Fox News Sets Sights on IranPosted on Aug 22, 2007
Documentary filmmaker Robert Greenwald has put together an alarming new short film, “Fox Attacks: Iran,” in which he compares footage featuring Fox News anchors and pundits talking about Iraq before and after the U.S. invasion with the network’s more recent coverage about Iran. The similarities are striking. Watch the clip here. Advertisement Elsewhere: . CommentsAre you a Truthdig member yet? Login now, or register with Truthdig. Add Your Comment

For those of you in the fact-based community:
FACT: Iran has invaded no one.
FACT: Iran is no threat the USA.
FACT: There is ZERO evidence that Iran is building a nuclear weapon.
FACT: As a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran allows unannounced, go-anywhere inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The IAEA has never, not once, found a single shred of evidence that Iran has a nuclear weapons program.
FACT: Iran is not “totalitarian.” Iran has a complex system of government in which many branches have veto power.
FACT: Ahmadinejad is not the “dictator” of Iran. He is in fact not even the most powerful figure in Iran.
FACT: Ahmadinejad never said Israel should be “wiped off the map.” He said, “the [Zionist] regime should disappear from the pages of time.” This is actually much LESS inflammatory than, say, Reagan saying the Soviet Union belonged in the “ash heap of history” because it was an “evil empire.”
FACT: If we withdraw from Iraq, the Iranians and Iraqis will not “follow us home.” We will not have to “fight them in the streets of Cleveland.” The Iranians and Iraqis have ZERO capability of moving troops from the Middle East to North America.
Again, this is only for the benefit of the fact-based community. Neoconservatives do not qualify.

It’s frightening to think this way—but the only hope I see for avoiding an insane war with Iran is that the Bushies may not have much intelligence or morality, but they do at least have a sort of criminal cunning.
A cunning criminal, looking at potential losses from an overly ambitious heist, will usually draw back and say, “no thanks—too risky.” He’ll stick with the stuff that is (in the words of another criminal) “doable.”
There is, I hope, someone in the Bush Administration who is cunning enough to say, “I would love to bomb and rape Iran, but I don’t think we can get away with it.”
On the negative side of the ledger, criminals are also known for doing some pretty stupid things.

Well, Fox actually is the closest to being “fair and balanced” of any major news outlet.
Brit Hume is great, too.
