Saddam and Osama

This “Saturday Night Live” parody of Middle Eastern children’s television nails the cultural disconnect at the heart of America’s adventure in Iraq. Don’t miss the brilliant satirical commercials in this episode of “Saddam and Osama.”

The picture in and by itself reminds me of the beautiful shots of Bush and the Saudi Royals, kissing and walking hand in hand.
Also the sickko McCain hugging and kissing Bush.
What is all this macho lovemaking taking place in the republican party????
You have to wonder which part of America is being given away every time Bush meets with dignitaries from other countries.

This is, of course, a parody.  But what exactly is real Arabic TV like, whether for adults or chidren.  Few Americans, except those of Mideast extraction, have any knowledge of Arabic.  The MEMRI.org site provides some lurid glimpses, but how to tell whether they are representative?  It would be nice if the government or a charitable foundation funded a simultaneous transaction of some of the Arabic language stations with largest viewership.  This might raise our awareness of public opinion in that part of the world and lessen our reliance on pundits like Thomas Friedman or Bernard Lewis, who pretend to tell us all we need to know.
