Sen. Hagel Dismantles LiebermanPosted on Jan 14, 2007
You have to hand it to Joe Lieberman. Rattling off one stale lie and misdirection after another, as he did this Sunday on “Meet the Press,” while maintaining a straight face could not have been easy. Luckily Chuck Hagel was on hand to refute Lieberman’s tired propaganda. Advertisement Elsewhere: . CommentsAre you a Truthdig member yet? Login now, or register with Truthdig. Add Your Comment

I think the dems need to seriously think about trading old joe for a hagel or a snow. The man clearly is a DINO—and he undermines the democratic agenda.

Mr. Scheer:
When did you become the front man for the anti-semitic anti-Israel movement?
We are not talking about legit criticism of Israel, but the movement to DESTROY Isreal.
If that happens, another 5 million Jews will be slaughtered.
I’m no fan of Joe Lieberman—but why does Hegel’s attack on Lieberman turn into a series of polemics on why Israel shouldn’t exist, and, more frighteningly, this fantasy that there is evil secret conspiracy to help Israel rule America, so that America can destroy herself in the Middle East, solely to further (short term) Israeli interests?
Yet you continue to coddle and allow these anti-semites to post. We’re not talking about legit criticism, like Jimmy Carter is making—we are talking about the constant stream of abuse and calls for Israel’s destruction—is if that would fix ANYTHING in the Middle East.

Lieberman, like all the neocons, is interested in doing what he believes is in the best interests of Israel. But even the Accountant General of Israel says Israel is the most corrupt country in the Western World. ( see Haaretz, 1/15/07 for his statement).

How do these people become leaders of our nation?

Against most of the world’s advise, our country offensively invaded a sovereign country. Now some of our politicians are crying that the Iraqis will not take on the responsibility of getting their country in order. Well WE destroyed the country with shock and awe. Our leaders who smuggly lead our country into this war now need to admit it was wrong to start with and bring our soldiers home. If that is loosing, so be it. We need to finance their recovery no matter the cost. And we need to appologize to Iraq and the world for what we have done. The U.S. deserves defeat. We are at war with a country that WE attacked (shock and awe?). Our soldiers voluntarily joined the military to DEFEND this country, not to OFFENSIVELY invade another country. Impeach those who are responsible and try them for war crimes. If I remember correctly, Congress gave the desision to the President to invade Iraq if it was deamed necessary for the defense of our country. This President did not wait for the weapons inspectors to finish their job before unleashing shock and awe. We have treated that country of Iraq shabbily. It is time to bring our soldiers home. NOW! Just read what his (GWB) Harvard professor had to say about him. He has not changed. How could the people of the United States have voted this man into office….twice.

Let’s not forget people, before you allow yourselves to be blinded by hatred as well:
People are people all over the world. It’s not in Israel’s best interest to be in a constant state of war either.
Lieberman is not speaking with the US’s best interests at heart, nor is he speaking with Israel’s best interests at heart.
What he is doing is speaking with the military industrial complex’s best interests at heart, and in the meantime, he’s giving the war mongers a nice reach around. They have such people in all the countries of the western world. Bombs and guns are big business in Israel too.

Joe Liberman supports the war in Iraq because he believes that it continues Israel’s dominance as a mdddle east superpower. As long as muslims are killing muslims, and that killing is precipitated by the United States, that’s less muslims for the Jews{Israel}have to kill and someone other than Israel can take the heat for the system of Aparthied the Israelis have put in place against the Palestanians. Joe Lieberman’s interest doesn’t lie the with United States as a American, but rather as a Jew who supports Israel. There are thousands of American Jewish men who volunteer to go to Israel and join the Israeli Army, yet refused to serve America’s calling for troops. Tim Russert needs to ask Joe Lieberman which countries interest he supports America or Israel.

Senator Hagel has been warning about the dangers of the Iraq war since late 2002 (prior to the invasion). Sadly, up until lately very few in the Republican party have listened to him.

Hello Connecticut - time to recall your Senator. In some nations of the world the chicken-hawk is an endangered species - in America it is thriving - especially in and around the White House.
Report thisIt’s just Joe Lieberman acting the part of the organ grinder’s monkey once again. Pitiful.

Joe says Iraq attacked us on 9/11. Time for a medical check up Joe. Lieberman moves into unchartered waters. Great fiction has not yet created his persona. Iago pales next to our Joe.

I would suggest the Senator Hagel and the rest of those opposed to stopping the Muslim terrorist pestilence, call for a vote to cut funding for the the military or just shut up. I keep hearing about a mandate received from the people to change the War in Iraq, so now do it. No hearings, no non-binding anything, just end it for Pete’s sake and assume some responsibility instead of shooting of your mouths any longer!

I do not understand how Joe Lieberman rates any acknowlegement on any News show. I am a southern Democrat (Blue Dog}. Joe Leiberman is a mealy mouth, kiss-ass who will do anything to stay in the limelight to draw attention to himself, just like Bush his ego and greed is his mantra. He thinks he too important to put himself on the front line with the troops.

Taking offense at Liebermann’s reference to his grandchildren, Hagel points out that “we all have grandchildren” (or children or loved ones or whatever), and Lieberman “doesn’t have a market on that”. The senator from Israel was too polite to explain that his own grandchildren are Chosen, while Hagel’s simply are not.

Watching Lieberman on Meet the Press was nothing less than painful. I can’t even find words to describe how I felt when this man sat, indeed, with a straight face and peddled such tripe. So calm, calling for war not diplomacy to promote peace in the Middle East…in whose interest??
Report thisThe people of Connecticut hopefully will question where Lieberman’s interests lie….I suppose we should all help Israel to promote more war in the Middle East..for surely who would benefit from further U.S.intervention at this time…....not the U.S…. Our time will come soon enough to deal with Iran..hopefully not before we get a change of President. There can be no other rationale for his thoughts..surely the people of Connecticut like this man…other politicos like this man…but his statements on Meet the Press exposed his intent for more war. .not in our best interest.

Connecticut voters must be very proud of their favorite son. A total loser to be sure. I don’t understand how this man can look himself in the mirror. Everything that comes out of his mouth is nothing but neocon propaganda. This guy has to be in the Israeli Lobbys hip pocket, plain and simple. His aligence is to Israel not to America. He has lost all of whatever credibility he had, as far as I’m concerned. I am ashamed that he has chosen to side with the very people that are trying to destroy our Constitution. He probabily sold out along time ago. It’s just coming to light. He’s good, you got to give him that.
