Your Handy Guide to Emmy Censorship

Sally Field

They censored her!  They really, really censored her!  Field becomes flustered on Sunday’s Emmy telecast.

Sally Field worked her Emmy acceptance speech into an (unfortunately) incoherent anti-war crescendo during Sunday night’s telecast, which, like the other two muted moments showcased in this video montage by the always-hilarious Defamer team, was awkwardly squelched by hypervigilant editors at Fox.

The only way to try to create peace out of this mess is to let people like Sally voice their opinion loud and clear. Fox news is not holier then thou. After all, they let that pervert who likes phone sex continue to disgrace their screen.

Don’t draw lines with free speech.

Sally field was the winner, it was her emmy and her acceptance speech, where, I believe is entitled to say anything she wants about anything.

Some one needs to investigate Fox advertisers as I notice that many are from local pro-war lobbys i.e Freedoms Watch - Ari Fleicher, net centric and a host of others who make obscene money hosing the taxpayers in this minority supported war.

I hope the persons who sell the rights to host the emmys know that they’ve been paid with blood money.

Censored or uncensored, not Sally’s most shining moment.  It is possible she is simply frustrated with the war and in her frustration, called it on the public air waves, something which should not have been said, and I think Fox was correct to have bleeped her.  I have to confess that I was equally rude when I called my Senator’s office and told the staff who answered the phone to relay to my Senator that I wanted the God damn war stopped.  That was not my most shining moment either, to talk that way to a staff person, but I had just finished listening to Petreaus and while they were all sitting around kissing his brass, nine more of our troops were killed that day.  There is a lot of frustration being created by a war that we want stopped, because those with the power to stop it, do not listen to our wants.  This Friday, September 21, is internationl day of peace.  Perhaps we all just need to take a deep breath, and concentrate on peaceful thoughts on that day, and try to create peace within our own lives.

I hate to be nice to Fox, but I think the real reason Sally Field was bleeped was because her use of God Damn would offend the FCC, Parents TV Council, and the like.

Consider the number of anti-Bush and anti-Iraq war jokes the Simpsons gets away with. As Lewis Black noted on the Daily Show, Fox television runs the programs that the viewers of Fox News are offended by.
