EFP damage

One of the weapons used with devastating effect against U.S. forces in Iraq is the so-called explosively formed penetrator, which the administration has accused Iran of producing. Astonishingly, the Discovery Channel recently aired a puff piece that delightedly showed off such a bomb, complete with a demonstration of how effective the compact device was against armored military targets.

Thanks to reader Greg Bacon for the tip!

Hey greg flynn, in the military?  Better yet.. are you in Iraq in an area dominated by Efp’s?  I am/// 1-8 cav, Sadr City and I have 30 days left of a 15 month deployment,  dont speak on things you dont know about… yea sure its easy to find these things but the technology and traffic of premade efp’s as well as training on how to emplace and use them, comes from Iran.  Trust me. And honestly, those of you who have nothin to contribute to this war atleast.. and def those who have not been here, keep your mouth shut wink  Isnt there some trivial dilemma in your safe haven civilian world that you have to occupy yourself with ?  You people have no idea.. and the only reason you say anything about it is to get your word out.. when in reality, you dont care.  So hear it from me, but know its coming from all of us, you have no opinion. Scouts out

It seems that lately there are more and more TV chanels that push the new and “exciting” weapons of war on us, “The War Weary”.  Things that go booom in the night are for children or the impotent.  I for one wish we had a leader who talked about peace in our time.  War has only victims, no winners.  But then——what do I know?

So all you need for an IED along with plastic explosive is some plastic plumbing pipe, a couple of wire coat hangers and a copper ash tray. You could find these in any country in the world but we’re thinking it could only be ... Iran!

How nifty. I don’t know which is more disturbing the simplicity and likelyhood it will be come a favorite of guerilla war and government terror, or the fact that it was shown on tv by a group of child/men, delighting in getting to blow something up.

It is amazing to me the almost erotic glee this bald pate (Jeff Gannon/Guckert looking) warmonger has for the conceptual aspects of deadly weaponry. Peering through the 1” hole like a kid who has just blown up a toy with a fire cracker, this guy’s hard-on for the effectiveness of the hot burst of copper from the “formed penetrator"is—yum—freakish, if not ghoulishly lacking in any sense of what it might do to a “soft target” on the other side of the steel plate. A necro and technophile wrapped into one… Hehaw! And to think the fate of humanity is in the hands of such throwbacks, such malingerers along the evolutionary chain… I need a drink, or maybe I’ll just numb-out with the Disney Channel…

Destruction has its limits—
it’s never enough, it never completely destroys the enemy.
How about spending the same money to make friends, educate, feed, house and heal?
More lasting and effective than trying to compel obedience.
With over two million people in prison costing us twenty-five to fifty thousand per year each, the US should be looking at other options.
A “war” that cost three trillion for little lasting resolution of problems should have us scratching our heads for a better strategy.
