Olbermann Takes On ‘A War We Just Might Win’ Author

Posted on Jul 31, 2007

Keith Olbermann doesn’t object to Michael O’Hanlon’s right to believe that the Iraq war is winnable, but the “Countdown” host isn’t about to let the war cheerleader off the hook as a “constant and consistent critic” of the Iraq debacle, as he’s been billed.

One doesn’t expect a rapist to withdraw or redeploy his weapons of aggression humanely. But the analogy is not exact, so even the Bush White House gang, and especially its successor Democrat gang in the White House could do their “withdrawal” i.e., redeployment, to Iraq’s northern and Southern borders, i.e., its oil fields, with somewhat less risk and somewhat more or less humanely.

There would be less risk, if the US asked for and funded a large U.N. force to guard Iraq’s borders to allow return of refugees and to be interposed between our forces and those of Iran and other bordering countries. Maybe then at least, refugees could return. It would be more humane if, as our troops redeploy, they escorted WILLING Iraqis to partition areas of people of the same religion or ethnicity. Others can assume the risk of returning to mixed areas and fighting or making peace among themselves. We could also help mixed marriage Iraqis to emigrate and open our own county to them or pay other countries to take them in and help establish them.

Finally, we could move the whole weak Iraqi central government out of Baghdad to an isolated, hardened U.S. base where its “independence” could be “protected” by us, so that Baghdad could be partitioned along the Tigris, with Sunnis moving from its east to west and Shia from west to east. We could give Bush’s false pride (the $1/2 billion embassy) to Sunnis moving from west to east, converting it to a hospital, orphanage and war memorial for all.

Other countries, our own, Brazil and Myanmar, have moved their capitals! France and India once had two capitals each. A dozen other countries, including Israel, South Africa and Bolivia, now have multiple capitals as a result of war and partition.

This is a terrible situation, but I think it is still better to advocate something that hopefully can make things a little less terrible than to complain endlessly, better to light a candle than to curse the darkenss.

•  Olbermann might just start reading from the PNAC website every night. They lay out their plans for the world for all to see. It is quite chilling to see that this debacle in Iraq is part of their plan for perpetual war. They also think there are too many people populating the earth. To them, Iraq is a swimming success on both counts. Every day peace is a diminishing possibility and every day lots of people die thus helpiing to depopulate the earth.”****

Dawn, thanks for bringing this up, as chilling as it is, because it’s the reality. Until more of us can make the connection, and understand what the real reasons are (and have always been) for the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq, the plan as described in the PNAC is on track for its perpetual war, and the continuing depopulation. It continues to serve their perverted needs very well.
Meantime, thanks for that complete list of the signatories as well. Saved me some keystrokes.

It does my heart good to see Keith Olbermann on prime time TV. He speaks the truth with humor and sincerity. He smelled a rat and named him: Michael O’Hanlon.

Judith Miller of the New York Times lied in her reports on Iraq pre war intelligence. She said there were weapons of mass destruction and Saddam was poised to use them against us. Dick Cheney quoted her, all the while stating that even a liberal newspaper thinks we need to invade Iraq.

Now, the Times is participating again in political deception and propaganda by printing this “report” by O’Hanlon of the Brookings Institute. Liberal?  I would venture treasonous.

The comment on this page by congressive #91473 is correct. O’Hanlon is a signatory of the Project for a New American Century. He has been called upon to writethis missive for a timely purpose. Our media controls what we hear and when we hear it. The NYTimes and Judith Miller are just as complicit in this phony war on terror as Colin Powell and Dick Cheney.

Some people make up the lie. Some people report the lie. Some people don’t bother to debunk the lie even though they know it is a lie. It’s all treasonous and genocidal. Are we going to split hairs about who has more blood on their hands?

People are dying. We are still sending soldiers off to occupy Iraq until the 30 year binding contracts to secure Iraqi oil for a few multinational corporations are signed. Over 3660 U.S. troops have died. Over 900,000 Iraqi citizens have been slaughtered. Over 1 million (of the 25 million) Iraqis have fled the country. 25 dead bodies were found in Baghdad yesterday. How can anyone but a neocon PNAC signer say that things are going well and we might just win this one?

Olbermann might just start reading from the PNAC website every night. They lay out their plans for the world for all to see. This is a win, win situation for the planners of this mess, the signatories of the PNAC: Michael O’Hanlon, Peter Beinart, Jeffrey Bergner, Daniel Blumenthal,  Max Boot, Eliot Cohen, Ivo H. Daalder, Thomas Donnelly, Michele Flournoy, Frank F. Gaffney, Jr., Reuel Marc Gerecht, Lt. Gen. Buster C. Glosson, Bruce P. Jackson, Frederick Kagan, Robert Kagan,  Craig Kennedy, Paul Kennedy, Col. Some more PNAC signatory names we all know:

Dick Cheney, Elliott Abrams, William J. Bennett, Jeb Bush, Zalmay Khalilzad, I. Lewis Libby,

Dear cyrena

Thanks for your approval of the plans for the new Middle East, considering the new facts on the ground
As observed by Mr. O’ Hanlon the only thing left to do is that we just need to check those bridges over the Jordan River otherwise we may expect to see Mr. Pollack diving in to rescue the sinking Brookings Bridge that did not get checked properly.

The OP duo of Ohanlon and Pollack two neocon/chickenhawks, who in all probability have villas next to Richard Perle’s in Southern Fance, spend afew days ensconsed in a secret part of the Green Zone as guests of the Department of Defense or is that a code name for Elliot Abrams get tv time as if they went to Mars and back to report that things are much imporved but still ” we need to cut up Iraq into 3 pieces” as suggested by some yahoo in Israel.

Lets have the UN do it. This way it will be all legal like. And we can get to build 2 if not 3 more Embassies in the ME. Guess those clowns still believe they can sucker 300 million Americans.

Re Rush Limburger’s Cuban Cigar; he and Fred “Tommy-Gun” Thompson should have guested on Johnny Carson when he campaigned against cigars on airplanes.  Another guest rightfully called them (as Bowdlerized by the Network censor),
“Pacifiers for xxx-ooo (Fans of Fellatio).”

Dear Mr. Afshar,

YOURS is the best plan yet!! We can work out the U-Haul details.

I think this would do it, especially since a full half of the Iraqi population has already been scattered.

I just read an article in the NYT yesterday, that claims that Israel is going to “LET/ALLOW” some Iraqi Palestinians to relocate to the West Bank!!

“LET” them? Let them be locked-up in the West Bank? The settlers are just going to move their own homes and belongings out of the way to make room for them, eh?

It really made me quite ill, just reading it.

Dear Mr. O’Hanlon

Yesterday I was watching your recommended partitioning of Iraq presentation on C-SPAN, as a born middle easterner from a neighboring country of Iraq I thought there is an easier and less expensive way to achieve all your recommended objectives to ultimately save Israel and US from previously proposed disastrous idea of invading Iraq by this country that you had also proposed.
Simply Instead of moving millions of Shies and Sunni Iraqis to “SHIESTAN” and “SUNISATAN” as it was in your plan yesterday a” Better Way Forward” will be to just move all the Iraqis to the current location of state of Israel and move all the Israelis including the Likud party members to Iraq and rename the newly formed country “Likudestan” and the adjacent body of water will be called The Likud Golf with its own Brookings Institution. To assure that this names will be accepted we can ask the National Geographic to immediately print the new names on all published atlases and even pass a new UN resolution with chapter seven penalties for countries that do not recognize this newly formed young countries and renamed waters.

With this proposal  Israelis will ultimately get both the OIL and the  Water that they need to continue and still have access to open sea via the Likud Golf and  we will have the control of the oil with much less military interventions and invasions of other countries and killing terrorist insurgents.

Now since Iraqis are moved to Palestine, Muslim Arab brothers from Palestine will not fight and kill Muslim Arab brothers from Iraq although we have moved them there so we will finally bring peace and calm and prosperity to the  eastern Mediterranean shores this brings the end to the sixty year war we had created in 1946 or rather the end of world war one. This may sounds a little like the birth pang speech of last year.
The icing on the cake or the big bonus for us is that Likudestan (formerly Israel) will be Iran’s next door neighbor it will be much easier to ask the Likudies to drop Nukes on Iran and save the Arabs from being embarrassed like the war of the 1980’s we don’t even have to send brother Rumsfield to supply them with WMD since the Likudes are self sufficient.

The only difficulty with this proposal which I am sure that a scholar like you will be able to easily solve is the logistics of renting so many U-Hall’s in short notice but we can contract the moving to KBR and install the Marines as the traffic cup to clear the jam that can be created in the Jordan desert highway which I am sure the scholars of the Brookings can figure out this rather simple details.

Hopefully we can all see the next scholarly planed recommendations in a nationwide presentation on major western media.

I for myself thank god for Mr. Blair’s acceptance of being the new Middle east peace envoy we could not have a better person for this post. I am sure he is the only person can facilitate this plan and Mr. Abbas will be happy that he can be now president of a nation of twenty five million plus.

With best wishes
Kooshy Afshar

Well Don, I think you’ve opened up a “can of WORMS”, but it’s as good a question as any.

You don’t think it’s a substitute for the oxycotin that he’s been chewing like candy for years?

Isn’t it great that somebody keeps these lying pieces of shit honest.Even the Admiral who will become Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who testified before congress today said that no number of troops can win in Iraq.Petraeus has said only if their is a political solution can we acheive success in Iraq. Here comes this moron just back from Iraq going on what Jim Webb correctly identified as the “dog and pony” show claiming we can win.Why these guys who are young enough to be in the military and are so sure we can win do not join up for the fight amazes me.We can win if we send more of your kids.Seems like they have all picked the George Bush mantra from Vietnam.Maybe O’Hanlon ought to start using that other chestnut from Vietnam"light at the end of tunnel”.
