Chris Matthews: Watch Your Mouth!Posted on Jun 21, 2007
Unaware that his mike was on, Chris Matthews accidentally let the S-word slip during a live taping of MSNBC’s “Hardball.” This is the second time he has used a vulgarity on air. Matthews was caught saying to producers, “We’re all reacting here, putting on s**t. We have nothing.” Matthews attempted to recover from his snafu, but the damage was done. S**t happens. Typical Republican - like the following:
Report this1) Bush calling a Times report asshole and Cheney agreeing: bigtime
2) Cheney on the floor of the Senate telling another Senator to Fuck himself.
All public human conversation has gone downhill since the Republican boyz have gotten control and have to show them selves to be real men by talking dirty.

Ah, the real shock to me is that anybody actually watches Chris Matthews!

This is a typical knee-jerk response which is due to the claims made by the holier than thou religious puritans which elected our fearless meat head leader.
Report thisDo not censor talk or language. This is who we are or who we can become. I would prefer living in a world that lives freely and speaks freely as opposed to living in a world where everyone walks around concerned and puckered over what is most appropriate about the person next to you.
MAN CREATED RELIGION FOR THE BROTHERHOOD OF MAN. (not as the means of slapping each other into compliance over the written words of some monk in a cave which some other “blessed soul” later determined that those very words should be canonized into the bible as a means of control and compliance.)Holy shit!!!!

I am less conserned with the word and more concerned what he was describing with the word “we are all reacting here, we have nothing.”

I’m with a lot of you. It’s just a word.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t have some constructive fun with it, can we?
I call on MSNBC, ABC, CNN, CBS and FOX NEWS to create a big “swear jar”, and if any of these darlings let a bobo go on the air, they have to fork out, say, 1000 bucks each time. At the end of the year proceeds go to charity. Thoughts?

I agre with you, RAE and others. Here in Oz, the word “shit” can be heard openly on TV, generally after 9 p.m., and it’s printed in newspapers. “Fuck” gets in sometimes too. Aussies DO have an aversion to the word “cunt” which is the national insult of last resort. “Bastard” (pronounced “bah-stud”) is everywhere, and is sometimes used as a term of affection. Australia also has nudity on over-the-air TV, including the government-run channels. Not gratuitously, an generally later at night.
All this naughtiness, and yet the Commonwealth does not fall into a morass of degeneracy. Meanwhile, America goes into a year-long spasm of offended morality over a flash of Janet Jackson’s nipple ring (while replaying the pixellated scene a million times.)
What’s the difference? As you’ve said, America is childish. It’s that religious overlay in the U.S. Here, it’s a secular society, so people act grown-up in matters of sex and language, instead of the pretend shock they display in the U.S.

The important thing here is not that Matthews swore, but that he accidentally acknowledges the fact that the 24 hour news model forces reporters to go on the air when they have s**t, just to fill space.

Actually guys, there is really nothing wrong with saying the word; it’s just word.
But, let someone like Matthews get a hold of some footage with Bill Clinton saying the word…HOLY SH*T! The SH*T would hit the fan! Clinton would be in a SH*T load of trouble!
Get my point?

“Isnt ANYONE IN THE USA matured beyond a GRADE FIVE level?”
Yes, actually most of us make it to at least a grade 10 level of maturity. Surely you must know that. We’ve never quite recovered from the Victorian era about 100+ years ago. That’s why we still snigger at potty talk and have cute names for our genitals and keep ignorant of the world around us.
I’m sorry, I digress…good post…keep up the good work.

Ohmigod, someone actually said the “S” word. Whatever will the children think? As for putting on sh*t and having nothing, how is that unlike most days on Hardball? The only exciting thing to watch is if and when Tweety will drool down his chin.

Oh for god’s sake, Americans…. GROW UP!
S…T is just a bloody WORD!
What in hell do so-called “adults” in America think is going to happen if a bad word hits the airwaves?
I watch a rerun of the West Wing on the CLT channel, whatever that is. Before the program begins we get a warning that the program contains “coarse language” and “parental guidance is advised.” LESS THAN 6 MINUTES LATER, we’re treated to the warning AGAIN!
What’s laughable is that should anyone actually utter a “coarse” word, IT’S BLEEPED OUT! IDIOTS…. THERE ARE NO “COARSE WORDS” TO BE HEARD.
Isn’t ANYONE IN THE USA matured beyond a GRADE FIVE level? Don’t Americans care that most other adults in this world are laughing their asses off at such juvenile behavior?
