this comment by DKM on TPM Election Central, because it’s so funny and heartbreakingly NOT what Stark did.  Hope there aren’t copyright issues…

“I’m sorry he didn’t give a British apology where on the surface it sounds like he said he was sorry, but when you stop to think about it, he just repeated what he had said originally in different words. An example would be, ‘After George Bush vetoed the chance for millions of poor children to get medical care, I was overwrought. I know what he used to do to frogs with fire crackers when he was a boy and assumed that he had moved on to bigger and better things. I realize that our soldiers had nothing to do with starting this war, so it was wrong for me to suggest that our soldiers have put themselves in harm’s way solely for the pleasure of Mr. Bush.’”

A responce to the idiots that had posted comments about this “unfounded apology”.

I figure that 97% of you a-holes are nothing more than “plants” into the interactive blog sites. At least that’s what I figure.  Now, please “perform your act”, on queque.  Thank you very much for your patience.  I’m sure you all, or mostly all, have more important agenda’s(i.e. making more$)to attend to (other than attempting to “quell” opinions that differ from your own and against the disgusting Bush/Cheney disgraces. But, please understand there is one true FACT, I REPEAT, FACT, Did I Fail to MENTION....FACT !! WE “opposers"& our #’s, are a hellava lot “smarter” than you “inbreaded defects”.  Money doesn’t make anyone smart, it just “funds the cause”.(please see George “the infamous DUBYA” disgrace)
Tell me something..r u butthead/rich imbeciles, or what?.  Genetics takes care of those requirements, huh?.  And think how stupid that the “lower/middle classes” never thought about “who” they married. Imagine that, maybe real love? We never considered whether, or not, that our betrothed “had CONNECTIONS”. At least, most of us didn’t. We wanted to believe in the “Dream”.  You know the concept… We ALL have “ a shot” !! Wrong. We, unfortunately found out, that we were deluded in that belief..  This is now where we find ourselves.  That is, that we need to resist every one of you (a-holes), to save our country, from ypou, the Power Elite.  We see that, as it should have been clear for 3 decades, that you (and yours) represent a danger to our country & and have an agenda that is, obviously, counter-productive to our well-being, going forward, We need to remove this “thinking” from our people’s thought patterns and this “wrong” thinking needs to be, wholely rebuked/removed from American Society.  Sorry, but we can’t succeed as a Nation with “your kind” involved. Why?  Simple.  Too much greed, and too much intolerance for people you consider “lesser” than yourselves.  Our salvation and, ultimately, our continued existance depends upon your total elimination.  Sorry, blame Mother Nature.  Don’t kill the messenger. You’re all going, and it’s not my fault. It is a logical, and defensible position that our country/history/future needs to seek/impode on you.  This includes our ability to “FIRMLY RESIST” any/or all attempt(s) to “subvert” our country’s “Constitution, Bill of Rights, and ALL of its Amendments” from your very evil intentions.  Anything outside of that needs to be “intensely scrutinized”, and carefully evaluated under this intention. If you are “percieved” as pursuing/and/or entertaining anti- American interests, you will be duly dealt with.  So rich people, how does that feel?
Please have yourselves and your “heartless” substitutes for Human Beings a very fine evening/day/existance.  A word of caution, however. Unless you,"suddenly" see the light, you (and yours) won’t be able to have taht benefit, and others as well, very much longer.  Sleep well.

What did Stark say that millions of other citizens wouldn’t mimic. This president, with all the damage done deserves our collective rage. Thats what seems to be missing in our congress, rage at a group of neo-cons who have dragged us thru 7 miserable years of failed policies domestically and lied us into wars to no end. If our elected leaders, both repub. & dem.s , cared more for our democracy then their own miserable careers perhaps we’d have alittle more rage. What the hell does it take to feel anger towards the kind of traitorism bu$h & Cheney exhibit in every decision they make ? Is it going to take WWIII that they are trying to start before leaving office ? Are they going to get away with even that before they leave for their fat-cat corporate paybacks ? Perhaps we should view this speech through the same postmodern lens that seems to work on Stephen Colbert:

http://www.truthdig.com/eartotheground/item/20071023_c olbert_ahead_of_3_democratic_candidates_in_presidential_pol l/#109088

If Colbert is resisting the electoral process, then Stark’s use of the adjective “insignificant” can be read as an act of resistance against a Congress whose normative practices undermine the democratic foundation that the Constitution tried to lay down for it.  Perhaps I am being too generous to the man, but I would say that Stark took his lumps by giving out a few of his own!
