Weekly Video RoundupPosted on Dec 22, 2006
In this week’s edition of Truthdig-flavored videos, Jon Stewart disassembles Iraq war cheerleader Bill Kristol, Colin Powell tears down John McCain’s “troop surge” arguments, and a Va. congressman spouts off some head-scratching anti-Muslim remarks.
God forbid that the first Muslim congressman, Keith Ellison (below), should be allowed to put his hand on a Quran when he’s sworn in without the likes of Virginia’s Rep. Virgil Goode summoning his xenophobic nonsense: “… if American citizens don’t wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration, there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Quran.” Another Virgil Goode gem: “As long as I have the honor and privilege of representing the citizens of the 5th District of Virginia, there’s not gonna be anything about the Quran on the wall of my office.”
No. 2: Stewart Dismantles Kristol Weekly Standard Editor Bill Kristol stopped by “The Daily Show” for a friendly chat about all of Bush’s wonderful achievements in Iraq and the war on terror. Whoops! Stewart took Kristol apart, swatting down one exhausted talking point after another as it flew across the desk.
No. 3: A Guide to Net Neutrality If you’ve been struggling to wrap your head around the hugely important issue of net neutrality, check out this excellent primer from the coalition SavetheInternet.com. Watch it:
No. 4: Colin Powell Deflates McCain’s Iraq Strategy Colin Powell, who’s been on something of a credibility campaign since that vaudevillian performance at the United Nations, took John McCain’s “troop surge” Iraq strategy to task on Sunday, Dec. 17: “Let’s be clear about something else ... that gets a little confusing. There are really no additional troops.”

Cogent video! Refreshing for a cold wintery Saturday morning. Stewart hit upon something very quickly I think worthy of repeating - Kristol and his gang do see our world from Jupiter, and the “neo-conservatives” today ARE the “neo-liberal” whiz-kids of post-WWII yesteryear. They’ve just gotten old! When we as a nation quit the empire game and work for international law and order as a partner with other nations of the world we will begin to win the “war on terror.” Kristol and his gang can’t see that from Jupiter. -Kevo
