Al Franken for Senate

Longtime comedian and “Air America” host Al Franken has made it official: He’s running for the Senate in 2008. In this video he tells Minnesotans they have a right to be skeptical of his candidacy.

Al knows the difference between a Sunni and a Shia, that alone makes him more qualified than 2/3 of current congresspeople.

GO AL!!

One thing you can count on:  Rush Limbaugh (who flunked every subject in his first year at Southeast Missouri State College and never returned to school; and who had to have ghost writers for his two books; and who has been thrice divorced and childless) will ridicule Harvard graduate Al Franken, who actually wrote his own books, and has been faithful to his one wife of many years, as a grinning, inconsequential, “failed” comedian of no intellectual heft or moral fiber.  In other words, expect the “Swift Boat Veteran” attack to commence soon.

Franken, you have been a hero of mine for years and years.  Your contributions on Air America, your insight into what is actually happening, your giving another voice to people who know what is going on is remarkable.  I’m thinking of moving to MN just so I can vote for you.  Never has there been a better truth teller and a smarter, more caring person than you.  Your contributions to our troops via your untiring visits through the USO deserve a chestful of medals.

Here’s a chance to see if Minnesotans get it.

Since politicians never listen to anybody except other politicians, this may be a chance for somebody to get through to them.

Thanks Al, can’t wait to see you hammer Fox News into the ground and yank their FCC, “license to lie”.

We love you, Al Franken! Go get ‘em! I’m rooting for you all the way…wish I lived in Minnesota so I could vote for you! Your speech was excellent.
p.s. Don’t ride in any small planes.

Among the reasons that I like Al Franken is the fact that he’s tough.  More than most, he’ll suffer fools ungladly.
That’s just fine with me.
We’ve had years of “conciliation,” and they’ve led us to filibusters by the likes of Byrd and Warner and to the marginalization of decent people who have been pushed to the sidelines, even as their kids go off to war while their jobs are decimated.
Let someone else make nice, Al. I know that you don’t need to be reminded of how the Republicans spun even Paul Wellstone’s funeral.
Our nation needs, not so much a happy warrior, as a brave, funny one.  A guy who is unafraid to surf the ironies, contradictions, and frauds that are outright hilarious if only for their sheer collective departure from reality.
Speak the truth to Norm Coleman; be hilarious.  Don’t hold back a microsecond.  All the Best.
