Coulter Calls Edwards a ‘Faggot’ at Right-Wing Meeting

ENTER_ALT_TEXT

Ann Coulter tried out some reliably juvenile new material, complete with hate speech, on her far-right audience at Friday’s Conservative Political Action Conference.  The conservative über-pundit drew gasps and applause as she smugly cracked, “I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word faggot, so I ... can’t really talk about Edwards.”

Coulter’s homophobic tear didn’t start here, unfortunately; she has lobbed similar taunts at Al Gore and the Clintons in recent months.

Jeff writes: “accusations alone is just more preaching to the choir !!”

I think this just about sums it up:  “Although it is not true that all conservatives are stupid, it is true that most stupid people are conservative.”

Ann Coulter was horribly wrong to use such hateful language in her speech and I condemn her conduct. Although I agree with many of the things that Coulter says, I am appalled by her remarks at CPAC 2007 and I repudiate those remarks.

Now that I, a Christian conservative, have condemned Coulter’s comments, I would like to see some of you liberals condemn the following:

“I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease."---Julianne Malveaux, liberal radio and newspaper “journalist” speaking about Clarence Thomas

“In Delaware, the largest growth of population is Indian-Americans, moving from India. You cannot go to a 7/11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking."---Joe Biden

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”---Joe Biden, again

“He ran a gas station down in St. Louis for a couple of years."---Hillary Clinton, introducing a quote from Mahatma Gandhi

There are thousands of other racist/bigoted comments and quotes from liberal Democrats, but I’ll stop there. And I won’t hold my breath waiting for liberal apologies. Liberals are notoriously hypocritical on this issue.

my point is Dem’s are fake !! and stand for nothing but there own power !!!

yet on the next story they are giving Iran advise on how to defeat the USA in a future war ???

my point is written all over theses posts, try to read them with an open logical mind, void of emotion and it will start to make sense !!!

as far as this story goes my point is you guys really hate Coulter because you are intolerant, and that Edwards in my view? is a fake who panders to the emotional illogical left !!!

Ann Coulter provides a valuable service in that she exposes the mindset of the Bush Gang. Of course I totally disagree with her, but I’d rather hear what these people really think.
I want to thank john nettleton for that link to the peacetakescourage video. I watched it. It is incredibly sad and powerful. It should be shown widely to give an example of the disconnect between life in the USA and Iraq.

Jeff,
What’s your point?  There is no need to give liberals a sermon about politicians, however, you might want to take a closer look at Republicans and their criminal behavior:  Scooter Libby convicted on felony charges of obstruction of justice, perjury and making false statements in the CIA leak investigation; Jack Abramoff convicted and is in prison; Tom DeLay, former GOP House Majority resigned from Congress after two of his former senior aids copped pleas; Senate Republican Majority Leader Bill Frist was under investigation for possible securities violations regarding his stock in the company his family founded; Ohio Republican, Tom Noe indicted on 2/13/06 on 53 counts, including forgery, money laundering, and theft, related to Coingate; Republican Congressman Randall (Duke) Cunningham sentenced to eight years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to federal charges of accepting over two million dollars in bribes from a defense contractor while we were at war; Presidential Domestic Policy Advisor and self proclaimed Christian conservative Claude Allen arrested for shoplifting over $5,000 worth of items from Target stores; in August of 2005 Republican Gov. Bob Taft pleaded no contest to four criminal ethics charges for his failure to disclose golf outings paid for by lobbyists, as well as undisclosed gifts worth $5,800, he was fined $4,000 plus court costs; Department of Homeland Security Assistant Press Secretary Brian Doyle facing arrest on 23 charges related to soliciting sex from a 14 year-old minor in a police sting operation; Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH) accepting bribes from Jack Abramoff and Michael Scanlon; James Tobin, the former New England Regional Political Director for the Republican National Committee, was found guilty December 15th, 2005 of two counts: Conspiracy to commit the commission of interstate telephone harassment and Aiding and abetting the commission of interstate telephone harassment. He was acquitted of a third count, Conspiracy against voters’ rights; Bob Livingston (R-Louisiana) was about to replace Newt Gingrich as Speaker of the House until he resigned in disgrace when it was revealed that he admitted to had been involved in several adulterous affairs; Republican Chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Kenneth Tomlinson, investigated for violating the Public Broadcasting Act, resigned after the results of the investigation were published; Lawrence Novak, Vice Chair, state GOP, Arrested by FBI for drug money laundering; etc…

To Jeff,

So you say Edwards is a wimp for speaking about poverty because YOU KNOW he is lying.  Okay, well, it is an absolute fact that the republican congress and the bush admin has gone back on every promise they have given. The executive branch has lied countless times to the American people. They have undermined our Constitution. Is there anything worse??  All with the support of neo-conservatives like you.  If you can’t face this, YOU are in denial and that makes you a wimp.  If you think this is the price we must pay to be safe, YOU are a scared little man, which also makes you a wimp.  So either way, Jeffy, you are the wimp here, so deal with it and don’t come back till you have.

There is and should be free speech, But indignation of offended people is not silencing her by force, and not force of government.

Glenn Beck is now defending her on the grounds she has a right to say such things as “free political speech”. And “shouldn’t be torched for it”...his words. No Beck we should slap her on the back and say “You’re doin’ a great job Annie!”??

I agree she has the legal right, as does the KKK and many other disgusting ,despicable groups. But don’t dare think decent people will remain silent and not express outrage at such vile talk. She has no shame, perhaps it’s a flaw in the up bringing? Lack of soap? Recall her comments to the 9/11 widows who she opposed politically?

Sorry, Mr. Beck if what you think passes as political discourse, is not very popular with most decent human beings. It must feel awfully oppressive to keep vile views hidden under slimy rocks for fear of bring such crap forward, it might bring on loud and clear condemnation. But do feel free, lets see exactly what you folks are all about huh?

Godless? how about Shameless?

I might point out to you haters and bigots. That gay people come from families and have friends, so put that into your cynical calculations when you think your only praying on 10% of the population for your hateful, sick political purposes.

Ann should practice what see preaches to college girls in her lectures around the country: Get married, settle down, lead a good Republican Christian life, and have plenty of kids to ‘sacrifice’ for the GOP’s future wars of profit.

In Ann’s case, I hope she marries a mean drunk NASCAR Dad and is forced to live in a 25” X 10” trailer with seven screaming brats, no money and no way out, like many of the people to whom she condescends with flattery in her books.

Of course, that will never happen to one of the GOP’s biggest hypocrites; she’ll never stray far from her home in New York and her five-martini lunches with Matt Drudge who, BTW, is gay.

“somewhere in America a 8 yr old girl is going to bed hungry” !!! come on, that speech is 5 yrs old !!! does it still make you cry???”

Jeff,
Your mean-spirited response and your wretched attempt at humor, only discredits any comments that you have posted.

Jeff, does not give one iota about the right or left; he is only concerned with spouting vindictive and bogus statements in a cathartic attempt at resolving his own inadequacies.

BTW, an 8 year old going to bed hungry in the U.S. is a DISGRACE--and that story is never “old,” poverty, exploitation and the destruction of the working-class to fatten the pockets of billionaires is never “old”—-and isn’t it a shame that 5 years ago we chose to bomb Iraq rather than eradicate poverty.

What is truly incongruous, is that if we had only addressed the issue of world poverty 5 years ago, with the same fervor that we apply to militarism—-we would be far more successful in ending the war on terror.

Peace, ending poverty, giving justice to those who are vulnerable and weak does not make one a wimp—-but, living a life of deceit, and apathy by knowingly neglecting humanity; will never make Jeff a man.

In keeping with the never-ending hypocracy rampant thruout the right wing cheerleaders of this miserable abministration, where usually they are doing exactly what they accuse others of or worse, I think its high time an investigation take place to determine once and for all whether Ann Coulter used to be a man. Is it only me, or does it appear as plain as day that she has a rather protruding adam’s apple? Rest assured that Fox is still writing her and many other preachers of hate “handsome” paychecks. But isn’t it time to rip away this charade and expose Coulter for who he/she really is ? He / She, along with Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, and the rest of the preachers of hate are doing exactly what Fox wants, trying hard to keep any balanced information away from the people. Shouldn’t any network that purposely tells lies, for purely political reasons of swaying opinion rather then telling the truth be held liable in some fashion ? Fox has been an integral part of the disinformation campaign undertook with the blessing and at the direction of the GOP. Goebbels would be very proud. If ever there was a time to reinstate the fairness doctrine in broadcasting, haven’t these last 6 years provided an example of the need to change from what has become mindless info-tainment in our news and return to an instituion that helps to educate the people so they hopefully have the tools to make a somewhat educated choice when voting. While we are dropping bombs in atleast three corners of the world, in our name, we are inundated by the never ending news of Anna Nicole Smith and Brittany Spears…

Exposure to Ann Coulter’s irresponsible attacks, often based on false claims and distortion, must be countered with facts and data—not silence.  Perhaps more dangerous is the temptation to dismiss her attacks as so absurd that no one will pay attention.  In fact, people are paying attention, which is why the Center for the Advancement of Women feels it is imperative to set the record straight.

STOP giving her so much friggin attention!
She is NOT WORTH IT. With all the BS she spouts about people and issues where she obviously does not have a clue, makes me wonder what she thinks of herself? she must not think very highly of even herself. She is definitley not worth listening to.

The pathetic Ann Coulter’s been fairly quiet since the November 2006 election, as her audience shrinks along with Bush’s popularity and the nation rejects the failed neocon ideology. She can still draw a crowd, but the crowds are smaller and less enthusiastic. Like Britney Spears, she is now reduced to staging increasingly outrageous publicity stunts to spark up her dying career and sell her remaindered books.

What’s she going to do next to attract headlines? Maybe she’ll shave her head and go into rehab for using the ‘N’ word to describe Barack Obama.

Will Fox News chuckle about her ‘outrageous’ behavior then, I wonder—and will NBC welcome her on The Today Show to trade quips with Matt Lauer?

BTW, to Terry Sloth: Incredibly, she thinks Dick Cheney is one sexy hunk o’ man; maybe Deadeye Dick will invite her hunting sometime.

Ann’s hatred has established itself to the extent it seems to be ineradicable. She seems to seek, often with the greatest ingenuity (help from the media), occasion for offence, and finds a profound satisfaction in the nursing of resentment and the search for reprisals and revenge.

Once she has used up her surplus of mental energy (after expending most crawling from under a rock) to stand before a camera, she has none left to discipline that horrible thing she may refer to as a...mouth?

Can anyone do better than Greg Palast because here’s what he wrote:

“Anne Coulter says we’re “Godless” — we “liberals.” And by “liberals,”
she means anyone who wants to keep the government out of our
underpants, out of Iraq, and out of the business of helping Big Business
shoplift America.

It’s time someone took on the blonde bully.

Anne, I realize yesterday was special day for you, releasing your
book on June 6 — 06-06-06.

Going through it, I must, admit, is heavy going:  ‘Godless’ is a 300-page
brick of solid meanness and pin-head hatreds packaged like a fashion
magazine:  Big Brother wears Prada.

You accuse those who don’t sign on to your list of prejudices as the
Lord’s enemies.  That’s not original, Anne:  the Taliban thought of it
before you and they too were partial to dressing in black.

You want to talk about Godless?  OK, let’s go:

Would the Lord lie us into a war?

Would the Lord let thousands drown in New Orleans while chilling at a
golf resort?

Would the Lord have removed tens of thousands of Black soldiers from
the voter rolls as the Republican Party did in 2004?

You talk about being “Christian” — but with all your zeal to fire up electric
chairs and Abrams tanks, you sound more like a Roman.

I suggest this, Anne:  let’s debate.  Set the time, set the place, and I’ll be
there.  Nose to nose, my facts versus your fanaticism.

But I know you don’t have the guts to do anything but lob idiocies from
your electronic Fox-hole.

Your new book is called, “Godless.” Your autobiography should be
called, “Gutless.” “

May as well add a comment. She gets airtime, and people get upset, and that’s appropriate considering her natural tendency toward demented hyperbole, and slander. She is smart, but she also seems to have a healthy dose of stupid thrown in for good measure. Doesn’t hurt to be mean as a badger either, for what she does...which is a hard-line right wing extremist hitwoman. When she’s tossing perverted invectives, make sure to look around to see who she’s covering for.

I heard her once say that liberals don’t enjoy sex...not SOME liberals, all liberals (not sure exactly how many millions of people are in that category, but it’s a fairly large number). It was rather funny hearing anyone say something so patently stupid, but she said it, I heard it. And, as I recall, she continued on regarding the “fact” that no one outside of wedlock could “enjoy” sex, because it’s a sin. Good to hear these things from an expert.

I have a question for her. What is it like being a 45 year old virgin? Guess it makes you kinda bitchy, huh? She has never been married, and being the devout catholic princess she appears to be, she most certainly wouldn’t have engaged in pre-marital sex...and god forbid, if she did, orgasm would not be involved, because no one who’s unmarried can enjoy sex! Thus, by her own admission, she has either never enjoyed sex (unless of course, it involved electrical appliances) or simply has never had sex (her sock monkey might disagree). I’m thinking that could explain a lot about her charming personality.

She’s one of the few women I can honestly say is a meat puppet. Sick and twisted really doesn’t cover it, but that’s about all there is to say in regard to this anorexic blonde Medusa.

Many of the comments are missing the point about Anne Coulter’s faggot statement at CPAC.  She was using a time honored slur tactic that is about “planting the seed” as in John Edwards=Faggot.  Mr Edwards is about to be “faggot-boated” unless he stands up and fights her head-on.  She should be sued for defamation of character for say 35 million dollars by a team of ruthless Edwards lawyers who will back that bitch-bully up against the wall and make it clear to her that JE isn’t going to tolerate her setting him up for a disaster.  As a homosexual I can assure you that if someone implied, in the public arena, that I was a “breeder” they would most certainly be hearing from my attorney.  She should also be sued by the ACLU for another 35 million for hate speech. There are laws regarding defamation of character and hate speech for good reason and this seems like a good case to see if they have any teeth.  Ann Coulter does.  Long, sharp venomous ones. Being that John Edwards is from the south I hope he knows keeps a snakebite kit handy.

CPAC’s membership includes many of the same people who attacked John Edwards over past comments made by bloggers now on the Edwards staff, yet they applaud Ann Coulter. Coulter’s “faggot” comment was made following referring to people of Arab descent as “Ragheads” the previous year at the same conservative conference.

This is not only hypocrisy on CPAC’s part, the latest Coulter comment frames them as ‘homophobic’. It will be interesting to observe the conservative response. I’m sure Coulter will be back on CPAC’s podium once again next year.

I for one hope Ann Coulter is invited back by CPAC, the woman does such a masterful job of derailing their message!

Now I ready many and may have posted some, but while I did think some were way over the top, why would that be different from what has come from most of the neocon talking heads? Her site is supposed to be about opposition to criminality in the current government and lack of responsibility. She deleted most of the comments on her web site to gain respect from the far right, which she isn’t going to get anyway. Interesting.

I wonder, if Ms Coulter was not a relatively attractive blonde woman, would the media establishment be all over this? Imagine if a white man, with pock-marked complexion, a deep southern twang, suspenders, a pot-belly, and yellowed teeth, stood before a conference and pontificated, “I was going to have a few comments on that other presidential candidate, Mr Obama, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word “n*gger”.

Intolerance of any kind, be it homophobia, racism, sectarian, or otherwise, should not be tolerated.

This incident speaks to the hypocrisy of American politics when Edwards himself fired bloggers from his campaign for posting comments which many viewed as “hate speech”; however, the some crusaders on the right who called for their firing have always been unwilling to denounce Coulter for her unrelenting bigotry. Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, John Gibson, Bill Donahue, and several other right-wing pundits are all given a free pass by Republicans to shamelessly spew their xenophobia, while liberals like Senator Biden are immediately denounced and forced to apologize by their own party members for remarks which would appear tame coming out of Coulter’s mouth.
