Cheney

Not too long ago, Dick Cheney made sense. The subject was the occupation of Iraq and why he thought it was a bad idea, or a “quagmire,” as he put it at the time.
Actually.

#96317 by Shenonymous on 8/22 at 6:24 am: “...No article on real social issues like poverty in the world, global warming…”

Agreed, Shenonymous, and they deleted three of my postings in the recent Hiroshima Day commemoration topic without reason. Why? Is the USA (read Scheer’s wartime buddies) still too embarrassed or ashamed to admit the truth about its negative role in world affairs and especially in the Pacific since 1898?

To paraphrase, not too long ago, TruthDig made sense. Now, as long as the subject is the occupation of Iraq, they can compete. Anything more than that seems beyond them. That is merely manufacturing news as with the mainstream media.

Admittedly, a political blog but political is local and that does include the environment and people these days. Problem is that the editorial staff here have gone so local that they are only concerned with the latest shallow fads of the Los Angeles trendies they hang out with.

Looking over all of the TD reports in the newsletter received today, it is apparent they are only interested in Iraq, Palestine, Cheney, Rove, Muslims, and the like.  No article on real social issues like poverty in the world, global warming which is a worse problem than the f’n Bush war or the lunatics in Washington, D.C.  Too bad since it is only reactive frustration that drives the posts.

Ender, on this….BRAVO! Excellent piece of writing, and so well documented. I knew some of this stuff, but not all of it. For instance, I didn’t know he had voted against making Dr. King’s birthday a national holiday. I specifically remember being in DC to organize/demonstrate/call for his birthday to be a national holiday, and it was a most moving experience.

Now I find out the dirty bastard did everything he could to keep it from happening. And, I’m not even surprised.

Anyway…thanks again.

Cheney has ad a very interesting career, orchestrated from the beginning to put him into a position to be able to control the flow of Defense Department cash to his company, Haliburton, and to the defense companies that the Bush’s Family money is largely invested in.  As a Senator, and then as SecDef, Cheney was a mover and shaker in that arena.  As a Senator, he pushed for reform of Pentagon procurement that called for weapons creation to specification with selection based on test results from working prototypes conducted by the military, rather than having solutions forced on the military due to the revolving door of guaranteed high$$ jobs for Pentagon officials that bought what the defense industry told them to.

As a result of years of this, Cheney, eventually as Bush1’s secdef, managed to wrestle procurment authority from the Pentagon and Congress, to almost sole control of the Sec Def.

The results are war where there are more contractors on the ground than soldiers, and the contractors make much more money, and die less frequently.

Dick has made himself into the GOD OF WAR, AMERICAN STYLE.  Momma’s Little Cocaine Cowboy is just his hand puppet.

From Wikopedia, a few more tidbits about The Dick:

Among the many votes he cast during his tenure in the House, he voted in 1979 with the majority against making Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.‘s birthday a national holiday, and again voted with the majority in 1983 when the measure passed.

He voted against the creation of the U.S. Department of Education, citing his concern over budget deficits and expansion of the federal government. He also claimed the Department was an encroachment on states’ rights.[18]

He also voted against funding Head Start. As a vice presidential candidate in 2000, he reversed his position.[19]

In 1986, after President Ronald Reagan vetoed a bill to impose economic sanctions against South Africa for its official policy of apartheid, Cheney was one of 83 Representatives who voted against overriding the veto. In later years, Cheney articulated his opposition to “unilateral sanctions,” against many different countries, stating “they almost never work.”[20] He also opposed unilateral sanctions against Communist Cuba, and later in his career he would support multilateral sanctions against Iraq. In 1986, Cheney, along with 145 Republicans and 31 Democrats, voted against a non-binding Congressional resolution calling on the South African government to release Nelson Mandela from prison, after the majority Democrats defeated proposed amendments to the language that would have required Mandela to renounce violence sponsored by the African National Congress (ANC) and requiring the ANC to oust the Communist faction from leadership. The resolution was defeated. Appearing on CNN during the Presidential campaign in 2000, Cheney addressed criticism for this, saying he opposed the resolution because the ANC “at the time was viewed as a terrorist organization and had a number of interests that were fundamentally inimical to the United States.”[21]

Cheney also served as ranking minority member of the Congressional committee investigating Iran-Contra - a scandal involving members of the Reagan Administration who helped to illegally sell arms to Iran, and then used the proceeds to fund, also illegally, the Contras, a guerrilla militia in Nicaragua resisting the elected Sandinista government.[22] In that role he supervised the production of a minority report which strongly rejected the majority finding[23] that a “cabal of zealots” in the administration who had “disdain for the law” had violated the statute.[24][25]

Just checking out Truthdig since another discussion is not working right.  I’ve sent complaints to Truthdig about four times and they have never responded. Guess they don’t really care about these forums.  Anyway, to comment on this article, we cannot believe anything the ever-lying, deeply corrupt Bushites say about anything.

Part of the problem in this country is short term memory. The kids say “Viet what?”
My 12 year old niece asked if anyone knew anything about it, as she had to do a report on Vietnam.
Oh yeah, so I brought out my husbands medals. Shot 3 times in that hellhole. Showed pics, etc and explained to her that we have learned nothing, which is pretty sad.

I was brought up to believe I would make many mistakes in my life, some I would not be proud of, but if I learned from my mistakes I would be a better person..Well as a whole we have learned nothing because “It’s crying time again,” People are dying to make the Bush regime and friends wealthy.

The Romney’s of this world believe someone else’s kids should fight the war they are so eager to continue. When asked “How many of Romney’s boys were in Iraq?” Romney said, his 5 boys are helping their country by helping him get elected President. We must stop the likes of Romney or Guiliani steal the White House, as we will end up with nothing better than we have now.

There once was a time when there was a Dick, Bush, and a Colin..in the Whitehouse…they sold US a pack of lies and gave Gen X and Y their own Vietnam. Dick Cheney and his wicked lil’ group of scandalous players have been rapidly subverting our rights into privileges.

He is Machiavelli.  This video, which I had posted on Aug. 12th, on my site, demonstrates that Cheney has excellent deductive skills..he knew the outcome if we went in.  He knew what would occur, yet still sold US a lemon.  Cheap salesman and dirty tricks, these same players from different scandals have been subverting democracy long enough.  They’ve used the events of 9/11 to slide US farther away from our democrazy and closer to their NeW hOmeland.

In the meantime America sits and digests another nights broadcast of “domesticated” for US comsuption news.  Thanks Murdoch, thanks FOX, Thanks ContainsNoNews..they’re all complicit in this War of Terror.

Can you even remember what our politicians and the media were rampaging about on Sept. 10, 2001?  I do.

It’s amazing, just one day before the events of 9/11, Congress and the media were beginning to ramp up their coverage on a report that the Defense Department ‘misplaced’ 2.3 Trillion dollars of taxpayers money. Six years later.. an estimated 40 cents of every dollar spent on the war on terror goes to secretive sub ‘machine gun’ contractors and outsourced intelligence agencies with absolutely no oversight. Worse yet, we are now publicly arming the enemies of our enemies…again. Prepare for the impending ‘blowback’.

9/10/2001 was the end of an era. It changed everything. It was, as Francis Fukuyama had previously written , The End of History, without the cheery ending with liberal western democracies winning out. 9/12/2001 was the first day of our NeWhOmeland. A place where military spending is abundant, lucrative contracts secretive, wiretapping legal, torture allowed, renditions abound, the constitution trampled, our rights subverted, Free speech denied, censorship applied….What have we done? All in the name of ‘national security’..WHY?

Please stop in and read the full article and watch another blast from the past.

Who is this guy?  Which is the real Dick Cheney. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!  Is there a REAL Dick Cheney? I believe whoever this person is blows whichever way the dollars blow.  Looking at his supposed net worth and how that has rampantly escalated since Desert Storm its painfully obvious that this Dick Cheney is out to better his own self and screw any one or any citizen Republican or Democrat or Independent or non affiliated citizen to get what he wants.  How much is enough to this man and the neocons.  The anwser is there is never enough until they are in complete control and have politicized every fabric of American being into Conservative Republican or facism which ever term fits the description.  This man and his partners have no ethics, no scruples, no morals if you are part of their agenda and mindset then watch your back because sooner or later if there is a dollar between you and Cheney you will get a bullet in the back or a secret ride out of the country on a CIA jet to some unknown country where it is perfectly fine to torture with recrimination. This man and this administration is GUILTY OF TREASON TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.  This man and this adminsitration is GUILTY OF WAR CRIMES and should be brought in front of a multinational tribunal and tried and all ill gotten booty stripped of them. Let them serve out their lives in prison with no hope of parole.  I and dissappointed, disgusted and ashamed to have this person connected to the law abiding citizens of America whether they be Republican, Democrat, Independent or nonaffiliated.  We deserver better than this administraion has given us.

Even with the bickering I hear between postings, I think there is some truth in what just about everyone is saying. There is an agenda that was planned in advance. It is always about greed, power, envy, control cloaked in covertness to confuse the public.
Television is so polluted with propaganda I avoid watching it.
We need the disagreements in this forum.
Something must be working; Carl Rove is leaving. Bush and Cheney are the leading characters in this play. But, there are so many players.
For example Democrat John Davison Rockefeller IV (D-WV) in September 2006, crossed party lines to vote for the Military Commissions Act of 2006. Is this the same line of Rockefeller that met secretly on Jeckyll Island along with JPMorgan to put together the Federal Reserve?
He is also on the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. His wife Sharon is president and chief executive officer of WETA, the Public Television station in Washington.

Ref#952127 by Elder Earl.
This man must be an Israeli.
His list of perpetual grievances and sob stories of the Jews has become a part of Israeli upbringing. An ex-Israeli has told me that even a plus sign in mathematics isn’t tolerated in their schools because its resemblance to the cross.
The nonsense which Elder presents as facts, however, serves a double purpose to these tribal Jews.
First, it insensitize them towards sufferings of their victims. Exactly the Nazi method. Few examples are not out of order.
A Palestinian schoolgirl’s brain is blown out and the leutenant’s explanation that ‘she made a suspicious movemant’ is accepted. Dan Halutz provoked a roar of laughter, when he explained how he felt about wiping out a whole Palestinian family, from his fighter bomber.“Just a slight bump from under my left wing”, answered the adored air commander who, incidentally, proved not much good when it came to fighting the real fighters like Hezbollah in Lebanon. The hate education produces good torturers but rarely heroes: Halutz also disclosed his exceptional qualities by selling his stocks just before the attack on Lebanon.
Second, it is a shield to fall behind when Jews run out of justifications for their bestial treatment of Palestinians. Elder Earl would probably calmly blow the brains of Palestinian children, remembering the eternal Jewish victimhood, but arguing for it with the Goyim is slightly more delicate. Here, they all become victims, “always Jews to blame”, “anti-Semites garbage” etc, the whole arsenal of heckling slogans, prepared as arguments.
Our main mistake is to consider this Tribe something as ourselves.

Here is some more fertilizer for your growth and eduaction.

When Constantine the Great made Christianity the state religion of the Roman Empire, the Jews refused to convert to Christianity. The Crusaders offered to the Jews the choice of baptism or death. As a result of their refusal, many died. In Europe, in the year 1215 Jews were required to wear a badge on their clothing to show that they were Jews. The Jews were blamed for everything that went wrong. The hatred of Jews was such that in 1290 they were expelled from England, in 1306 from France, and in 1492 from Spain. Jews ended up in Turkey (The Ottoman Empire), the Balkans, Palestine, northern Italy and Holland, while the Jews of Germany fled to Eastern Europe. The Poles allowed them to become traders and money Lenders. They were made to live in ghettos?.During the 1500Â’s Martin Luther wanted them to become Protestants, and again they refused. He wanted to burn their synagogues, seize their books, and expel them from all German lands. He called them poisoners, ritual murderers, usurers, parasites and devils. After NapoleonÂ’s time, Jews were redesignated outsiders in Germany. Anti-Semitic books were published in Germany and Austria by the thousands. In the last century, the German, Wilhelm Marr, claimed that the Semites had an inborn character that made them a slave race, while the Germans were the Master race. Hitler drew upon this tradition in fanning hatred toward the Jews. Before and during HitlerÂ’s time, some Jews converted to the Protestant religion, whereby the churches increased their membership. Other Jews, on their own, abandoned their Jewish faith and became assimilated into the German society, imbued with German culture. They thought of themselves as Germans who happened to be Jews.

Scapegoating
Hitler, with many other Germans, blamed the democrats, the radicals, the communists, the liberals, and the Jews for Germany losing the war in 1918. The popular term was: “The stab in the back”. Those who signed the surrender papers and the versailles Treaty and set up the Weimar Republic were traitors, according to “good” Germans. The German Prime Minister, Rathenau, was a Jew an object of hatred for the Nazis.

The Path Toward The Destruction of the Jews
What anti -Jewish acts came about once Hitler gained power, after 1933? The Reichstag (German National Legislature) passed the Nuremberg Laws which defined Jews as full Jews and mixed-blood Jews, forbidding marriage between Jews and Aryans (Germans). In 1938 passports for German Jews were marked with the letter “J”,in order to control their movements. *******The government organized attacks against Jewish businesses on November 7, 1938, later known as “The Night of Broken Glass” (Kristallnacht). Later 26,000 Jews were arrested and 1,000 died in concentration camps in Germany. Jewish children were thrown out of German schools. Arganization (compulsory expropriation) of Jewish businesses was carried out in Germany.****
Is it true that Hitler and the top Nazis are to be blamed for the Holocaust? The idea that only Hitler and a few military officers were responsible for the destruction of the Jews and mary other European nationalities is false. Every sector of the German society was involved in the destruction process of the Jews:

-The lawmakers defined who was a Jew
*****-The bureaucrats stripped Jews of their personal property and citizenship rights****
-The churches (religious authorities) gave evidence or lack of evidence of Aryan descent of the Jews
-The Post Office system carried messages of definition, expropriation, denaturalization, and deportation notices regarding the Jews
-The German State Railroad system transported the Jews to the various camps
-The German industrial companies built the crematorium ovens for the extermination camps
-The German chemical plants produced the poison pellets that killed the Jews
-The German army conquered territories where extermination camps were set up.

His methodology, lack of coherence, changing the subject, lack of source support, etc., are all the same. I Don’t remember the name he used before, if it is him, but it sure seems like him or his twin brother.

He does not irritate me, though. Sometimes I just feel someone needs to “educate” him. As Socrates said centuries ago: “It is better to be unborn than unlearned for ignorance is the root of all misfortune.”

Peace.

RE: by Elder Earl on 8/15 at 4:57 am

Hitler’s gencide of the Jews was not due to monetary gain, it was German nationalism and his belief that the Jews were an inferior race, and were exploiting Gemans, among other things.

“Why did Hitler hate the Jews?
Holocaust happened because Hitler and the Nazis were racist. They believed the German people were a ‘master race’, who were superior to others. They even created a league table of ‘races’ with the Aryans at the top and with Jews, Gypsies and black people at the bottom. These ‘inferior’ people were seen as a threat to the purity and strength of the German nation. When the Nazis came to power they persecuted these people, took away their human rights and eventually decided that they should be exterminated.”

You can find that at:

http://www.auschwitz.dk/docu/Faq.htm

The removal of tribes to reservations was due to the continuous attacks against the westward movement of the early Americans. There was no monetary gain involved. Territorial expansion, probably!

“He [Colonel George Crook] had orders to assume command of the U.S. Army’s Arizona Department. His mission was to end the fighting between the Apaches and the whites—peacefully if possible. The “dark and bloody ground” of Kentucky in Daniel Boone’s time had never even begun to approach the blood and terror of ApacherĂa for the past 10 years. Crook’s job was to round up the Indians and put them on reservations.”

This is at: (And this is only one source, of many)

http://www.historynet.com/wars_conflicts/american_indian_wars/3030101.html?featured=y&c=y

The reason for the war of 1812 were not strictly control and money. It was, in part, due to:

“From the end of the American Revolution in 1783, the United States had been irritated by the failure of the British to withdraw from American territory along the Great Lakes; their backing of the Indians on America’s frontiers; and their unwillingness to sign commercial agreements favorable to the United States.”

You can find further information and rationale for the war at:

http://www.gatewayno.com/history/War1812.html

The causes for WWII are several, including:

“Appeasement, Isolationism, and the Failure of the League of Nations.”

And not strictly due to control and economic development as you claim. You can find that at:

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_were_the_causes_of_World_War_2

Finally, the Iraqi war is all about O-I-L and who will reap the profits by stealing it from the Iraqis.

Get your facts straight before you post your opinions. By the way, trying to use elongated expressions, big words for small ideas, etc., does not make your posts more credible. Facts, sources, and accuracy do!

Have we entered into that Bushism? “You are either with us or against us.”  If it’s ok with you, I would like to avoid both of them.

And of course 9-11 didn’t “change” any of these dynamics, because 9-11 didn’t have shit to do with Iraq. So, Elder Earl is simply delusional, and all must take that into account, in reading or reacting to any of his posts.

Yep, I am so delusional…So cyrena, as a blooding heart open-minded radically changed thinker, I just don’t feel the love in your remarks, like you have for Islamic religious war mongers.

Here are some historical facts about economic development you should know…Hitler’s genocide of the Jews was for monetary gain.  The removal of the native American to Indian reservations was for monetary gain.  The War of 1812 was over control and money.  World War II was over control and economic development…etc…and the war with Iraq is over who is going to control the world finances.

Now, If I have to chose between Bush and the religious zealot Ahmadinejad to control the future of World economy, well for me it is a obvious but for a liberal like yourself…duh!

How that for a reality check as facts or stranger than fiction.

===============
These are the people who make people like Cheney possible.

JimBob,
Another laugh out loud for me. These are EXACTLY the people who make people like Cheney possible. (and Lynne Cheney helped too:))

Meantime, OUTRAGED hit the mark. Cheney just related in this 1994 film, EXACTLY why we should NOT have invaded and occupied Iraq. NOTHING has changed. The Kurds have always operated a quasi-independent entity from Iraq, and it has always included a large population of the Kurds and Turks. (it’s right there, and both were originally contained in the Ottoman Empire) The Iranians have ALWAYS lived next door, and have always shared at least cultural interests, as they have defended themselves against Saddam.

And of course the Syrians and even Jordan or Egypt would have an interest, not to mention the Israeli determination to access the oil and water that didn’t come with their own UN gift package in 1948.

Needless to say, NONE of that has changed since Dick Cheney acknowledge this in 1994. So, as Outraged has pointed out, he KNEW all of this, and created a reason to provoke a war there, ANYWAY. He KNEW this would happen. That’s what we need to know.

And of course 9-11 didn’t “change” any of these dynamics, because 9-11 didn’t have shit to do with Iraq. So, Elder Earl is simply delusional, and all must take that into account, in reading or reacting to any of his posts.

Full Spectrum Dominance plus Mid-East Oil equals LOTS of Money (for an elite few, of course).

Since the day George Bush got “elected” to play golf while Cheney ran the country, everything has taken on an Alice in Wonderland rationale.

Most Americans don’t even know, or would approve, of the dirty tricks Dick Cheney and his crew get up to.

Two centuries of reasoned effort washed away in eight short years.  Welcome to the Land of Fear, Loathing and Blind Faith.

This comment may not be “nuanced” to the level George Bush likes it, but what the hell.  Saddam/Bin Laden/Timothy McVei/NSA/AIPAC/Halliburton/Blackwater/Lockheed Martin - Plenty of nuance there, I’m sure.

It stands to reason that if Mr. Cheney was this knowledgeable in 1994, that his actions of helping to invoke the invasion of Iraq were undeniably coherent and purposeful, given his very clear understanding of the implications of doing so.

Depressed, jbart? It was the clock ‘metronome’ swinging hypnotically from side to side in the background! What was the real message, though, in 1994? “We got it wrong but we got it right….. we are always right!”

I remember the bumper stickers(from my youth)like it was yesterday. If your heart’s not in AMERICA(heart symbol)get your ass(symbol, again) out !!
That was their response to opposing the bullshit that was Vietnam. What’s that saying? Oh yeah, the more things change, the more they stay the same. I find it disgraceful, and depressing, that this method still has effects on the populace of our country. Sorry for my “downer”,but I’m just reminicing, and remembering the same feelings I had then, and I have again.

how did ‘the situation changed after 9/11’ become a jedi mind trick.

Anytime a policy comes into question (NSA, IRAQ et all)....out comes the magic words to hypnotize any MSM outlet or reporter.

Re #94831 by Elder Earl on 8/14 at 8:32 am

This report was in 94Â’ and the situation had changed after 911.

Cheney was a founding member of the Project for a New American Century in 1997 along with Rummy, Wolfowitz, et al.  Its Statement of Principles called for significant increases in military spending, strengthening ties to friends and to “challenge regimes hostile to our interests and values” and otherwise promote the cause of political and economic freedom abroad with America on top.

In January 1998, PNAC sent a letter to then-President Clinton urging himn to “implement[...] a strategy for removing Saddam’s regime from power.” (For the record, Cheney’s name did not appear as a signatory on that letter.)

In 2000, PNAC released “Rebuilding America’s Defenses: Strategies, Forces, and Resources for a New Century,” essentially a manifesto for projection of American military force, canceling international treaties and forcing cahnge of uncooperative regimes.

No, September 11, 2001 was merely the “Pearl Harbor” the neocons had dreamed of to cause a transformation of American policy with a “catastrophic and catalyzing event.”  (Rebuilding America’s Defenses at p. 51.) http://www.newamericancentury.org/RebuildingAmericasDefenses.pdf

A little wordy..but you get the point

Lynne Cheney…Put a Leash on your DOG

When one takes their beloved dogs to the park they have to keep them on a leash..in fact..one has to pick up their crap as well. This law benefits of US all. It allows US to enjoy our parks, sidewalks, neighborhoods, etc. without having to worry about being bitten or stepping into a steaming pile of CRAP. Why then does Lynne Cheney get a free pass?

Wake up America! Can you not hear the drumbeat? Can you not hear that damn barking DOG keeping the global community awake at night? Her DOG is rabid..foaming at the mouth..baring his teeth and readying himself to attack.

Something indeed has changed since 1994 but Elder Earl, either doesn’t, or doesn’t want to see.
Those were the times, the Jews - pardon my anti-Semitism- weren’t quite running the show in the U.S.
Proof? Bush the Dad cut Israel’s aid for enlarging its Jewish settlements in the ‘teritories’ which cost him his second term. Bush the Son wasn’t taking any chances and together with Cheney declared Sharon ‘Man of Peace’.
The video is a proof that, whatever Cheney looks like, isn’t an idiot, a proposition very difficult to prove for his alleged boss.

A loyal politician says whatever his boss wants him to say.  Cheney’s integrity is absolutely nil.  I wish we could replay all the news and reports leading up to our invasion of Iraq.  Even the media promoted this propaganda by not questioning anything.  Bush’s tactics, as always, have been to degrade the skeptics calling them unpatriotic, sympathizers, etc.  Even calling opponents of his amnesty bill racists.  And the media repeats instead of reports.

Cheney might have known this video would be replayed which is why he did a Larry King a couple of weeks ago.  Now he’ll go back to his safe location and let the operatives argue on the news shows.

When are we going to learn?

Excuse me Mr. Earl

Are you one of those that really believes that Saddam Hussain had something to do with 9/11?
If not, just tell us what you mean by “the situation had changed after 911.”  It was just as stupid to attack Iraq then as it was after 9/11! And, Cheney is still the same on Cheney that he is now: a hateful, lying, warmonger, and probably a crook besides!
