Limbaugh
Media Matters

During a recent radio show, Rush Limbaugh chortled over a newspaper headline that playfully asked whether John Edwards would be the first woman president. Limbaugh asked who would design the candidate’s inaugural dress, played “I Am Woman” as Edwards’ theme song and repeatedly called out to fellow bigot Ann Coulter, as if soliciting a pat on the back.

Limbaugh also wondered whether Bill Richardson, who is Hispanic, would be known as the first Jewish president or the first North Korean president.

Watch it

Media Matters:

On the March 8 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh referred to a March 8 New York Sun article, “Could [former Sen.] John Edwards [D-NC] Become the First Woman President?” to repeatedly mock Edwards as “the Breck Girl,” who is “on tap now, according to one of the nation’s largest abortion rights supporters, to become the first woman president in the United States.” As Media Matters for America has previously noted, the phrase “first woman president” was that of Sun reporter Josh Gerstein and not from any of the story’s sources. Gerstein himself, in a post on the Sun’s politics weblog, characterized the “first woman president” phrase as “just a colorful way of summarizing” the “over-the-top rhetoric” of Kate Michelman, former president of NARAL Pro-Choice America and a senior adviser to the Edwards campaign.

Limbaugh declared that for “any further John Edwards news, we will use” Helen Reddy’s “I Am Woman” and “Sisters are Doin’ It For Themselves” by the Eurhythmics and Aretha Franklin “as official update theme [songs] for the Breck Girl,” and later discussed “who would design and make Edwards’ inaugural gown.” Limbaugh asserted that Edwards “may not qualify for a Vera—ahem—Wang—ahem—model. You’re listening to this, Ann Coulter. But there are plenty of other designers out there that the Breck Girl could use to design his inaugural gown.” Right-wing pundit Ann Coulter touched off a firestorm March 2 by referring to Edwards as a “faggot” at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Discussing Gov. Bill Richardson (D-NM), Limbaugh said that “if the Breck Girl is going to be the first female president, then an actual Hispanic cannot be the first Hispanic president if he’s elected. He’s got to be something else.” Limbaugh later declared that Richardson would be “the first North Korean president” because of his “affinity for Kim Jong Il and Kim Il Sung, the little pot-bellied dictator.” Additionally, according to Limbaugh, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) “might be the first male president the Democrats have had in a while” because a “[t]esticle lockbox [has] been accumulating” recent Democratic presidential nominees.

Ok little boy hondo, you’ve been having a hissy fit long enough. Get up off the floor of your padded room, dry your bloodshot eyes and wipe off the “limbaugh” seeping from your nostrils! Try to understand that a ratio of 36 dissenting comments to one agreement (yours) against your defense of your overstuffed hero russie, should have even you starting to form an original (gasp!!...that’s a real scary word isn’t it hondo??) thought. Your infantile clamoring for attention only proves how insignificant limburger really is...NO ONE MORE INTELLIGENT THAN A SCREWDRIVER GIVES A DAMN ABOUT HIM!! It’s obviously too late to save you from rabid russ, but there might, just might, be one person out there, fresh out of “right-wing rehab”, that reads your comments praising limpburger, and will run toward the light screaming, “Oh my gawd, how could I have been so unfree-thinking!!” Also hondie baby, why do you say “liberals are dishonest”, when after reading quotes about fat-boy’s broadcast, we respond with candid intelligent opinions. Being accused by inferior pinheads like you, that we don’t have the intellectual capacity to understand the pig-boy’s humor is rather saddening, for you, not us. Number 1...HE’S NOT FUNNY!! Number 2, to communicate with you, russie and the rest of the ditto-heads, we have to dumb-down to your level. It’s not something decent people get much reward from. I’m proud of the non-replies you are getting from highly intellectual liberals who have better things to do with their lives...like laughing at you and your buddy rus limpid. Me? I guess I had enough pity for you, down there on your knees crying and begging for intercourse. And now that I’m done with you, I’ll wipe myself off, zip my pants back up and toddle off to another anti-bushy rally. I know you’ll understand why you’ll never hear from me again...you bite!!

I have been waiting patiently, and I still haven’t seen anyone respond directly to the facts that I layed out in my original comment (#57703). Limbaugh was ridiculing liberal hypocracy and dishonesty.

So far, I have seen nothing on this thread except for potty talk, personal insults, and, generally, a pretty infantile level of discussion. Is this what passes for “intelligent debate” on the left? It sounds like a bunch of second grade boys who just learned their first curse words.

Please, can just one of you “intellectual” liberals respond directly to my comment? I’m starting to lose hope of ever finding signs of intelligent life on this thread.

C’mon you old hooligan (#58106). The fact that you’re laughing out loud, means you can probably identify pretty well with ol’ Rush.  That means you probably got a lot a of anger and hate in you that ol’ Rush tickles. I hate to rain on your party, but I read someplace that harboring hate and anger every day can seriously shorten you lifespan. Anyway, Rush is obviously doing you some good. But better send him that thank you card at 65 just to be safe.

How pathetic it is that even one person believes a microscopic speck of the incoherent bullshit that a homophobic, pathetic, momma’s-boy, sissy, drug-addicted, holier-than thou, gay-bashing, under-educated, right wing pandering, piece of human garbage that is russel limbaugh. He appeals to the lowest common denominator of those barely human beings responsible for the dumbing-down of America; those pathetic individuals that have to be told when, where, what, why, and how to accomplish anything during their insignificant lives, including asking someone for permission to relieve their bowels!! Those that do, forward the contents on to russie, and he uses that for the centerpiece of his daily hate-filled diatribes directed at his cult of listeners. His audience consists of the patiently-waiting, I.Q.-challenged minority of brain-dead, subserviant, religious-conservative robots that must be spoon-fed everything their brain-washed belief system must have to even operate at a sub-par level. How wonderful it would be to speed up natural selection to it’s ultimate destination; that of purging the world of those useless followers of the beliefs espoused by David Duke, Adolf Hitler, Osama Bin Laden, Pat Robertson, Al Sharpton, Newt (now there’s a name to really get behind!!) Gingrich, and a comprehensive list of all those who believe in the same ideals; “You are crap, and we are god, and no matter what you do or say, we will always call the shots, because we learned a long time ago, we can control a nation of sheep that only votes 50% of the time!!” The most disturbing aspect of this whole deplorable situation is that you can almost visualize the brain-dead group of worthles individuals that absorb this diet of mis-information, and cheer for george shrub as he tells them that we must “stay the course, and we will pervail in Iraq, even it takes another 100 years!” Most elected officials measure their popularity by how history treats their time in office, and how many people visit their dedicated library after they die. People visitig the Shrub library will have a selection of two volumes to read and absorb. Unfortunately one of them will not be completely colored inside the lines yet!! But I digress. I want to give readers as complete a picture of the bush legacy as possible; in case there are 6 people who just emerged from a cave in New Guinea, and didn’t receive a copy of any right-wing, conservative, “I’m better-than-you” rag in the last few years!! For anyone else, you should be “willing to commit suicide in the most disgusting manner possible”, if you admit to being a shrub devotee; but you won’t, because that is the miracle of the conservative right; “we don’t care how out-of-touch our belief system is, we’re satisfied that 15% of the population is as ignorant as we are; after all we got more votes than the communist party, and that’s something that any freedom-loving brain-dead robot can hang his beliefs on!! And now for this week’s pop quiz: (Registed voters only!), Give me a dissenting opinion, if you dare! Don’t tell mne about puncuation or grammar; just defend your beliefs. I will embarass you as much as possible. Bye!!

Hondo 57703. You are a “teacher” and can no doubt testify to the sad state of our schools. Do you see the connection? I believe it was during the introduction of guest speaker President Clinton at an NAACP award dinner during his final days in office that the black woman MC slyly remarked Clinton was the US’s 1st black president because of the efforts he made on behalf of minorities. He was quite popular. When asked about it later Clinton said he considered it an honor. Limbaugh spins it to appear as though Clinton calls himself the 1st black president. The truth does not make for broadcasting excellence (or ratings).

Zero tolerance.  When Mr.Carters’ son was called the N-Word at a predominately, quality Caucasian High School, Mr.Carter took action.  Mr.Carter called 911, filed a protection order and relentlessly pursued legal consequences against both school and parents.  Simple lesson? action and severe consequences. Hondo,

There is no “humor” coming from Limbaugh - just mean spiritedness and attacks relayed with sadistic glee.  I recall in some past thread you mentioned that you are a Christian.  What would Jesus’ take be on the efforts afoot to crush the poor and middle class, the politics of vitriol and character assasination, lying daily to billions of people to advance the cause of greed and material wealth, divide and rule politics that are designed to make the citizenry hate they neighbor, torturing, and murdering hundreds of thousands of people?  Oh yea, I forgot, Jesus’s whole message focused on the supression of abortion rights, and hating “faggots” - Love had nothing to do with it. I guess as long as you go to church on Sundays and can put idol on display in the mall in December, all’s well in heaven and on earth! I’m sure Jesus was actually tight with Roman imperialist rulers, and was completely subservient to the orthodoxy of church without question as well.  The level of hypocrisy coming from these charlatans makes me wanna vommit.

Limbaugh and Coulter are demagogues of the first rank. The hatred and venom they spew is reminisicent of the tactics of the Nazi Brown Shirts or the Black shirted Fascisti of Mussolini. In both latter instances, these people romanticized masculinity and virility, demeaned opponents as feminine and weak. All of this is reflective of the authoritarian pattern set in motion by the Conservative Republican regime of Bush and Cheney. these people have no respect for the democratic process, the rule of law, the Constituional system of checks and balances. They scoff at Congress. They bully and intimidate the press. The claim unlimited power for the president under the rubric of Commande in Chief. They stack the judiicary with ideologues. They are attempting to stack all US attorney positions with compliant party ideologues. They have centralized presidential control over the federal agencies. They are closet authoritarians. It is too bad, people like Limbaugh, Coulter and throw in Hannity and O Reilly to boot along with this legion of right wing tv and radio talk show hosts---could not meet the fate of Lonesome Rhodes in the movie The Face In the Crowd. (Unlike pseudo-cons who lie to get us into genocidal wars for oil and call deregulating corporate polluters the “clean air act”.....
I don’t know why I’m bothering talking to you-maybe just your particular brand of empty headed regurgitation of talking points offends me more than most.)

Bill Clinton, a rich white man, was called “America’s First Black President.”

(and you say liberals don’t have the capacity to understand Mush brain’s Humor-ROTFLMAO.)

This, in spite of the fact that he didn’t accomplish doodley-squat for blacks compared to George Bush.

(97% of the black population of the US disagree with you. You’re an idiot.)

Now we have John Edwards being called a possible “First Woman President” by a liberal newspaper columnist

(There are genuine liberals
with newspaper columns ? Not very many and I suspect not this one. Did you swallow another Limbaugh camel/talkingpoint/lie ?)

and a liberal pro-infanticide feminist.

(A liberal feminist-oooo-run and hide. Pro-infanticide ? Do you have any idea how stupid you sound ?)

Memo to liberals---Edwards is a man (kind of).

(Bite me wimp.)

Clinton is white.

(And winger fools have a sense of humor-not.)

The sky is blue. The grass is green.

(Childish-like most Oxycontin man listeners.)

If you don’t have the intellectual capacity to understand Limbaugh’s humor (which isn’t that advanced, come to think of it) then just stick with Sponge Bob cartoons.

Apparently, I stepped over the line with comments and a question I offered. I posted on this topic, and my post never got here. Let me restate my supposition, and see if this gets through.

Is Rush Limbaugh a self-loathing, closeted gay man?

If he is, he wouldn’t be the first Republican far right extremist who was. This to me, is not a controversial question, it is quite reasonable in the face of who this man is, who he appears to hate, who he attacks on a regular basis, and historical precedent.

Could this three time loser in the field of marriage, who is once again single, and remains childless, be a self-hating gay man? If he were to find another woman to marry, and make her Mrs. Limbaugh IV, would that prove he is not? Or is it possible that marriage is only a means to an end, a tool to hide that which he fears most being revealed? And if it were proven, how would his ditto-heads react?

Considering the whithering hatred he offers every day on his radio show, it is a virtual certainty that this is for him, along with being a calculated career decision, a purging of inner demons. In my experience (and I am certainly not a psychiatrist) most people who reveal this much hatred toward others, are usually consumed with hatred for themselves and the life they desperately attempt to hide.

It’s certainly possible that this supposition is wrong, but considering the nature of this man’s hate filled, and sarcasm-soaked attack methods, I think it at least fair to ask the question.

In the end, I see him as a similarly hateful individual to Karl Rove, in that in their youth, they were not exactly the captain of the team types. Clearly, they were more the outcasts who couldn’t get a date to save their lives. And being the smart guys they were, took it very personally, and have been exacting one form of revenge or another, ever since. It’s fairly well established now that the “free love” attitudes of the 60’s have driven a lot of the extremism of the 80’s to the present. And this extremism doesn’t just rise from the vacuum...there are reasons. Judge for yourself, don’t go by me.

p.s. Oh, and by the way, who in their right (no pun) mind listens to a serial divorcee giving advice on family values? Who really believes that it’s gay marriage that threatens marriage? Divorce, and especially serial divorce, are the things that truly threaten the “sanctity” of the marriage institution. Serial divorce shows nothing but contempt for the institution.

Whenever the GOP cannot find effective criticism, they resort to what they perceive as funny and put it out, via media, for the masses of brain-dead Republicans who repeat it ad nauseum until everyone swears it is true. They are done- and Limbaugh and Coulter are becoming too controversial for even them. I couldnt be happier. John Edwards is so far above this form of slander and I love that they are afraid of him. You kind of have to really feel for Rush.

In the past few years he’s had to defend Bush and his vicious band of neocons as they wage war against a soverign nation that had nothing to do with the so-called “War on Terror.” Next he had to make light of torture in Abu Grabe, even printing up T-shirts,which mocked the outrage of Americans at home. Limbaugh has had to defend the deterioation of our civil rights. The so-called Patriots Act, which we have read about in recent days, was ripe for abuse, but Rush still says,"It’s worth it.”

There are other examples, such as the recent Walter Reed fiasco. Rush wants to downplay the disclosure as politically inspired, taking the side of this administration over the well being of our wounded troops.F

Finally Rush has given talking points that defends sending troops back into Iraq for second and third tours, many without proper equipment.

So, take it easy on the ol’ boy. He’s been through three marriages, just barely beat a drag rap, and is now in the unenviable position of having to call his fellow Americans traitors if they speak out against this vile war.

If Limbaugh had a conscience he would be in real trouble.

Yet I understand that many Americans prescribe to his programmed ideology, which is a shame because it seems as if some people subscribe to his blow-hard attitude as “truth”, when in fact what he projects upon the radio waves is not journalism at all, but opinion. Like an Op Ed in your newspaper. That’s all it is that he puts forth, someone who expresses an opinion piece.

Limbaugh was ridiculing the liberal habit of distorting reality to suit their cockamamie agenda. Bill Clinton, a rich white man, was called “America’s First Black President.” This, in spite of the fact that he didn’t accomplish doodley-squat for blacks compared to George Bush.

Now we have John Edwards being called a possible “First Woman President” by a liberal newspaper columnist and a liberal pro-infanticide feminist.

Memo to liberals---Edwards is a man (kind of). Clinton is white. The sky is blue. The grass is green. If you don’t have the intellectual capacity to understand Limbaugh’s humor (which isn’t that advanced, come to think of it) then just stick with Sponge Bob cartoons.
